Black men are often stereotyped as hypersexual with a disease research focus. This sex-positive study examined definitions of pleasure and condom use motives of heterosexual Black college men in the South. We conducted three focus groups at three universities. Four themes emerged: dimensions of pleasure, mutual pleasure, pleasure and relationship status, and condom use motives. Participants highlighted intimacy aiding in physical pleasure and emphasized using condoms even with decreased pleasure. More research is needed around young Black men and pleasure to shift negative narratives associated with their sexuality.","PeriodicalId":73626,"journal":{"name":"Journal of black sexuality and relationships","volume":"6 1","pages":"49 - 69"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1353/bsr.2020.0000","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48897044","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Design: Hierarchical regressions examined race, social desirability, and race Xsocial desirability interaction as predictors of determinants of sexual risk (positive and negative consequences of risky sex, risk exposure, condom negotiation skills, likelihood of unprotected anal intercourse) among 92 men who have sex with men (White n = 67). Results: Significant interactions for two outcomes indicated that higher social desirability was associated with lower sexual risk only among Black MSM. Conclusion: Research should consider social desirability bias when assessing risky sexual behavior among Black MSM.","PeriodicalId":73626,"journal":{"name":"Journal of black sexuality and relationships","volume":"6 1","pages":"29 - 47"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1353/bsr.2020.0006","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48803814","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Often, desire levels can decrease and self-schemas can be distorted by HIV+ diagnosis. Research to date presents a dearth of clinical research and strategies to serve these women navigating their HIV diagnosis and concurrent sexual desire disorders. Additional insights are presented inclusive of a narrative excerpted sexual history interview, and embedded in a case presentation to elucidate application of specific steps to facilitate reauthoring the stories for these female clients of color.","PeriodicalId":73626,"journal":{"name":"Journal of black sexuality and relationships","volume":"6 1","pages":"1 - 12"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1353/bsr.2020.0004","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42701603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study included 351 Black students (M=20.42, SD=1.71, range 18–24 years) attending a Historically Black College/University (HBCU). Results reveal alcohol use and condom attitudes were the most significant predictors of sexual decision-making and behavior.
