This study aimed to investigate the epidemiology of low birth weight in the lake areas of Cotonou. Methods: A cross-sectional analytical study included 931 records of women who gave birth in 2022 in the Cotonou 1-4 health zone. Completed maternity records were included in this study, except for premature births and congenital malformations. Birth weight was the dependent variable. Sociodemo-graphic, obstetrical, preventive care and child-related data were collected us-ing a digitized form. These data were analyzed using SPSS software to determine the prevalence and factors associated with low birth weight using multiple logistic regression analysis. Results: The prevalence of low birth weight was 16.30%. Factors related to this prevalence were non-use of mosquito nets during pregnancy (OR = 2.72; CI: 1.275 - 5.805), twin pregnancy (OR = 9.97; CI: 3.869 - 25.696), previous abortion (OR = 1.61; CI: 1.034 - 2.515), low number of pregnancy (OR = 3.97; CI: 1.276 - 12.393), trimester of first ante-natal visit (OR = 3.47; CI: 1.821 - 6.638) and birth size less than 45 cm (OR = 5.98; CI: 2.965 - 12.083). Conclusion: The prevalence obtained from this study justifies the need to support pregnant women in this health zone. It is, therefore, essential to strengthen communication and health promotion strategies for women before, during, and after pregnancy.","PeriodicalId":71174,"journal":{"name":"流行病学期刊(英文)","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70635322","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As part of a gene expression study, we recruited cases with T2DM and matched, unaffected controls at an urban hospital in Washington, DC, with a majority AA population. Here we describe the profile of socio-demographic, behavioral, and health-related associations of the study population. Self-reported data were collected from cases with T2DM (N=77) and age- and gender-matched controls (N=80), ages 45-65 years. Logistic regression was used to calculate odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). As expected, obesity, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease were more prevalent in cases than controls. Tobacco smoking and working alongside other tobacco smokers were also associated with T2DM. After adjusting for covariates, current tobacco smoking remained statistically associated with the disease (OR per half pack of cigarettes 1.43, 95% CI 1.04-1.95; <i>p</i>-value 0.027). HbA1c levels were elevated in T2DM cases who smoked more than a pack of cigarettes daily. These associations highlight the comorbid burdens of T2DM in an AA urban community setting and identify tobacco control as an unmet need for future prevention and control efforts.</p>","PeriodicalId":71174,"journal":{"name":"流行病学期刊(英文)","volume":"12 4","pages":"431-448"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC11296657/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141891174","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the profile of pathogens isolated among patients admitted to an intensive care unit of a major urban Moroccan city that presented nosocomial infection during their hospitalisation. Results: During the study period, 34 patients developed a nosocomial infection during hospitalisation in ICU. The mean age of patients was 42.3 ± 18.3 years (range: 18.0 - 86.0 years) and 68% were males. The main diagnoses were multiple trauma injuries (47%) and thermal burns (18%). In terms of morbidities, 9% of the patients presented diabetes. The most common sites were central line-associated bloodstream infection (38%), bloodstream infection (35%), ventilator-associated pneumonia (32%), urinary catheter-related infection (29%), and soft tissue infection (21%). Most frequently isolated pathogens were: Acinetobacter baumani (25%), followed by Klebsiella spp. (12%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (8%), coagulase negative Staphylococcus aureus (6%), E. coli (6%), Providencia spp. (6%), Enterococcus faecalis (6%), Raoultella terrigena (4%). Conclusion: The bloodstream was the most common site and Gram-negatives were the most commonly reported causes of ICU infections. The incidence found was high, the mortality was strong, corresponding with that of developing countries. These results will allow to set up a targeted pro-gram of prevention and to estimate the efficiency of interventions.","PeriodicalId":71174,"journal":{"name":"流行病学期刊(英文)","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70635060","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
