The theoretical model of the formation of a double electric layer with a wider cross-section on the cathode side, available in the literature, has been analyzed. It has been shown that under typical conditions for dusty plasma in a helium discharge, the potential jump does not exceed 12 V. The selection of polydisperse quartz particles at low discharge currents has been experimentally studied; it has been found that there is a weak dependence of particle size on pressure. Under experimental conditions, the size of dust particles was about 4 μm. In this work, the 1s–2p transition energies and transition probabilities of hydrogen-like ions (Z = 6, 18, 26, and 74) are calculated using the multiconfiguration Dirac–Hartree–Fock (MCDHF) method coupled with the self-consistent-field ion sphere model (SCFISM) or the ion sphere model (ISM) via GRASP2K code. The results show that relativistic effects depend strongly on nuclear charge number Z (following a Z2 scaling law) and increase significantly with electron density, while they decrease weakly and tend to saturate with increasing temperature. The interelectrode volume of the auxiliary discharge communicates with the volume of the grounded cathode cavity of the high-voltage gap through an opening in the flat part of one of the hollow electrodes. Then a parasitic current arises to the grounded cathode cavity through the hole. The mechanism of formation of parasitic current for various electrical power supply circuits of an auxiliary glow discharge and the influence of parasitic current on the static breakdown voltage of a high-voltage gap is discussed. It is shown that parasitic current can be formed because of the emergence of an ion flow from the negative glow plasma, an ion flow from the positive column plasma, and an electron flow from the positive column plasma. It is also possible to form a parasitic electron current during ion bombardment of one of the electrodes of the trigger unit. The greatest reduction in the breakdown voltage of the high-voltage gap occurs when a parasitic electron current appears when electrons leave the plasma of the positive column. For the trigger unit, a geometric design in which the influence of the electron parasitic current on the breakdown voltage is minimal is proposed.
","PeriodicalId":735,"journal":{"name":"Plasma Physics Reports","volume":"52 6","pages":"736 - 744"},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2026-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"148699751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The hot electrons have been considered to be either kappa or Cairns distributed, since such nonthermal distributions for electrons are quite ubiquitous in various space plasma environments. It is revealed that the EAWs undergo a collisionless damping through the process of phase-mixing due to ion mass finiteness, and that this damping is profoundly influenced by the nonthermality of the hot electrons. The consideration of the kappa-distributed hot electrons causes the phase-mixing time to be higher in comparison to the time in plasmas with Maxwell–Boltzmann (MB) distributed hot electrons, while the consideration of Cairns-distributed electrons, leads to phase-mixing time that is lower than in the MB-limit case. Additionally, the phase-mixing time is found to be affected by the temperature and the equilibrium density of the hot electrons.
