ANSWER: No. If the abscess is less than 5 cm, packing does not affect outcomes. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE FOR THE ANSWER: B. DATE SEARCH WAS CONDUCTED: November 2014. INCLUSION CRITERIA: Published RCTs and meta-analysis studies. Antibiotic stewardship (ABS) has evolved to confront these scourges. The Joint Commission has formulated a standard for its implementation and this should promote its use where others have failed. However, precisely how to intervene needs definition. Healthcare workers need practicable guidelines. However, these precautions are not well based on evidence-based medicine and may have a more historical and traditional basis.
