According to the literature, variable frequency drives can save a lot of energy by changing the speed of the electrical motor mechanism (VFDs). The aim of these studies and analyses is to improve the efficiency of the electrical device system by using VFD control techniques. This paper outlines the principle of control mechanisms for induction motor drives, as well as their benefits and drawbacks. This paper is intended to serve as a one-stop shop for researchers interested in the topic. However, there appears to be no comprehensive review of Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) techniques for induction motor (IM) drives to resolve the need for a detailed insight into IM drives. Efficient control policies for induction motor drives provide a great opportunity for energy savings. The ungrounded system is used widely in offshore platforms due to its advantages over the overvoltage whenever a fault occurs in the power systems. Continuous production with less interruption is vital in the oil and gas industry to achieve the production rate target. The grounding system has evolved for the past years and improvements have been made to the ungrounded system that has been around the years in the industry. The ungrounded system has been the best grounding system when the power system needs to maintain its operation with the presence of tolerable fault such as the single line to earth fault. Some facilities have included the feature of tripping the main circuit breaker whenever there is ground fault on the non-critical equipment. This has been unproductive to the operation and time consuming in restarting the plant facility after power failure or shutdown. Kikeh offshore platform is having the same situation whenever the ground fault occurs the main circuit breaker tripped and affects the operation badly. The High Resistance Grounding (HRG) design has proved to be able to sustain the fault and at the same time allows the plant to continue operating without any unnecessary shutdown. This improves the downtime and increases productivity. This paper contains estimated information about the different reasons behind radio link path loss and how radio link path loss influences the entire communications systems, and the best approach to tackle those issues. Radio link path loss happens when the signal propagates from the transmitter to the receiver and when different objects show up in its way. Radio path attenuation is measured in wireless devices to determine signal quality in output power, latency, signal coverage, strengths, throughput, upload, download speed, etc. In this paper, radio link transmission data of three different receiving stations of Bangladesh have been discussed. As expected, the output power and wireless signal propagation speed decrease with the increase of distance between the transmission and receiving sites. Additional dish reflectors can be utilized in the receiving end to increase the efficiency of the long-distance system. Next, we used Ubiquiti Power Beam M5 400 Wireless 150Mbps, a small radio link device, to measure and analyze the signal attenuation at different surrounding mediums, e.g., concrete, glass, wood, trees. Results show that, the radio link path loss is maximum at concrete mediums and insignificant at glass and woods. The efficiency of a photovoltaic (PV) module is mainly affected by ambient irradiance and temperature. Due to the rapid changes in the environmental conditions, MPPT is used to manipulate the operating voltage of PV module to maximize the harvested energy. Conventionally, perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm is introduced to track the maximum power point (MPP). However, due to its inherent fixed size of voltage perturbation, the algorithm has poor transition performance when using small perturbation size while huge power losses in steady-state when using large perturbation size. Thus, fuzzy logic is proposed to auto tune perturbation size improve the transient and steady-state performances of the P&O, or known as FP&O. Both developed FP&O and P&O are coded into microcontrollers and their transition and steady-state performances are tested using the simulated PV platform in Matlab. The results show that the proposed FP&O has improve the overall performance by 61.7 % as compared to the P&O under standard test conditions. Postharvest grading of Calamansi is an arduous task when manually done. Thus an efficient way of grading it according to size, color, maturity, and condition of the fruit is needed to help calamansi farmers, grade and classify them non-destructively with precision and accuracy. The goal of this study is to create a model for classifying Calamansi fruit. The study used ImageJ to measure the size of the fruit before it is run and trained using Convolutional Neural Network. Additionally, two datasets were used during the training of the model. The original dataset contains images with reference objects while the second dataset is a duplicate of the original dataset with the reference object removed from the images. The reference object used is a United States (US) quarter coin with a diameter of 2.1426 cm. The result revealed a 96.67% average accuracy using the original dataset that contains the reference object. Whereas, using the dataset