There has been a rise in the published literature on the utilization of crops for bioenergy production in Louisiana. However, very few scholarly documents have used Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to map the distribution of potential bioenergy crops in Louisiana. This study seeks to fill the void by evaluating the potential of bioenergy crops in Louisiana for energy production using GIS. Given this objective, the agricultural census data for 1999, 2009, 2019, and 2020 obtained from the U.S. Department of Agriculture were used in the analysis. The quantities of various crops produced in the state were loaded into an attribute table and joined to a shapefile using ArcGIS software. The symbology tool’s graduated option was used to create five maps representing each of the annual gasoline price variation with respect to years is statistically significant (p < 0.05). This suggests that gasoline prices will generally rise despite a price drop over the years. The paper concludes by outlining policy recommendations in the form of assessing the availability and viability of other crop types, such as wheat, oats, and rice, for energy production in the state.

MNPs were synthesised by co-precipitation and used in the \u0000hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) of water hyacinth at different reaction conditions \u0000(temperature, reaction time, MNPs to biomass ratio and biomass to water ratio). \u0000The best reaction conditions were as follows: temperature— 320, reaction time—60 minutes, MNPs to biomass ratio – 0.2 g/g and \u0000biomass to water ratio – 0.06 g/g. HTL in \u0000presence of MNPs gave higher biocrude yields compared to HTL in absence \u0000of MNPs. The highest biocrude yield was 58.3 wt% compared to 52.3 wt% in \u0000absence of MNPs at similar reaction conditions. The composition of biocrude oil \u0000was analysed using GC-MS and elemental analysis. GC-MS results revealed that \u0000HTL in presence of MNPs led to an increase in the percentage area corresponding \u0000to hydrocarbons and a reduction in the percentage area corresponding to oxygenated \u0000compounds, nitrogenated compounds and sulphur compounds. Elemental analysis \u0000revealed an increase in the hydrogen and carbon content and a reduction in the \u0000nitrogen, oxygen and sulphur content of the biocrude when HTL was done in \u0000presence of MNPs compared to HTL in absence of MNPs. The nanoparticles were \u0000recovered from the biochar by sonication and magnetic separation and recycled. \u0000The recycled MNPs were still efficient as HTL catalysts and were recycled five times. The application of MNPs in the HTL of \u0000water hyacinth increases the yield of biocrude oil, improves the quality of \u0000biocrude through removal of hetero atoms, oxygen and sulphur compounds and is a \u0000potentially economical alternative to the traditional petroleum catalysts since \u0000MNPs are cheaper, widely available and can be easily recovered magnetically and \u0000recycled. This will potentially lead to an economical, environmentally friendly \u0000and sustainable way of producing biofuels from biomass.

Agricultural commodities play a key role in economic \u0000growth, therefore the ability to produce more would enhance development. This \u0000paper offers an analysis of the production of bioenergy crops in Mississippi. \u0000Relative measures, time series graphs and descriptive statistics coupled with \u0000geographic information systems (GIS) mapping using ArcMap were employed to generate \u0000the outcome of this research. The outcome of the statistical analysis indicated \u0000that corn and soybeans were the most produced crops in Agricultural Districts \u000010 and 40. These districts produced more bioenergy crops than the other \u0000districts. GIS mapping results also showed that the potential area for bioenergy \u0000crops is in zone 131 of the Mississippi Land Resource Area (MLRA). This zone \u0000has an absolute advantage in the production of these crops which includes the \u0000diversity of biomass production such as corn, cotton, soybeans, wheat, rice, \u0000barley, grain sorghum, canola, camelina, algae, hardwoods, and softwood. In fact, most experimental \u0000bio-digesters operate under optimal implementation conditions with strict control \u0000of input and output parameters. However, this is not the case for reactors \u0000installed in the field, as these so-called bio-digesters are exposed to real environmental conditions with a periodic \u0000variation of the physic-chemical parameters in the reactors throughout \u0000the day. The primary objective of this work was to produce fuel briquettes from homogeneous and heterogeneous combinations of carbonized maize cobs, Bamboo poles and charcoal dust. For the primary objective to be achieved, the main activities which were performed included; chopping bamboo poles, sorting maize cobs, carbonization, crushing, binder preparation, mixing, extrusion, drying and quality assessment of the fuel briquettes. The maize cobs and charcoal dust used for this work were purchased from the farmers and charcoal sellers respectively from the districts of Luwero and Nakaseke. Bamboo poles were provided by Divine bamboo group. The homogenous combinations included 100% maize cob char, 100% bamboo char and 100% charcoal dust. Heterogeneous combinations included 75% bamboo char + 25% charcoal dust and 25% bamboo char + 75% charcoal dust. The test results for both homogenous and heterogeneous combinations of fuel briquettes had ranges of moisture content 8% - 11%, Volatile matter 12% - 23%, Ash content 33% - 39%, Heating Value 16 - 22 MJ/Kg, Fixed Carbon 30% - 51% and moisture content 8% - 9%, Volatile matter 13% - 19%, Ash content 27% - 44%, Heating Value 16 - 18 MJ/Kg, Fixed Carbon 30% - 51% respectively. The test results for drop resistance, density and Compressibility strength for both homogeneous and heterogeneous combinations had ranges of 7% - 56%, 214 - 941 kg/m3, 0.077 - 0.544 N/mm2 and 12% - 28%, 869.1 - 958.3 kg/m3, 0.124 - 0.295 N/mm2 respectively. These results were within the ranges reported in the literature especially for the heterogeneous combinations. Therefore, there is the possibility to use bamboo woody feedstock in combination with other agricultural waste feedstock for the production of fuel briquettes. We can increase the quality and production of fuel briquettes by using alternative feedstock sources rather than degrading the environment through deforestation.

