As a profit-seeking wholesale market participant, a DERA maximizes its profit while providing competitive services to its customers with higher consumer/prosumer surpluses than those offered by the distribution utilities or community choice aggregators. A constrained profit maximization program for aggregating behind-the-meter generation and consumption resources is formulated, from which payment functions for the behind-the-meter consumptions and generations are derived. Also obtained are DERA's bid and offer curves for its participation in the wholesale energy market and the optimal schedule of behind-the-meter resources. It is shown that the proposed DERA's aggregation model can achieve market efficiency equivalent to that when its customers participate individually directly in the wholesale market.","PeriodicalId":74512,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... Although this setting is natural for biological systems, it proves very difficult for machine learning models such as artificial neural networks. To reduce this performance gap, we investigate the question whether biologically inspired Hebbian learning is useful for tackling continual challenges. In particular, we highlight a realistic and often overlooked unsupervised setting, where the learner has to build representations without any supervision. By combining sparse neural networks with Hebbian learning principle, we build a simple yet effective alternative (HebbCL) to typical neural network models trained via the gradient descent. Due to Hebbian learning, the network have easily interpretable weights, which might be essential in critical application such as security or healthcare. We demonstrate the efficacy of HebbCL in an unsupervised learning setting applied to MNIST and Omniglot datasets. We also adapt the algorithm to the supervised scenario and obtain promising results in the class-incremental learning.","PeriodicalId":74512,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... The proposed ROP algorithm can incorporate predetermined inverter failure probabilities and generate multiple scenarios accordingly to optimize resilient operations during an extreme event. The implemented ROP algorithm consists of two main steps: (i) optimization of resilient operational planning, and (ii) preventive resilience enhancement if minimum SR is not met per the analysis in step 1. A typical microgrid (MG) is studied to compare the proposed ROP algorithm against a traditional microgrid energy management (MEM) model. Results indicate that an enhanced resilience operation is achieved by the ROP algorithm, which is demonstrated by the quantification of resilience via the SR. Moreover, the proposed ROP algorithm is able to obtain a greater SR overall compared to that achieved by the traditional MEM, and this benefit of using the proposed ROP increases as the inverter failure probabilities increase.","PeriodicalId":74512,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... While publicly disclosing these issues on social media can be hard, some may incline to express themselves anonymously. We approached such an anonymous female community on Chinese social media where discussion on gender issues takes place with a qualitative content analysis. By observing anonymous experiences contributed by female users and made publicly available by an influencer, we identified 20 issues commonly discussed, with cheating-partner, controlling parents and age anxiety taking the lead. The results are placed into context with Chinese culture and expectations about gender. By describing the results in context with the social challenges faced by women in China, and understanding how these issues are anonymously and openly discussed by them, we aim to motivate more policies and platform designs to accommodate the needs of the affected population.","PeriodicalId":74512,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... Though governments and corporations have curated multiple AI ethics guidelines to curb unethical behavior of AI, the effect has been limited, probably due to the vagueness of the guidelines. In this paper, we take a closer look at how AI ethics issues take place in real world, in order to have a more in-depth and nuanced understanding of different ethical issues as well as their social impact. With a content analysis of AI Incident Database, which is an effort to prevent repeated real world AI failures by cataloging incidents, we identified 13 application areas which often see unethical use of AI, with intelligent service robots, language/vision models and autonomous driving taking the lead. Ethical issues appear in 8 different forms, from inappropriate use and racial discrimination, to physical safety and unfair algorithm. With this taxonomy of AI ethics issues, we aim to provide AI practitioners with a practical guideline when trying to deploy AI applications ethically.","PeriodicalId":74512,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... A key property of a honeyfile, enticement, is the extent to which the file can attract an intruder to interact with it. We introduce a novel metric, Topic Semantic Matching (TSM), which uses topic modelling to represent files in the repository and semantic matching in an embedding vector space to compare honeyfile text and topic words robustly. We also present a honeyfile corpus created with different Natural Language Processing (NLP) methods. Experiments show that TSM is effective in inter-corpus comparisons and is a promising tool to measure the enticement of honeyfiles. TSM is the first measure to use NLP techniques to quantify the enticement of honeyfile content that compares the essential topical content of local contexts to honeyfiles and is robust to paraphrasing.","PeriodicalId":74512,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... In recent studies, it is recognized that relational capital helps manufacturing firms to enhance their competitiveness in global markets. However, prior research does not provide a conclusive account of the impact of relational capital on their export performance in general, and particularly in the context of developing countries. Drawing on a learning-based perspective and contingency approach, this study fills these gaps by theorizing the link between relational capital and firm performance with a focus on developing-country firms that participate in GVCs. Specifically, we propose that the relational capital of these firms will have a stronger positive impact on their export performance when the market and technological turbulence are lower. The results confirm the key hypotheses by showing that developing-country firms' relational capital with buyers has a positive and significant impact on their export performance and that technological turbulence negatively moderates the relationship between relational capital with buyers and export performance. Overall, this research extends the literature on knowledge transfer, interfirm relational capital, and business performance in a developing country context.","PeriodicalId":74512,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ...
