The sample is first placed into a waveguide, completely filling its cross-section. Then a portion of the sample is fit into a reduced-step guide. The two measured reflection coefficients provide sufficient information to obtain both the complex permittivity and permeability of the sample. The performance of reflectarray unit cells is evaluated in terms of reflection loss and phase sensitivity. The analysis is demonstrated in three planes of interest, where extremes in performance are likely to occur. Unit cell illuminated by an incident wave with varying angles of arrival is shown to have different coupling conditions and reflection properties. Anomalous phase responses are observed for particular incident angle and polarization of the incident wave. To numerically analyze the influence of the defected nano-scale structures with high accuracy and efficiency, we have developed a boundary integral spectral element method (BI-SEM) that combines the SEM with a set of surface integral equations. The SEM is used to solve the interior computational domain, while the open boundaries are truncated by the surface integral equations. The antenna provides the capability of controlling both of the frequency bands, while ensuring an extended spurious-free stopband. The antenna is designed to operate at UMTS and WLAN frequencies of 2.1 GHz and 2.4 GHz, respectively. The antenna dimensions are only 2 × 2 cm2, which is 50%smaller compared to a conventional half-wavelength patch antenna operating at the same frequencies. This paper presents a two element semi-ring multiband compact MIMO antenna having a total size of 32×38×0.76mm3. The natural high input impedance of the semi-ring is matched by a gap loaded capacitance along with double stub matching provided by the inner half ring. The antenna can cover both 1.8GHz and 2.4GHz bands with efficiencies of 43% and 54.4%, respectively. The gains at the two bands were 0.34dB and 1.56dB, respectively.
