However, in countries where integration has not happened some nursing colleges continue to encounter challenges in their readiness for this process. The study aimed to identify and map the breadth of evidence available on the factors that influence the readiness of nursing colleges to transition into higher education.Methods: Databases such as PubMed, CINAHL, Health Source Nursing Academic Edition, SCOPUS, Google scholar, and Educational Resources Information Centre were used. The review focused on literature published only in English from 1996 to 2021. Arksey and O’Malley’s scoping review framework was used.Results: The search identified 1,408 publications; 23 of these met the inclusion criteria and were selected for full-text review. The following themes emerged: regulations and policies, recognition of nursing education, nurse educator roles, and financial considerations.Conclusions: The review’s findings revealed a need for clear policy frameworks to guide higher education integration and regulatory processes for nursing colleges. Becoming part of higher education improves nursing’s academic status, however, integration may give rise to challenges associated with the lack of educator involvement in policy development and integration plans, and unchanged funding arrangements. The repositioning of nursing colleges should take cognisance of lessons from other countries regarding integration readiness to ensure that change happens with minimal disruption and disharmony.","PeriodicalId":73866,"journal":{"name":"Journal of nursing education and practice","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42582599","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Academic administrators influence the nursing workforce’s preparation. When nursing programs and educators fail to address the urgent nursing shortage, this can result in short- and long-term impacts for the nursing profession. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the experiences of novice mid-level ANLs who transitioned from educators to academic administrators.Methods: A basic qualitative research design was conducted to gain insight into the transition experiences of 10 novice mid-level ANLs. A purposeful sampling technique was used to recruit and select qualified study participants. Individual interviews via Zoom were used to collect data from participants. The researcher used a semi-structured, open-ended interview protocol. A thematic analysis with a constant comparison method, was used to analyze the data.Results: The interview results yielded six themes, which included (1) transitioning into an academic nurse leader, (2) role preparation and professional development, (3) having support, (4) insufficient time, (5) public challenges, and (6) feeling confident but still learning.Conclusions: The study results revealed that role preparation, professional development, and support were essential facilitators during the transition process. The results also suggested that early role preparation of emerging ANLs could build a cadre of qualified, well-prepared academic administrators, thus ensuring academic leadership succession. Recommendations for practice included role socialization, individualized leadership development programs, and formal structured mentoring.","PeriodicalId":73866,"journal":{"name":"Journal of nursing education and practice","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43435355","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The program aims to intensively train novice nurses in seven critical specialties and equip them with the specialty knowledge, skills, and professional competence required to deliver safe and specialized care to critically ill patients. This study aims to determine the levels of confidence, comfort, satisfaction, stress, and experiences of transition-to-practice among nurses who completed the program successfully, and to assess the differences in the levels of confidence, comfort, satisfaction, stress, and experiences of transition-to-practice among the nurses participated in different specialties. The study sample target the first cohort of nurses who participated in the ETP from June 2021 to June 2022 and passed the program successfully (n = 313). Casey-Fink Graduate Nurse Experience Survey was utilized to evaluate the experiences of the participating nurses. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 29 software used to analyze the collected data by performing descriptive analysis using means and standard deviations. Inferential analysis (analysis of variance [ANOVA]) was conducted to assess the variance between the groups so as to identify any statistical differences among the means of all the specialty groups. The findings of this study provide evidence supporting the effectiveness of the ETP in boosting the confidence, comfort, and satisfaction of novice nurses.","PeriodicalId":73866,"journal":{"name":"Journal of nursing education and practice","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44301850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
