The tightly confined optical power in such waveguide enables an efficient way to detect tiny changes in the composition of material properties adjacent to the metallic boundary of the plasmonic waveguide. Although Kretschmann configuration has been adopted by several authors, its performance evaluation by the FFT BPM is presented here for the first time to the best of our knowledge. A surface plasmon biosensor based on Kretschmann configuration is studied by this modified FFT-BPM to detect the mosquito-borne dengue virus in the blood.","PeriodicalId":6758,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 8th International Conference on Photonics (ICP)","volume":"55 1","pages":"5-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84874925","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research paper aims to demonstrate the power over fiber (PoF) distribution system network in the short-haul distance, as an alternative to copper-based cable. The maximum efficiency obtained for the full system was 12% at 450 mA of laser driving current. The obtained results clearly demonstrated that as the laser driving current increases from 50 mA to 450 mA, overall efficiency of the system increases. The prototype was designed with a low power output where the main parameter that affects the overall efficiency system is the optical to electrical conversion module. Prototype results demonstrated the potential of PoF for low power distribution system.","PeriodicalId":6758,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 8th International Conference on Photonics (ICP)","volume":"16 1","pages":"101-102"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85863284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sensor was coated with graphene using dip-casting method to detect nitrate at different concentrations ranging from 0 to 50 ppm. The graphene-coated fiber tip sensor was highly sensitive in detecting nitrate ion. When the concentration of the nitrate solution was dropped onto the sensing region, the reflected optical power decreased as the nitrate concentration increased. Without the graphene layer, the uncoated fiber tip sensor only had a sensitivity of 0.0076 dBm/ppm. However, the coated sensor's sensitivity was significantly enhanced to 0.0624 dBm/ppm, eight times higher than the uncoated fiber tip sensor, mainly due to the adsorption of nitrate on the graphene surface. This graphene-coated optical fiber tip sensor has a high potential to be used in nitrate-sensing applications.","PeriodicalId":6758,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 8th International Conference on Photonics (ICP)","volume":"58 1","pages":"3-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88931891","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to rapid growth of PON technologies, researchers have conducted many thorough experiments in order to enhance current PON-base technologies in a form of testbeds. However, most of the studies show that the testbeds have limitations either on its configurability, compactness or cost-efficiency. Hence, this motivates us to propose a lab-scale router testbed in PON architecture by using Raspberry Pi for its promising features and size. The experiments were done in a lab-scale area because the proposed router testbed is to provide a proof-of-concept solution of a reconfigurability router in PON. The results of the experiments are in terms of throughput, end-to-end delay and jitter for both downstream and upstream transmissions. After conducting the experiments, we have come to a conclusion that Raspberry Pis are suitable to be used as lab-scale routers in fiber networking architectures due to their reconfigurability, open source kernel, space-friendly and cost-efficient.","PeriodicalId":6758,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 8th International Conference on Photonics (ICP)","volume":"74 1","pages":"30-31"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80755117","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The model uses the effective index method for modal analysis and takes into account the 2D depletion width across the waveguide to model the PN junction diode. The developed 2D model shows good agreement with numerical TCAD simulation. The model accurately simulates a PN optical phase shifter with variable input parameters viz. wavelength, waveguide dimensions, doping concentrations, PN junction offset, and calculates the phase shift, modulation efficiency, absorption loss, and insertion loss.","PeriodicalId":6758,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 8th International Conference on Photonics (ICP)","volume":"59 1","pages":"97-98"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80729530","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By adjusting the amplitude of the modulation signal and the DC voltage supplied to the modulators, 7 comb lines with 1.15 dB flatness can be generated. An ideal 1×2 electrical splitter is used to split the RF (radio frequency) modulation signal ideally, so that both modulators are supplied with the same amplitude and frequency. In case using 90° hybrid coupler as a splitter, both modulators received different frequencies due to the 90-degree phase shift and the output was 3 and 5 comb lines with a corresponding flatness of 0.31 dB and 3 dB, respectively. Biasing was at the quadrature point to achieve linear modulation and avoid output optical distortion from the nonlinear region of MZM transfer function. The scheme is simple and cost-effective using only one signal generator, and it can be used mostly for analog optical links applications.","PeriodicalId":6758,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 8th International Conference on Photonics (ICP)","volume":"81 1","pages":"82-83"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76721294","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Graphene also has high carrier mobility, making it suitable for optoelectronic applications. Lithium niobate is a polar crystal with a high pyroelectric coefficient. The laser absorbed by lithium niobate is converted into heat, and the change in temperature causes spontaneous polarization of the lithium niobate. The lithium niobate pyroelectric polarization induces the surface free electric charge to enter the graphene, and changes the Fermi level of the graphene, thereby improving the photoelectric performance of the device. In this work, the photodetector shows a responsivity of $sim 2.12times 10^{6}mathrm{A}/mathrm{W}$ at 22pw incident power, high detectivity of 6.29 $times 10^{14}$ Jones and wide detection rang from visible to near infrared.