without the reference object yielded a 70.24% accuracy rate. It shows that the size of the fruit could be best measured and produced the highest accuracy rate when a reference object is used. However, to get the matured palm oil bunches, current technology still uses the experience of the harvester in identifying the ripe bunch. The majority of harvesters still use a chisel or long sickle to harvest palm oil bunch from its' tree. They have to determine the ripe bunch from the ground. So, the traditional harvesting method is prone to human error during the determination of the maturity of the palm oil bunch. Thus, this project proposes a real-time ripe palm oil bunch detection using YOLOv3 Algorithm to improve the harvesting process. The pre- processing phase of this project includes data acquisition (collecting palm oil bunch images and videos) and labelling those images based on the respective classes (palm oil maturity level). After the pre-processing phase was completed, the Darknet framework was installed and used for the training and testing phase. The detection model and the dataset were compiled and trained using a pre-trained detection model prepared by the Darknet. A software application was created as a system interface using Python libraries. Tkinter connected it with the Darknet framework using the Darknet command. The outcome of this project's experiment shows that the YOLOv3 Algorithm was able to detect and differentiate the maturity of palm oil bunch's level with learning saturation (overfitting) of 6000th iterations. With every growing complexity of electronics designs, verification process become more time consuming so is the time needed to market the product. Furthermore, commercially available automatic testbench tools are either too costly or not being open source particularly for academic purpose. Hence, automatic testbench generator has been developed with intention to reduce the amount time and effort to generate testbench. This paper presents a method of developing automatic testbench tool that is able to develop VHDL testbenches for asynchronous, synchronous, and finite state machine VHDL design files by incorporating the user input parameters. Furthermore, with addition of GUI, the tool is simple and user friendly that develops VHDL testbench rapidly. The tool also incorporates the testbench coverage feature to indicate effectiveness of the developed testbench by indicating the activity of the design nodes, number of times the nodes are tested and percentage of the code coverage. The smart aquaponic system consists of internet of things (IoT) technology to enable continuous monitoring and autonomous operation. This, however, leads to higher power consumption as compared to the traditional system. Alternatively, the availability of solar resources in tropical countries, such as Malaysia can be utilized to reduce power consumption of the smart aquaponic system. Therefore, this study aims to determine the optimal size of a photovoltaic (PV) system to accommodate the power consumption. This study involves the development of the smart aquaponic using an IoT monitoring and control system. Then, a data logger is developed to collect the power consumption of the smart aquaponic system and measure the available solar energy resources in the area. After that, an optimal size of the PV system can be determined from the collected data. The results show that a 25 W solar panel with a 10 Ah lithium-ion battery is enough to accommodate the developed small-scale smart aquaponic system. However, the all-fiber-based configuration to generate the optical comb signal has a complex fabrication and setup. A gold nanoparticle-polyvinyl alcohol film with Fabry-Perot resonator principle is suggested for optical comb signal generation. The change in cavity distance between the optical fiber tip and gold nanoparticles film modulates the interference pattern with the adjusted extent from 0 µm to 350 µm. Nowadays, the congestion in traffic network is affecting the citizen’s standard of living especially for those who lives in urban area. This phenomenon cannot be avoided due to the increment of population in urban area. The effective and fast way to reduce this problem is by applying traffic lights optimiser at urban traffic network. Hence, high accuracy of traffic model is required to optimise the traffic lights signalisation. Cellular Automata is proposed to model the multiple intersections of urban traffic network system. Microscopic traffic network model is used to model the traffic flow of the traffic network. The vehicle parameters are determined for the computation of traffic condition. The purpose of applying these parameters is to estimate the traffic flow at the intersection more accurately. There are differences in the traffic flow when the vehicles are transferring from one intersection to another. The vehicles tend to decelerate for turning to left or right and accelerate for going straight. Besides, the probability of vehicles transferring to other lanes is required to model the real traffic network condition. Therefore, the modelling of the lane changing behaviour at the intersections has enhanced the precision of the developed model. Traffic light signalisation for the developed model is controlled by Petri Net.
