As the number of devices increases, the network traffic load also increases. Upon reaching the point of saturation of network traffic load, the performance of the system degrades. In this paper, a communication architecture allowing these devices to communicate with each other and human machine interface (HMI) with high network traffic saturation point is introduced. The system is designed to comply with IEC 61850 and is thus divided into three levels: a) the station level, b) the bay control level, and c) the field level. The station level consists of HMI, control devices are placed in the bay control level and field level comprise of the actual measurement and protection devices. With the help of UML, we describe the functionality of the main components and the message exchange process. Using OMNET++, we developed a network simulation model and evaluated the network performance for maximum traffic load. We also discuss the effect of traffic load on the system's performance.","PeriodicalId":6470,"journal":{"name":"2016 Electric Power Quality and Supply Reliability (PQ)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78587231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An optimal droop control approach for DC/DC Boost power converter is designed based on Genetic Algorithm (GA). This approach helps us to minimize the cost function in order to improve voltage regulation while the power loss is low as much as possible. The proposed method only requires local output information; hence the advantages of traditional droop control are preserved. The performance of the proposed optimal droop method is compared with that of the traditional droop method and its out performance is further verified by simulation in MATLAB/ SimPowerSystems Software. This approach is better than the traditional droop control in bus voltage regulation and equal power sharing, under load changing between minimum and maximum load values. Another advantage of this approach is its lower dependence on the mathematical model of the network.","PeriodicalId":6470,"journal":{"name":"2016 Electric Power Quality and Supply Reliability (PQ)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79772617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Significant part of overvoltages is caused by switching off the high inductive load, such as transformers, reactors and electrical machines. This paper is dedicated to vacuum circuit breakers switching off process modeling in Simulink MATLAB for the purpose of power quality problems estimation. Model of the vacuum circuit breaker implements simulation of transient recovery voltage, current chopping and electrical arc. Developed model was used for simulation of overvoltage on example of mine electric power system. Obtained results were compared to available experimental data.","PeriodicalId":6470,"journal":{"name":"2016 Electric Power Quality and Supply Reliability (PQ)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79318841","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Parallel operation of a bipolar high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) power transmission system with the 380-kV alternating-current (AC) power transmission systems on the same line route can be seen as one of the solutions for the increasing of the power transmission capability. One of possible realizations of this solution is the use of so-called hybrid AC/DC overhead transmission lines containing EHV AC and HVDC power circuits on the same pylons. Consequences of this are various AC/DC interaction phenomena. The paper deals with the AC impact on the DC power circuits switched off for maintenance purposes.","PeriodicalId":6470,"journal":{"name":"2016 Electric Power Quality and Supply Reliability (PQ)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90568847","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The advantages of the resonance neutral earthing are based mainly on the very low single-pole fault current, the residual earth fault current IRES. The growing use of both, cables and power electronics, increases the residual earth fault current IRES. In the case of a single-pole earth fault, harmonic components in residual earth fault current IRES can reach values, which can violate the limits defined by standards. Up to now, the estimation of the residual earth fault current IRES is usually done with measurements in the field by solid grounding of one phase at the bus bar in the substation. However, these measurements do not correspond to the real fault conditions. Ground faults occur anywhere in the network with relatively high fault resistances. In this paper a new method is presented to enable an accurate estimation of the residual earth fault current IRES during the earth fault by using the harmonics measurement of the voltages during the healthy state of the network, the network configuration and the expected impedance at the fault location. The results of the new method were verified in real field tests and will be also presented in this paper.","PeriodicalId":6470,"journal":{"name":"2016 Electric Power Quality and Supply Reliability (PQ)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84966131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Transient faults may cause system splits dividing it into weaker asynchronous subsystems. These possible fault events may result in power deficits exceeding the incident of dimensioning, which ultimately cause high gradients in the subsystems' frequency. Emerging HVDC links may contribute towards maintaining system stability. Due to their ability to transmit power between asynchronous systems a supplementary frequency control may be applied to support either of the connected systems. In this paper a suitable frequency controller for such events is implemented and the resulting system's behavior is analyzed. It is shown that the applied controller design successfully supports frequency stability of the system. In addition the effects of various input signals and the available transfer capacity of the HVDC is evaluated.","PeriodicalId":6470,"journal":{"name":"2016 Electric Power Quality and Supply Reliability (PQ)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83699243","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Permissible loading level determination of the operating MV cables from the heating point of view is affected by many variable factors such as ambient environment, temperature, number and configuration of the cables etc. To estimate the temperature characteristics in dependence of load current of the operating MV cables in the real environment at different climatic and ambient environments (cable channels, ladders, soil and pipes) in the cities of Latvia a special MV cable sheath and ambient environment temperature monitoring device is designed. Sheath and ambient environment temperature monitoring of nine 10 kV and 20 kV cables at four ST 110/10-20 kV substations is carried out for a period of one year. By analyzing the acquired temperature monitoring data, dynamics of the cable sheath temperature in dependence of load current, ambient environment and temperature is determined. A mathematical model for maximum achievable MV cable sheath temperature prediction is developed.","PeriodicalId":6470,"journal":{"name":"2016 Electric Power Quality and Supply Reliability (PQ)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88185994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It involves the acquisition of better signal wave forms at the output and the reduction of all oscillations (in case of electric drives, we consider speed variation, torque variation, current variation for all the three phases ore more) in comparison with the classic control procedures. This paper presents two case studies of two FLCs applied for some exterior permanent magnet synchronous machines, PMSM. One fuzzy logic algorithm has 25 rules and the other has 49 rules. These FLCs are developed for less computational issues, which make them suitable for real time implementation. The permanent magnet synchronous machines are used today in state of the art drives due to their dynamic performances. It is known that PMSM has a high torque density, with reduced losses/torque rates, a high power factor and a quick torque and speed time response. All the references concerning the real time implementation are made on the digital signal processor controller board type DS1104.","PeriodicalId":6470,"journal":{"name":"2016 Electric Power Quality and Supply Reliability (PQ)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76113770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