Wildfire suppression costs have \u0000consistently exceeded British Columbia’s budget set for such activities. \u0000Pelletization of excess wood for bioenergy applications has been proposed as a \u0000possible method of reducing the overall costs of fighting wildfires. In this study, a traditional pellet \u0000mill produces wood pellets from new, marginal feedstocks for $182.24 ± 24.47 and a mobile \u0000pellet production system produces wood pellets for $402.71 ± 24.18 . \u0000The traditional pellet mill produces 90,000 with harvest \u0000residues being collected in the forest, transported to the pellet mill, dried, \u0000chipped, pelletized and then stored. The mobile system collects harvest \u0000residues from the forest, transports them to the forest landing where the trailer-mounted \u0000mobile pellet system is established and is then ground, pelletized and dried if \u0000needed. Cellulosic biomass is particularly attractive renewable \u0000resources for its low cost and abundance and neutral carbon balance. However, \u0000methanogenesis remains as a major factor limiting MFC performance. The current \u0000study reports that saponin addition at 0.05% w/v dose to anolyte in MFCs \u0000inhibited methanogenesis and improves power generation and cellulose \u0000fermentation. Mediator-less two chamber H-type MFCs were prepared using rumen fluid as anode inocula at 20% v/v of \u0000anolyte to convert finely ground pine tree (Avicel) at 2%, w/v to electricity. \u0000Saponin was added to the anode of MFC at 0.005% or 0.05% v/v dosage for \u0000treatment. MFC power and current across an external resistor were \u0000measured daily for 10d. On d10, collected gases from anode compartment were \u0000measured for total gas volume and analyzed for gas composition on gas \u0000chromatography. Supplementation of saponin to MFC at 0.005% did not have any \u0000effects on electricity generation or biogas production and composition. Saponin \u0000at 0.05% dose reduced 10% of methane production and increased 40% of CO2 production and 6.4% of total gas production for 10d MFC operation. Voltage \u0000across resistor prior to treatment addition (d0) was 164.75 ± 9.07 mV. In \u0000control group, voltage across resistor did not change (P = 0.9153) with time \u0000course and mean was 167.8 ± 8.20 mV ranged from 157 to 174.5 mV during 10d \u0000operation. In 0.05% Saponin group, voltage across resistor increased (P 0.0001) after d2 and mean was \u0000187.3 ± 4.30 mV ranged between 161.5 and 204.0 mV and the 10d mean of voltage \u0000across resistor in 0.05% Saponin was greater (P 0.0001) than in control group. 0.05% Saponin also had \u0000greater voltage across resistor at d5 (P = 0.0030) and d6 (P = 0.0246) than \u0000control. End point potential increased (P 0.0001) in 0.05% Saponin after d2. 0.05% Saponin had \u0000greater (P 0.0001) in 0.05% Saponin. Power density increased (P \u0000 0.0001) after d2 in 0.05% Saponin. 0.05% Saponin MFCs had greater (P 0.0001) overall mean of 10d \u0000operation. The following mixtures were carried out: FW with CD respectively at different ratios 100:0% (A), 80:20% (B) and 60:40% (C); FW with MW at the following ratio 80:20% (D); FW with CD and MW respectively at these ratios 80:10:10% (F) and 60:20:20% (G). The biogas produced was measured using a milligas counter® and the volume of gas was recorded. The gas composition was determined using gas chromatography. With a pH stable for raw substrates and mixtures, TS and VS (%TS) contents for FW were respectively 31.01% and 91.55%. Between 3 to 13 days of experimentation, the highest flow rate was observed. The percentage of methane was more important for mixtures B and D, 61% and 59% respectively. pH and VOA/TIC were stable at the end of the batch test for all mixtures, meaning that the organic matter was already well digested.
