The results proved that the historical lithographic plate was printed on wove paper from Whatman paper. Wove paper is the predominant paper type used for fine art prints. Compounds such as gelatin, alum, and CaCO 3 can be identified using ATR-FTIR and XRD historical online: 25 June 2022. Lithography is one of the rare historical collections that have not been sufficiently studied by researchers. This study aims to use different analytical techniques in order to identify the components of the paper support of a historical lithographic plate, which is one of the 44 printed plates in a volume entitled book \"Plates illustrative of the researches and operations of G. Belzoni in Egypt and Nubia\". Visual assessment, identification of the cellulose fibers investigation of the surface morphology by scanning electron microscope (SEM) with EDX, X-ray diffraction, and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (ATR/FTIR) analysis were used to identify fillers and sizing materials. The results revealed that the paper used to print the lithographic plate is Whatman paper (i.e. wove paper) which is European- made. Rags (both cotton and linen fibers) have been used as a raw material in the creation of this paper. Gelatin and alum have been used as surface sizing materials in the paper support. The presence of calcium carbonate in the paper support is attributed to calcium hydroxide (lime), which was added to the rags during the beating process.","PeriodicalId":7258,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Research in Conservation Science","volume":"47 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76381623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a preliminary step microbiological studies were carried out on a wooden sycamore mask to identify the microbial infestation. This was followed by an experimental study, which aimed to study the effect of basil oil treatment on sycamore wood samples. Heat ageing process was carried out on naturally aged wood to simulate archaeological samples; and for evaluation and assessment of oil treatment FTIR analysis, color change measurements and pH value were carried out. The obtained results suggest that basil oil plays a role in protecting wood not only from microbial infestation, but also from ageing, and reduces the alkalinity of wood directly after treatment. The ratio between lignin/carbohydrates (hemicellulose, crystal-lized and amorphous cellulose) was not totally affected in the treated samples after heat ageing when compared to the untreated aged samples. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to introduce basil oil as an effective environmentally friendly material in preventive conservation treatments.","PeriodicalId":7258,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Research in Conservation Science","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89699123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is from the expedition of the Faculty of Archaeology, Cairo University, Egypt (at Saqqara, season 2016/2017). The condition of the sarcophagus was weak and it suffered from many deterioration aspects including the accumulation of dirt and soil remains, cracks, decay, fragility of pottery body and crystallization of salts. Furthermore, many sherds were broken and some were missing. It should be mentioned here that the analysis and investigations for this sarcophagus were done in a previous study. Prior to conservation, documentation was performed using AutoCAD to demonstrate the deterioration aspects and prepare a damage map for the archaeological sarcophagus. Conservation techniques included both mechanical and chemical methods, including soft brushes and diluted acetone with distilled water. The joining process for the sarcophagus sherds was performed using paraloid B-72 60% dissolved in acetone. Finally, the completion process was applied with a mixture of dental plaster with grog and primal AC33. The results of the conservation techniques proved that cleaning revealed the aesthetic value of the object, while the joining and completion of missed parts increased the strength of the object studied.","PeriodicalId":7258,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Research in Conservation Science","volume":"51 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89467549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
