Winding loss with considering dc and ac components of flowing current, and core loss under dc bias application were calculated using Dowell’s equation and improved Generalized Steinmetz equation (iGSE) with modification factors for dc bias. The calculated losses were verified by experiments using a 2 kW-class quasi Z-source inverter (QZSI). It is confirmed that the inductor loss is mainly caused by dc winding resistance in the discussed design, and the frequency of the main ac component of the inductor current differs from control frequency. These calculation results have good agreement with the experimental results. Therefore, it is concluded that the discussed loss calculation method can be used to design an optimal inductor for given modulation strategy and control frequency.","PeriodicalId":6610,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Niigata 2018 -ECCE Asia)","volume":"65 1","pages":"1111-1117"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89945626","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The semifull-bridge submodule comprises two capacitors that are connected in either series or parallel to generate a positive voltage, while the capacitors are connected only in parallel to generate a negative voltage. A capacitor voltage difference appearing between two capacitors during the series connection period is inevitable due to the capacitance mismatch. This results in a large current spike during the parallel connection period. The paper evaluates the effect of the differential-mode choke, increased modulation index, and second-order harmonic injection. Numerical analysis indicate that the differential-mode choke can provide significant reduction in the peak current during parallel connection of the capacitors. The numerical results are validated by simulation results from a single semi-full-bridge module as well as a full converter. It is concluded that with proper control and dimensioning of the submodule capacitors and differential-mode choke, the current-spike can be reduced to levels in the same range as the peak arm current.","PeriodicalId":6610,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Niigata 2018 -ECCE Asia)","volume":"20 1","pages":"2335-2342"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86207808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This model is based on the voltage charging data of a Li-Ion battery. By the voltage characteristic of charging data that have been used as a parameter to describe the actual quantity of energy, which is a key factor in applications. This estimation is an important and challenging task. The upcoming Electric Vehicle (EV) or Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), are becoming the most important technology in transportation, because of the Eco-friendly and its increasing driving autonomy. The battery performance directly influences the total performance and efficiency of the BMS for this kind of vehicles. As already confirmed the importance of the battery state of charge (SOC) prediction and the nonlinear characteristic between the battery SOC and the external variables, the neural network model is proposed in order to investigate further. In this approach, the ANN can predict the characteristic of the charging model from the batteries, with the optimized model it can be simulated within a short time and with a high accuracy. Which is a different type of approach to the difficult task of SOC of the battery.","PeriodicalId":6610,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Niigata 2018 -ECCE Asia)","volume":"6 1","pages":"3170-3175"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88878623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During the transient process, there might be dc bias current and overshoot current arising in the inductor and transformer due to improper transient modulation. A dedicated transient modulation method is then proposed, which adjusts all phase-shift ratios by referring to a floating reference gating signal. Consequently a fast transient response can be obtained without dc bias current and overshoot current. The dynamic movement of the floating reference signal can be determined easily by a uniformed expression irrespective of the different steady state operation modes. The proposed transient control has been proved through simulation and experimental results.","PeriodicalId":6610,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Niigata 2018 -ECCE Asia)","volume":" 1","pages":"370-374"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72560934","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The MIMO system with the couplings between the α-axis and β-axis components complicates the stability analysis and current controller design. This paper thus presents a modeling method that decomposes the MIMO system into two single-input single-output (SISO) transfer functions, which enables to use the classical SISO system tools for the dynamic analysis and controller design. Time-domain simulations and experiments are performed and the results validate the effectiveness of the approach.","PeriodicalId":6610,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Niigata 2018 -ECCE Asia)","volume":"6 1","pages":"3164-3169"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80602098","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the grid-connected DG system, the islanding detection function is essential to avoid dangers. However, the existing islanding detection techniques have non-detection zone (NDZ) which is easily affected by local load conditions. This paper proposes a novel islanding detection method integrating with a two-stage magnification inspection approach to facilitate diagnostics of islanding detection in DG systems. Based on the proposed method, the detection time is shortened with NDZ eliminated effectively. Besides, the possibility of malfunction and impact of load conditions are greatly reduced. The proposed method doesn’t need precise parameter setting for different applications. To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method, a grid-connected prototype lab system with ratings of 250 W rated power and 200 Vdc/110 Vac voltage is simulated and implemented, a system which involves different load conditions and interference tests. The results indicate that the proposed method can operate reliably and satisfy the IEEE 1547 standard.","PeriodicalId":6610,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Niigata 2018 -ECCE Asia)","volume":"115 1","pages":"4233-4238"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80627363","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Owing to the nature of the process, it was necessary to analyze the no-load characteristics of the LLC resonant converter because the plasma power supply has an initial no-load operation. The conventional method for analyzing the characteristics of an LLC resonant converter shows the characteristics of the load condition well, but it is difficult to analyze the characteristics of the no-load condition. Therefore, this study analyzed the no-load characteristics of an LLC resonant converter as a method to consider parasitic components and analyzed them in the time domain. It also describes the control method with a duty ratio by the phase shift for operating the LLC resonant converter as a power supply for the plasma process through the analysis results.","PeriodicalId":6610,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Niigata 2018 -ECCE Asia)","volume":"25 1","pages":"114-117"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81141951","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Compared to the conventional series resonant converter (SRC), a dual-mode rectifier (DMR) is configured on the secondary side, which allows the proposed converter to achieve a wider gain range with a fixed-frequency phase-shift control. Moreover, the active switches and diodes are turned on with zero-voltage switching (ZVS) and off with zero-current switching (ZCS), respectively, thereby minimizing the switching losses. The operation principle is firstly detailed and then the converter characteristics are analyzed and compared. Finally, a 400-kHz 250-W converter prototype is built and tested to verify the advantages of the proposed converter.","PeriodicalId":6610,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Power Electronics Conference (IPEC-Niigata 2018 -ECCE Asia)","volume":"64 1","pages":"1788-1792"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84364091","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
