The economics of precision technologies are as site-specific as the technology. Therefore, educating producers (and agribusiness) on how to determine the return on investment by following the correct investment analysis techniques within a proper decision-making framework helps ensure an accurate site-specific return on investment for precision agriculture technologies.","PeriodicalId":7228,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Animal Biosciences","volume":"22 1","pages":"724-727"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81509660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The VRDI area was split into 140 15×15-meter irrigation zones which were watered independently during three seasons with weekly schedules based on estimated actual ET. Irrigation was scheduled with the objective of decreasing spatial variability while maintaining high yields. Compared to an adjacent, 4.05-ha, conventionally drip irrigated section of the vineyard (CDI); VRDI increased yield and water use efficiency in all three years and decreased spatial dependency and structure in 2013 and 2015.","PeriodicalId":7228,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Animal Biosciences","volume":"29 1","pages":"574-577"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88659883","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It aims to identify fields where the potential benefits of applying precision agricultural practices are highest from an economic and environmental perspective. The categorization is based on vegetation indices derived from Sentinel-2 satellite imagery. A case study on 7678 winter wheat fields is presented, which employs open data and open source software to analyze the satellite imagery. Furthermore, the method can be automated to deliver categorizations at every update of satellite imagery, hence coupling the geospatial data analysis to direct improvements for the farmers, contractors, and consultants.","PeriodicalId":7228,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Animal Biosciences","volume":"176 1","pages":"388-393"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79853036","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This process was automated by using ISO 11783 and SAE J1939 communication information from the tractor’s CAN-Bus. Using a data logger and a machine to machine (M2M) gateway inside the tractor’s cabin, CAN-Bus data were recorded and transmitted to the cloud-based server of the FMIS. There, a script was responsible for parsing and aggregating the raw machine data into specific agricultural tasks and then importing them into the FMIS. The operator could choose the type of the performed task by a number of switches connected with the digital inputs of the data logger.","PeriodicalId":7228,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Animal Biosciences","volume":"18 1","pages":"650-655"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73486612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system uses the information provided by soil moisture sensors installed at three soil depths (10, 20 and 30 cm) and user-defined irrigation set-points to trigger automatic irrigation events. An Optimized irrigation treatment in which irrigation set-points and duration of irrigation have been determined from soil hydraulic properties analysis and soil water modelling is compared to the irrigation scheduling criteria established by the grower (Control treatment). The results showed that the Optimized treatment applied 30% of the water applied by the Control treatment, led to mild to moderate crop water stress conditions and had no impact on berry yield and quality.","PeriodicalId":7228,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Animal Biosciences","volume":"37 1","pages":"551-556"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78402179","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Apparent soil electrical conductivity (ECₐ) was measured in a field cropped with San Marzano tomato using a multiple frequency electromagnetic profiler with 6 operating frequencies. Mixed support kriging was used to estimate ECₐ taking into account the change of support. The method includes punctual kriging with the error being the dispersion variance associated with each frequency. The individual ECₐ maps were weighted by the dispersion variance to obtain a map which was used for field partition in management zones.","PeriodicalId":7228,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Animal Biosciences","volume":"15 1","pages":"594-599"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84457840","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
