Ground wheat grain is replicated as fine biomass base. The experiment is based on voltage application inside a capacitive sensor. This sensor allows the sensing of very small capacitive variation. The sensor is incorporated with an interface sensing circuit based on circular and semi-circular shaped electrode and modified capacitive bridge. Analysis of a particular material's flow sensing behavior has been carried out by evaluating the measurement data and assessing conformity between experimentally obtained and simulated data.","PeriodicalId":6865,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD)","volume":"1 1","pages":"1-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90928735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Statistics show that the growth of internet usage among Malaysians has increased drastically during the last decade. This indicates people's acceptance towards technological developments and their interest towards spending more time online. One of the key sources of obtaining daily information is via newspapers. However, nowadays, publishing companies are facing a real challenge to generate revenues like past due to the availability of free online news. Strong competition in the market requires them to cut down operational costs, decrease price or even offer free newspapers for the readers and mainly rely on an advertisement for their income. In today's internet world, users' interest towards accessing the news around the world has changed to get instant updates rather than waiting for the printed edition to appear the next day. This has paved ways to the popularity of digital editions of newspapers. Usability is one of the key quality attributes that needs to be addressed and emphasized in these digital editions for a better user experience. For this research, five popular online news providers in Malaysia are considered and investigated, particularly for their weaknesses in usability. Based on the comparative study conducted, it was found that all of these digital news providers have deficits in accessibility, especially for disabled and elderly users. Negligible or very limited consideration for such an audience is taken into account in their design. This research aims to propose a modified system design for online newspapers in Malaysia satisfying international usability standards and aiming to provide more convenience for all groups of users while reading online.","PeriodicalId":6865,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD)","volume":"278 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87086959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The quality of public services is mainly depended on government employee or civil servant as actor who is conducted all process of services and is supported by many factors. One of significant factors which influences to employee to give better public services is ensuring welfare of civil servant. To formulate policy or regulation to support welfare of civil servant, stakeholders needed the classification of welfare status of civil servant. This research attempted to define welfare criteria and classify civil servant data based on welfare measurement by utilizing Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) and k-Nearest Neighbours algorithm (k-NN). This research used qualitative approach and quantitative approach in three governmental organizations, i.e. National Civil Service Agency (BKN; Badan Kepegawaian Negara), Ministry for Administrative and Bureaucracy Reform (KemenPAN&RB; Kementrian Pendayagunaan Aparatur Negara dan Reformasi Birokrasi) and National Institute for Administration (LAN; Lembaga Administrasi Negara). As the result, fifteen welfare criteria of civil servant is identified, i.e. current functional position, marital status, current structural position, health allowance, functional allowance, location of office, credit score, job performance, position allowance, appreciation, structural allowance, current age, number of children, year of work, and month of work. This is also successfully classified welfare status of civil servant by using k-NN with 80.87% accuracy prediction.","PeriodicalId":6865,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD)","volume":"28 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83708384","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, concerns on flexibility and infrastructure requirements discourage the widespread implementation of this concept. This project aims to improve the overall experience of a smart home by integrating the Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 wireless communication standard into a standard smart home sensory network. The tasks of the project were centred on the development of a Wi-Fi integrated smart home system with a PIC® microcontroller and a Wi-Fi module as the core components. Additional components such as light-dependent resistor (LDR), temperature sensor, light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and DC motor were included to mimic a real life home environment. A custom designed Android graphical user interface (GUI) application was also developed to enable automated and manual control of the modelled smart home. The final smart home prototype presented the integration of Wi-Fi into a smart home network that grants users with greater flexibility while preserving the existing smart home experience.","PeriodicalId":6865,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD)","volume":"66 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88442079","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The rectenna design consists of a microstrip patch antenna and a rectifier circuit, in which both of them resonate at 2.45 GHz. CST software was used as the simulation tool of the proposed microstrip patch antenna. Then, the designed antenna was fabricated and assembled together, and tested using network Analyzer. The rectifier consists of two tapered microstrip lines, a Schottky diode, a λ/4 microstrip line, a matching microstrip line, and an output low pass filter. The circuit is printed on the substrate of FR4 (εr = 4.3 and h = 1.6 mm). The circuit was designed and optimized using Advance Design System (ADS), then fabricated using micro-strip lines with an FR4 substrate. According to the received wireless power, the values of output DC voltage and power have been measured and the best value of load resistance to harvest maximum output DC power has been selected through simulation.","PeriodicalId":6865,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD)","volume":"32 1","pages":"1-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83361761","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence, to serve customers with high quality electricity, the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system is being used in the distribution system (DS) for power monitoring and control. The SCADA is feed with operation data like current and voltage via Feeder_Remote Terminal_Units (FRTUs). The FRTUs are capable of triggering actions to detach the portion of DS experiencing an unusual condition. Nevertheless, the existing grids do not operate at their optimal capacity due to the usage of one way data communication installations. Thus, to optimize the operation of the legacy power distribution grids, the innovation of the state-of-the-art communication techniques play a vital role-leading to the creation of smart grid Systems. This paper reviews the development of wireless communication technologies envisioned as full-duplex information exchange medium in the on-going development of Smart Grid Systems.","PeriodicalId":6865,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD)","volume":"44 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79744428","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Speed and energy consumption become very vital in design consideration for a low power adder. In this paper, a 4-bit FA using complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology had been designed successfully. A 1-bit hybrid FA (HFA) using 13 transistors (13T) with a new SUM circuit is the basis for the building block of the 4-bits FA. Four HFAs are cascaded together and each HFA is constructed from three modules. Exclusive-OR (XOR) gate of three transistors is the first module. The second one is the new SUM circuit designed using only four transistors to generate the HFA sum. The third module is a special carry circuit with input coming from the first module and several other inputs to generate the HFA carry output. The full adder design is simulated using Tanner EDA version 16 using General Process Design Kit (GPDK) of 250 nm CMOS technology. Performance parameters such as power consumption and delay were compared to some of the existing designs. With a 1.8V voltage supply, the average power consumption of the proposed HFA was found extremely very low which is 2.09 μW and a moderately low delay of 350 ps. As for the 4-bit FA, the average power consumption is 65.37 μW with a delay of 1300 ps.","PeriodicalId":6865,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD)","volume":"11 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75312875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The deposited TNAs were characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer. Self-powered UV photosensor was designed based on photo-electrochemical cells (PEC) using the deposited TNAs as photo anodes. The performance of the fabricated UV photosensor was studied based on its photo-generated current and response under UV irradiation (365 nm). The fabricated UV photosensor displays fast response and recovery time under an ON/OFF state of UV irradiation with comparatively high sensitivity. The photosensor fabricated at the lowest 0.05 M of titanium (IV) butoxide with hydrochloric acid of TNAs exhibits photo-sensing property as photo-anodes, and can be implemented for the application of UV photosensor. Large surface area of TNAs leads to the high generation of photocurrent and shows increment in conductivity under UV irradiation.","PeriodicalId":6865,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD)","volume":"48 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91208056","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

That change had an impact on the loss of potential resources of traditional knowledge. Because of the important of traditional knowledge, many people from government, non-profit organization (NGO) and others attempted to document it into digital form. However, that activity is not fully supported by communication and technology (ICT) infrastructures, e.g. mobile technology, so that process of documentation was not coordinated and integrated well. This research attempted to develop mobile application based on situation in documenting traditional knowledge in Indonesia. The mobile application development was used CommonKADS as methodology with some modifications. As the result, mobile application is successfully designed and represented into six component models, i.e. situation model, agent model, task model, knowledge model, communication model and design model.
