However, these substrates are expensive, only available in small sizes and have low thermal conductivity. Integration of III-Vs onto silicon substrates offers the opportunity to overcome these shortcomings and opens the possibility of new applications in lab-on-chip MIR photonic integrated circuits. However, the unusual III-V/Si interface and large lattice mismatch presents challenges to epitaxial growth. Here, we report on novel techniques employed to grow high quality Sb-based optoelectronic devices on silicon using molecular beam epitaxy.","PeriodicalId":6657,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Photonics Conference (IPC) Part II","volume":"8 1","pages":"307-308"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81034308","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The PIC containing DBR lasers and photodiodes is integrated with low frequency electronics to create an OPLL, which functions as a highly selective optical filter with sub-GHz bandwidth and 50dB out-of-band suppression. The OPLL output is a single tone coherent with the comb line, whose optical power is 6dB higher than the selected input line, and whose frequency can be offset from the input line by an agile and precisely defined frequency.","PeriodicalId":6657,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Photonics Conference (IPC) Part II","volume":"37 1","pages":"1-2"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86566176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By properly selecting the material and geometrical parameters, we demonstrate that such gratings can operate as switchable beam splitters, beam steerers, quarter-wave plates, and narrowband guided-mode resonant filters. The switching dynamics of the proposed components are also investigated by employing a tensorial formulation for the liquid-crystal orientation problem, which is coupled with the lightwave propagation studies in a multiphysics environment based on the finite-element method.","PeriodicalId":6657,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Photonics Conference (IPC) Part II","volume":"166 1","pages":"597-598"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74859525","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
