Using a cross-sectional panel data set covering the period 2002 to 2017, the t-test statistic was employed to compare the corporate governance practices and firm financial performances between unlisted State-Owned Enterprises, listed State-Owned Enterprises and listed private firms. It was found that corparate governance practices and firm financial performances between State-Owned Enterprises and listed firms in Zambia were significantly different. The board sizes for listed firms were statistically significantly less than those of State-Owned Enterprises and the proportion of non-executive directors on the boards of listed firms were also statistically significantly less than those of State-Owned Enterprises. On the other hand the proportion of female directors on listed firms were statistically significantly more than those of unlisted State-Owned Enterprises. In terms of firm financial performance, it was found that the mean of the Return on Total Assets for listed private firms was statistically significantly greater than the mean for unlisted State-Owned Enterprises. There were significant effect sizes in all the measured variables. This was a country specific study that contributed to the empirical knowledge on corporate governance practices and financial performances in State-Owned Enterprises and listed firms. It is a byzantine maze of pitfalls where a single cyber-attack can lead to extensive oversight by the Federal Trade Commission. The path taken by this paper is that a cloud computing provider should implement the most stringent security framework in existence that encompasses the myriad number of privacy laws in the United States. The reason is that vigorously embracing a strict standard makes a firm likely to comply with the various sectoral privacy laws. However, suppose a company is cyber-attacked and has the misfortune of being prosecuted by the Federal Trade Commission. In that case, the article suggests that the firm take a mature approach to the litigation, not complaining to the agency that it is the victim. A mature approach to federal oversight might lessen the time of the supervisory period. Alnwairan","doi":"10.22158/sssr.v3n4p1","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.22158/sssr.v3n4p1","url":null,"abstract":"This paper examines the idea of double blackness and its role in constructing the Sudanese social hierarchy in Tayeb Salih’s Season of Migration to the North (1969). The article draws on several core concepts in postcolonial and anthropological studies, including race, culture, ethnicity, and Otherness. Instead of tackling the novel from the traditional postcolonial perspective, the paper adds an anthropological lens to the novel’s social dynamics to shed light on some neglected aspects like the multiplicity of Sudanese racial identity and its subsequent self-awareness. The discussion we present in this paper poses some problematic questions about the meaning of blackness and the presence of multiple layers of the Black Self in Sudanese society. Away from the postcolonial implications of the novel, we argue that Salih makes use of the traditional colonial discourse of self vs other and holds a mirror up to the Sudanese society itself. The novel shows that even among African communities where blackness is a norm, blackness and race remain major triggers of polemics and controversies in a very similar manner to what occurs in Western contexts. The research used a descriptive quantitative method; the data were collected using a survey instrument adapted from Borbon and Ylagan (2021) and Dilao and Maghamil (2011). The result showed that most of the respondents were young adults, female, married, and high school graduates; most were housekeepers, had no specific role in the barangay, and mostly belonged to the Roman Catholic denomination.The respondents strongly agreed upon the perceived impact of the livelihood skills and training programs on economic status and values.Meanwhile, the respondents strongly agreed upon the perceived effectiveness of the community extension programs to educational and literacy programs, health-related programs, and environmental protection programs. The respondents perceived that the extension program contributed significantly to their daily lives.
