{"title":"[Reproduction of Bothrops moojeni Hoge in captivity].","authors":"P Leloup","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

It is stated that there are sufficient different morphological characteristics in order to distinguish the sexes with a certain practice, but that each of these characteristics by itself does not alone represent a completely valid criterium. These observations have shown in the periods of reproduction a chifting of six months after six years of captivity. Then the various phases of sexual behaviour are related: the male-fight, the courtship, the conquest of the partner by sexual display and finally the copulation. It is established moreover that the period between the copulation and parturition does not necessarily constitute the duration of gestation, which seems in fact shorter because of retarded fertilizations. However, there is quite a constant average of a period of gestation of 200 days. There follows a complete inventory of the 29 copulations and 67 layings that were observed.
","PeriodicalId":75428,"journal":{"name":"Acta zoologica et pathologica Antverpiensia","volume":" 62","pages":"173-201"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1975-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"12414686","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

[Development of the gonads and gonaducts in the polypterids (Pisces)]. [多倍体(双鱼座)性腺和性腺的发育]。

{"title":"[Development of the gonads and gonaducts in the polypterids (Pisces)].","authors":"W M De Smet","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

No study of the development of the gonads and gonoducts in Polypterus has ever been made in a more or less complete way. The present study does not fill up this gap, but repairs several lacks of knowledge, by putting clear a few items that may contribute to a better understanding of this development. In larvae between 5,5 mm and 9,6 mm the primary gonocytes appear under the pronephric ducts in the anterior region of the opisthonephros. A genital crest is foreshadowed there; one of its characteristics is a cubial epithelium. The latter does not have any relation with peritoneal channels and it does not contribute to the formation of gonocytes. In the following stages the gonocytes get very numerous because of cellular multiplication. They cause a local transformation of the genital crest into a genital fold; when the number of gonocytes has increased very much, a part of the fold gets transformated into a gonad. At no stage is there any intrusion of medullary tissue into this gonad anlage.
","PeriodicalId":75428,"journal":{"name":"Acta zoologica et pathologica Antverpiensia","volume":" 62","pages":"95-127"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1975-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"12380473","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

[Origin of the coelomic cavities and the heart in the polypterids (Pisces)]. [多鱼座(双鱼座)体腔和心脏的起源]。

{"title":"[Origin of the coelomic cavities and the heart in the polypterids (Pisces)].","authors":"W M De Smet","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

In polypterus the mesodermal cavities appear quite late during embryonic life. They are generally small and they only get somewhat more voluminous in the anterior mesomeres (where they establish the pronephrie chambers) and in the ventral anterior mesoderm (where they become an embryonic pericardial cavity). The anlage of the heart appears in the anterior part of the tissue that is situated between the paired mesodermal cavities of these stages. It assumes some unawaited dispositions that are truly confusing in the case of a superficial inspection. It is only during larval life that a coelomic cavity appears all along the truncal part of the mesoderm. In the beginning this is a pericardio-peritoneal cavity. But because of the coalescence between several membranes an anterior cavity gets isolated and this one is the pericardial cavity of the adult specimens; this cavity is much more limited than its homonymic counterpart of the embryonic stages.
","PeriodicalId":75428,"journal":{"name":"Acta zoologica et pathologica Antverpiensia","volume":" 62","pages":"29-43"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1975-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"12375995","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ocular lesions in experimental Trypanosoma brucei infection in cats. 实验性布氏锥虫感染猫的眼部病变。

{"title":"Ocular lesions in experimental Trypanosoma brucei infection in cats.","authors":"J Mortelmans, A Neetens","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

Experimental Trypanosoma brucei-infection progressing clinically peak-wise, induces intense proteinleakage in the anterior chamber of cats' and dogs' eyes, with a cyclitislike symptomatology, preceded by hypersensitivity of conjunctiva and respiratory mucosae, together with lacrimation, and facial oedema. The pherogram of aqueous humor is the replica of the serumpherogram at the endstage of the disease and is identical to secondary aqueous. Absence of any significant changes in serumproteins, immunoglobulins and the poor cellular reaction at tissue-level point towards immune unresponsiveness subsequent to experimental protozoal infection. Light-microscopy reveals at the level of the ciliary processes two kinds of cystic formation, the walls of which are formed by ciliary epithelium. One type contains amorphous material next to trypanosomes, macrophages and plasmocyte-like cells; the second type contains also fibrillar structures possibly reminding collagen. Ultramicroscopy suggests these cystic formation to be enlarged ciliary channels. The fenestrated capillary wall showing no changes neither after withdrawal of aqueous, nor after toxic parasite-action, the presence of large proteinmolecules and trypanosomes in the anterior chamber are due to damage to the ciliary epithelium.
","PeriodicalId":75428,"journal":{"name":"Acta zoologica et pathologica Antverpiensia","volume":" 62","pages":"149-72"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1975-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"12414685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

[Metameric components of the occipital region of the polypterids (Pisces)]. [多面体(双鱼座)枕部的同构成分]。

{"title":"[Metameric components of the occipital region of the polypterids (Pisces)].","authors":"W M De Smet","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

Investigations into the development of the pronephros in Polypterus senegalus senegalus Cuvier have shown several details on the composition of the occipital region of this fish. It has been shown that the first six metotic metameres contribute to the structuring of the occipital region. These six metameres also are responsible for the existence of the pronephros. The epimeres of metamere I atrophies in the beginning of larval life. The muscular structures derived from the four following metameres become englobed in the occipital region. In the myoseptum between the previous metameres V and VI the post-occipital semi-vertebra, a pecularity of Polypterus, arises. The first vertebra of the column arises between structures that are derived from the previous metameres VI and VII. Such statements have been possible by a close examination of the disposition of the pectoral fin nerves in several larval stages. Because these nerves have been labelled with different names in several studies, a comparison of these names has been necessary.
","PeriodicalId":75428,"journal":{"name":"Acta zoologica et pathologica Antverpiensia","volume":" 62","pages":"73-94"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1975-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"12375997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two male rabbits were examined actographically in special registration cages in artificial and natural light. A population of rabbits was observed in nature and its rhythm of activity investigated by different methods: counting the animals and marking their burrows. The rabbit shows a diurnal rhythm of activity with a main maximum just after sunset and a secondary maximum at sunrise.
