The distinctive in-plane homogeneous architecture offers the potential for significant enhancements in both photocharge separation and solar light absorption. Herein, a simple one-pot hydrothermal method was developed to construct in-plane homogeneous BiOCl bicrystals within BiOCl nanosheets (BOC-B). During this process, thiourea plays a pivotal role in introducing dislocations to form bicrystal structure. As expected, the synthesized BOC-B samples exhibited substantially higher photocatalytic degradation activity for TC and RhB compared to BOC. Notably, the mechanism underlying effective solar light absorption and charge carrier separation, driven by the homogeneous bicrystal structure, was elucidated through a series of experimental evidences. This work introduces a novel homogeneous bicrystal structure in BiOCl photocatalysts to optimize catalytic activity, providing a framework for developing new BiOCl-based photocatalysts. • In-plane BiOCl bicrystals were synthesized by a facile one-pot hydrothermal synthesis. • Defect engineering induced interfacial dislocations to form bicrystalline structures. • Dislocation-induced mid-gap states in BiOCl bicrystals can broaden visible light absorption. • In-plane bicrystalline architectures can enhance the electron mobility and charge separation. • The improved photocatalytic removal of TC and RhB was achieved.","PeriodicalId":69154,"journal":{"name":"Nano Materials Science","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147900509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Fe-HCNS@COF displays a high affinity to malachite green (MG) with a distribution coefficient ( K d ) of 6.931, which can be attributed to the confinement effect by the π−π stacking between the benzene ring in MG and triazine ring in COF. Pseudo second order (PSO) kinetics ( R 2 = 0.9914) and Langmuir isotherm model ( R 2 = 0.970 9) match better to Fe-HCNS@COF on MG adsorption indicating a chemisorption with mono-layer interface. Additionally, enhanced catalytic efficiency of the nanospheres on MG reduction at 96.3% was observed under sunlight irradiation with improved reusability after five cycles (74.4%). The catalytic mechanism investigation indicates that 1 O 2 , •O 2 − , and •OH play significant role in the catalytic process, and Fe-HCNS@COF exhibits a smaller E g at 1.53 eV compared to COF (1.86 eV), signifying enhancement for separation of hole-electron pairs. A continuous flow device was established to investigated the real application in dye removal, achieving an 88.7% removal rate for MG degradation after 40 h continuous operation. Moreover, an improved bacterial inhibition rate over 99% was found against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. In conclusion, the as prepared Fe-HCNS@COF provides us a novel nano-platform with multiple-function for the potential application of dye removal in real water management.","PeriodicalId":69154,"journal":{"name":"Nano Materials Science","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147333741","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, on the way to commercialization, the poor conductivity of the positive electrode, the easy dissolution loss of the active substance, and the serious dendrite growth of the negative electrode are stumbling blocks. Therefore, this work designs a novel tungsten and nitrogen-co-doped nanoporous carbon (W,N-C) with multifunction: chemically adsorbs the polysulfides to inhibit shuttling behavior, accelerates Li + transfer, and catalyzes polysulfides redox to address the aforementioned issues of LSBs. As expected at the beginning of the design, the prepared W,N-C-5/S composites cathodes demonstrate excellent performances, i.e., delivering an initial capacity of 944.9 mAh g −1 and a reversible capacity of 771.7 mAh g −1 after 500 cycles at 1 C, significantly outperforming the N-C/S contrast sample. The proposed method offers a feasible solution for boosting the electrochemical performance of LSBs. In this work, a multifunctional W, N co-doped porous carbon (W,N-C) was successfully synthesized using tungsten salt and ramie degumming waste, and used as a sulfur host to accelerate the redox of LiPSs and inhibit the shuttle of LiPSs. The prepared W,N-C-5/S composite cathode can maintain a high reversible capacity of 771.7 mAh g −1 after 500 cycles at a high discharge rate of 1.0C.","PeriodicalId":69154,"journal":{"name":"Nano Materials Science","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147888913","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, its practical application remains limited due to inefficient activation of NO and O 2 , stemming from inadequate structural design of photocatalysts. Herein, we developed a thin-layer two-dimensional (2D) material Bi 2 MoO 6 (BMO) via cetyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (CTAC) addition in synthesis process, which effectively modulates the surface electronic structure, enhance the light absorption and activation of NO and O 2 . This thin-layer Bi 2 MoO 6 nanosheets achieved a NO oxidation efficiency of 45.3 %, which was about 5.5 times that of traditional bulk BMO (8.2 %). Additionally, it demonstrated superior selectivity for NO 2 − /NO 3 − production (86.6 %) compared to bulk BMO (60.5 %) and significantly reduced the formation of toxic NO 2 byproducts (13.4 % vs. 39.5 %). Combining experimental characterizations and density functional theory (DFT) simulations, it demonstrated that the electron-hole pair separation could be promoted and targeted adsorption activation of O 2 can be enhanced to form superoxide radicals (•O 2 − ) and singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) via the effect of surface charge transfer adjustment on the thin-layer structure of Bi 2 MoO 6 , which are key factors affecting the efficiency and selectivity of photocatalytic oxidation of NO. This work provides important insights into the formation of directed ROS and proposes a unique mechanism for selective NO oxidation.","PeriodicalId":69154,"journal":{"name":"Nano Materials Science","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147899492","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Yet, single h-BN incorporated organic coatings with only passive barrier properties fail to provide long-term corrosion protection upon damage without timely repairs. Thus, developing novel anti-corrosive coatings that combine exceptional passive barrier properties with active corrosion-inhibiting capabilities is particularly interesting. Herein, we synthesized h-BN-based nanocontainers by constructing a mesoporous polydopamine layer on the h-BN surface to encapsulate benzotriazole molecules (mBN@BTA), aiming to impart both physical barrier and corrosion-inhibiting effects to h-BN nanosheets. When mBN@BTA nanocontainers are incorporated into epoxy (EP) matrix, the resulting mBN@BTA/EP/steel system exhibits outstanding long-term protective performance under intact status and remarkable corrosion-inhibiting capabilities under damaged status, as demonstrated by high |Z| f = 0.01Hz value of 3.7 × 10 10 Ω cm 2 after 160 d of exposure in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution and low admittance value (7.59 × 10 −8 Ω −1 cm −2 ) in the damaged region.
