AbStRACt Objective: The current study investigated the effect of Sophora flavescens, known as Kushen decoction (KSD) on body temperature and metabolism against fever induction in Wistar rats. Methods: Firstly UPLC-Q-TOF/MSE analysis was carried out for identifying the KSD composition. Fever model was induced by dry yeast and, orally administered at dose of KSD (500 mg/kg) to the rats. The alteration of the rectal temperature (TR) was estimated to evaluate the positive effect of KSD. TR changes were recorded over time. In addition, the antipyretic effect was confirmed from the hypothalamus of rats through real-time PCR. Results: The model and treatment groups showed significantly increased TR and the mRNA expression of IL-1 and IL-6 after 5 hours, even though the expression level of arginine vasopressin (AVP) and TNF-alpha were not altered. The TR tests indicated the administration of KSD to fevered rats attenuated yeast-induced fever and, significantly reduced PGE2 expression levels in hypothalamus. The mRNA expression results reveal that dry yeast-induced fever could be mediated by PGE2 production. Conclusions: KSD could play the antipyretic effect by reducing PGE2 expression in the hypothalamus. Subsequently, KSD inhibited the development of yeast-induced fever. In people’s struggle with the disease, more and more clinical practice shows that traditional Chinese medicine has shown an increasingly important role in the outbreak. Among them, Qingfei Paidu decoction (QFPD) has been widely used in China and overseas Chinese, which has good advantages in the treatment of COVID-19. Although some meta-analyses have studied the efficacy of QFPD in the treatment of COVID-19, the inclusion and exclusion criteria of trials in these studies were not strict enough and their results were not consistent. So, the exact efficacy of QFPD for treating COVID-19 was still questionable. Objective: To systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of QFPD for COVID-19. Methods: A comprehensive literature search of qualified trials using QFPD to treat COVID-19 was conducted in 11 electronic databases, including Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science, Springer link, Clinicaltrials.gov, etc. From their establishment to March 1, 2021. Subjects and abstracts of the trials were read in Note Express for preliminary screening, and the full text was read for further screening. Researchers independently extracted the data in duplicate, and the risk of bias of trials was assessed by using the Cochrane collaboration tool, followed by data analysis using Rev Man 5.3. Results: Four trials with 390 participants were included for meta-analysis, revealing that QFPD can effectively shorten the average length of stay in hospital and the time of nucleic acid to turn negative. In terms of adverse reactions, there was no significant difference between the experimental and control groups. Conclusions: These results demonstrated that QFPD could effectively treat COVID-19, improve clinical symptoms, shorten hospital stay and nucleic acid negative time, and no obvious adverse reactions have been found. Compared with other meta-analyses of QFPD, this research has some unique features, including its comprehensiveness, the large-scale of its search and its transparent approach, which may provide some new treatment ideas for clinicians. However, the considerable workload required to create SRs prevents reflecting the latest knowledge. This study automated the classification of included articles by adopting the Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) algorithm. By pretraining with abstracts of articles and a generated vocabulary fine-tuned with titles of articles, the proposed srBERTmy overcomes the training data insufficiency while improving performance in both classification and relation-extraction tasks. However, the impact of those factors on CBVD among type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients has not been well studied in the study area. The main aim of this study was to assess the acute effects of metrological factors including temperature, relative humidity and atmospheric pressure on incidence of CBVD among type 2 diabetes patients in Beijing, China. Methods: Data was obtained from 258 large general hospitals from the Beijing Public Health Information Center Cardiovascular Case Database and China. Meteorological Administration covering 16 districts in Beijing from 2014 to 2018. Time-stratified case crossover design with a distributed lag nonlinear model (DLNM) was used by considering 27 lag days on CBVD admissions. Results: Within five years (January 2014–December 2018), a total of 223,216 cases for cerebrovascular disease were collected after excluding nonlocal admissions, of which 9,541 (4.27%), 149,757 (67.09%), 7,444 (3.33%), 31,356 (14.05%), and 23,912 (10.71%) were hospitalized for hemorrhagic stroke, ischemic stroke, atherosclerosis, intracranial aneurysm, and apoplexy sequela, respectively. In short, male participants and elderly individuals (≥65 years) accounted for 57.6% and 61.7%, respectively. Generally, the cumulative exposure-response curve for temperature was almost inverted “V”-shaped, with a slight increase at concentrations of higher than 25°C. The cumulative exposure response curve for relative humidity was almost linear. The cumulative exposure-response curves for atmospheric pressure were V-shaped, which meant that both high and low concentrations of atmospheric pressure may increase the risk of cerebrovascular disease incidence among patients with T2D. Conclusions: The results of this study indicate that both an increase and a decrease in temperature and atmospheric pressure had a significant association with the occurrence of cerebrovascular disease among co morbid patients with diabetes. This study provides evidence of the short term effects of metrological factors on hospital admissions of CBVD among T2D patients. However, its mechanisms of action and molecular targets for treatment of COVID-19 are not clear. The active compounds of LH were collected and their targets were identified through the network pharmacology. The mechanism of compound multi components and multi targets and its relationship with disease are analyzed. COVID-19 targets were obtained by analyzing with TCMSP. In total, 282 active ingredients and 510 targets of LH were identified. Twenty-one target genes associated with LH and COVID-19. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) data were then obtained and PPI networks of LH putative targets and COVID-19-related targets were visualized and merged to identify the candidate targets for LH against COVID-19. Gene ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis were carried out. The gene-pathway network was constructed to screen the crucial target genes. The functional annotations of target genes were found to be related to immune regulation, host defense, inflammatory reaction and autoimmune diseases and so on. Twenty pathways including immunology, cancer, and cell processing were significantly enriched. Quercetin and luteolin might be the crucial ingredients. IL6 was the core gene and other several genes including IL1B, STAT1, IFNGR1, and NCF1 were the key genes in the gene-pathway network of LH for treatment of COVID-19. The results indicated that LH’s effects against COVID-19 might relate to regulation of immunological function through the specific biological processes and the related pathways. However, few data on the effects of homeopathic VA are found in the literature, even though commercially VA formulations are available, with extremely low doses of its active compounds. Previous studies used the anthroposophical form of Viscum and provided information on the mechanisms of action of this drug in tumor cells or in cells of the immune system. Materials and methods: This study aimed to evaluate the safety of intravenous and subcutaneous application of D3 homeopathic Viscum album (VAD3) in dogs. Healthy dogs (n=7) underwent blood collection for blood cells count and biochemistry analysis and clinical examinations 7 days prior and at days 0, 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, and 14 after the beginning of treatment. The dogs received intravenous application of VAD3 at days 0, 5, 10, and 14, and subcutaneous at days 3, 7, and 12. Results: There was a transient increase in the number of monocytes (P=0.0022) at day 5, while there were no significant (P>0.05) changes in any of the other blood endpoints over time. Nevertheless, all blood parameters remained within the reference values for the species. All animals completed the study in good health conditions. According to the Quality-of-Life Assessment Questionnaire, all animals showed improvement in mood and appetite after receiving VAD3.
