El objetivo de la investigacion fue conocer el efecto de la melaza o aceite de soya como fuente de energia combinada con dos niveles de vitamina C en dietas para mantenimiento en cuyes. Se usaron 24 hembras distribuidas al azar en cuatro tratamientos con seis repeticiones cada uno; los animales recibieron una dieta con 3.0 Kcal de energia digestible con aceite de soya o melaza y 100 o 300 mg de acido ascorbico por kg de alimento. Se evaluo la ganancia de peso (GP), el consumo de alimento (CA), la permanencia capilar en anagen y la mortalidad durante 28 dias. Los datos obtenidos se analizaron con un diseno completamente al azar con arreglo factorial 2 x 2. En los resultados no observamos interaccion, pero hubo efecto en consumo de alimento al usar melaza con 100 mg de Vitamina C en la primera semana, no hubo efecto de los tratamientos sobre la permanencia capilar o mortalidad. Adicionar aceite de soya o melaza como fuente concentrada de energia combinada con 100 o 300 mg de vitamina C por kg de alimento no afecta el peso corporal, la mortalidad y permanencia capilar pero modifica el consumo del alimento en los cuyes.","PeriodicalId":7052,"journal":{"name":"Abanico Veterinario","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41732225","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this work was to evaluate different essential oils and terpenoid compounds to improve ruminal fermentation and the production of volatile fatty acids, attenuating the generation of methane. The chemical composition (terpenoids) of the oils, as well as volatile fatty acids (VFAs), were determined by gas chromatography. For in vitro digestibility, the in vitro gas production technique was used, and the ruminal liquid was used. Methane was inferred from the concentration of VFAs. It was found that all the essential oils presented each one of the terpenoids in different concentrations, reporting the highest concentration of carvacrol in the essential oil of clove (303 mg mL-1) and oregano (1.20 mg mL-1); terpinene was presented in greater quantity in the essential oil of peppermint (4.83 mg mL-1); for peppermint and rosemary oil, linalool was higher and for limonene, the highest concentration was in eucalyptus oil (449 mg mL-1) and rosemary (12.42 mg mL-1). For gas production in digestibility, eucalyptus essential oil at a dose of 0.3 presented 176 mL g-1 DM. For in vitro digestibility, rosemary oil in high dose (0.6 mL) presented the best ruminal fermentation since it had better methane mitigation (716.83 mM/L) without negatively affecting the concentration of VFAs (acetate, 1892.2; propionic, 526.14; butyric, 24.99 mM/L), as well as terpenoids like thymol, linalool, and limonene in high doses. It is concluded that the best in vitro ruminal fermentation with methane mitigation was observed with rosemary oil and the terpenoid compounds were thymol, linalool, and limonene in the high dose.","PeriodicalId":7052,"journal":{"name":"Abanico Veterinario","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48734280","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The semen was collected from male goats (n=4), two commercial diluents AndroMed® (1% soy lecithin, SL); Optidyl (20% (v/v) Tris-egg yolk; TY), and a citrate-egg yolk-based diluent (CY) were used in fresh semen (FS) and then cooled from 37 to 4 °C for 2 h (refrigerated semen, RS), afterwards straws were filled with semen and frozen in liquid nitrogen at -196 °C (FS). There were no differences (p>0.05) between diluents in the FS in the mass motility (MM; 4.7±0.26), sperm viability (SV; 74.1±1.66) and individual motility (MI; 62.3±4.0). In the same sense, for the RS there was no difference (p>0.05) between diluents with respect to MM (3.83±0.4) and MI (52.1±6.0), however, the SV varied (p<0.05) according to the diluent, observing the lowest viability in SL vs CY and TY (51.0±13.0 vs 71.3±3.0 and 69.0±3.1). Regarding FS the MM, MI and SV obtained better values (p<0.05) with the diluent TY vs SL and CY (2.4±0.5, 32.5±8.3, 41.3±13.0). The results showed a better cryopreservation of goat semen with the diluent Tris-yolk compared to that of soy lecithin.","PeriodicalId":7052,"journal":{"name":"Abanico Veterinario","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45085217","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it is not yet clear whether the neurological pathway can be modified to the degree to which stress is perceived. Furthermore, there is not enough information as to how factors that modify perception stress degree act on stress-induced Hyperthermia. Besides, research indicates that the thermal response possibly has a greater cardiovascular influence by generating energy resource consumption. In the same way, the factors that induce this response have been questioned, since recent evidence indicates that social factors such as the presence of conspecifics attenuate the thermal response, but, when coexistence or some other action like parenting is prevented, the response is to the reverse. For this reason, the objective of this article was to analyze the neurobiology of stress-induced hyperthermia and its conceptual difference with infectious fever, as well as to integrate the factors that modulate it, analyzing recent scientific advances in stress-induced thermal response.","PeriodicalId":7052,"journal":{"name":"Abanico Veterinario","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45948481","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We studied 13,648 birds between 9–49 days of age at 82 companies in 13 Brazilian states. Birds were randomly selected (3–6 birds/aviary) and euthanized. Macroscopic lesions were analyzed, and the intestinal mucosa was scraped to count E. maxima oocysts. The classification of species was based on the size of the oocysts. We also quantified the infectious burden using a scoring system. Subclinical coccidiosis (E. maxima micro) was detected in an average of 34.8%, E. acervulina (16.1%), E. maxima (7.9%), and E. tenella (4.1%) were also identified with annual fluctuations. The count of oocysts was within score 1 (1–10 oocysts/bird) in 47.5–84.4% of the cases; followed by score 2 (11–20), 3 (21–40) and 4 (over 41 oocysts/bird). Subclinical coccidiosis is a cause for concern, with 3.5 out of every ten birds being infected. This is a factor responsible for the lower productive performance of broilers.","PeriodicalId":7052,"journal":{"name":"Abanico Veterinario","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42269711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since clinical manifestations are varied and nonspecific, the diagnosis in clinical practice, remains a challenge for veterinarians. Furthermore, the distribution of these infections includes areas where its tick vector, Rhipicephalus sanguineus is present. This study was designed to evaluate the prevalence and factors associated with the presence of Ehrlichia canis and Anaplasma phagocytophilum in dogs from the central area of Tamaulipas. PCR screened 384 canine blood samples obtained from different veterinary clinics and a shelter. The data were analyzed using the Chi-square test (P level <0.05 for statistical significance). The results showed that 103 (26.8%) out of 384 samples were positive for E. canis, while A. phagocytophilum was not detected. Statistical analysis did not show relationship between E. canis and variables like gender, breed, and origin (P˃0.05). Nonetheless, there was a statistically significant difference between infected adult dogs (15-84 months) compared to other age groups evaluated (p<0.05). Regarding hematocrit, platelets count, plasma protein, total and differential white blood cells counts, none of these parameters were significantly different (P>0.05).","PeriodicalId":7052,"journal":{"name":"Abanico Veterinario","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2021-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46915975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
