Two single-frequency fiber lasers fabricated from two different types of erbium-doped fibers have been demonstrated. One of the lasers was made using conventional erbium doped fiber manufactured by vapour phase deposition technique. Another was based on a new type of fiber made by sintering phosphate glass in a silica glass tube (composite fiber). Both fibers were photosensitive to laser radiation at a wavelength of 248 nm (KrF excimer laser), and laser cavities were inscribed directly in the core of these types of active fibers. Stable single-frequency lasing was obtained for both laser configurations. The maximum value of relative intensity noise measured at the frequency of relaxation oscillations was approximately the same for both laser configuration: –82 and –86 dB/Hz, but the generation bandwidth in the conventional fiber laser was lower: 6.5 kHz instead of 14 kHz in composite fiber laser. Due to the high concentration of erbium ions the slope efficiency of the laser based on composite fiber was 0.98% compared to a conventional erbium doped fiber laser (0.19%).</p>","PeriodicalId":732,"journal":{"name":"Physics of Wave Phenomena","volume":"33 2","pages":"93 - 101"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2025-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144135475","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is shown that the effect of generated laser pulses leads to the formation of a low-density zone in the focal surface region, thus minimizing the laser beam self-defocusing when depositing energy to the target and, as a consequence, increasing the radiation intensity as a result of the decrease in the focal spot size to the diffraction limit. A mechanism is proposed, which also makes it possible to increase significantly the X-ray yield upon interaction of intense tandem femtosecond laser pulses with the laser-induced dense surface plasma formed by the tandem prepulse. It is shown that the conditions necessary for reaching a yield of ~8-keV X-ray photons higher than 10<sup>10</sup> photons/s can be implemented using a copper target; these characteristics are urgent for designing an efficient microfocus tabletop X-ray source of new generation.</p>","PeriodicalId":732,"journal":{"name":"Physics of Wave Phenomena","volume":"33 1","pages":"1 - 8"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2025-03-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143676355","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is shown that a four-layer weakly relativistic virpertron (150 keV, 2 kA) ensures a multivircator mode with a number of virtual cathodes (VCs) no less than four. The electron beam densitogram was calculated; this calculation revealed that the electron beam in the virpertron acquires a complex spatial-wave dynamics, characterized by a forward spatial-charge wave and several VCs. As a result, conditions for the generation of high-power microwave electromagnetic fields in the cavity are formed. The calculated energy spectrogram of the electron beam showed redistribution of electron energy in time: occurrence of a group of runaway electrons and a large group of slow electrons with an energy corresponding to the VCs.
