To take into account the dispersion, the Condon model together with Tellegen's definition of chiral media is used for the frequency dependence of three parameters (permittivity, permeability and chirality). We also consider the equivalent permittivity and permeability of isotropic chiral media which is frequency dependent. As a generalized case, gyrotropic chiral media is studied since the gyrotropic parameters in epsilowbar and mulowbar tensors favor the realization of DNG and negative-index materials (NIM)","PeriodicalId":6423,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium","volume":"36 1","pages":"471-474"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79810107","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In microstrip antenna various types of fields are produced, out of these very few are responsible for producing far field radiations or useful radiations. In this paper methods are discussed to enhance the useful (which produce far field radiations) fields by making the size of ground plane smaller than radiating patch. This increases the bandwidth to a very large extent. An antenna is designed to give bandwidth from 0.5 GHz to 6.8 GHz using only ground and radiating patch. Effect of using slotted ground on the bandwidth is also observed using Sierpinski gasket antenna. A new C-type single feed is explored for this purposes. Then a CPSMA is integrated with a quasi-planar short horn to enhance its gain. Our results indicate that it is possible to increase the gain by 4.5 dB without compromising the 3 dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth or the 10 dB return loss bandwidth of the CPSMA. The final design has a gain of 11.5 dBi, 3 dB AR bandwidth of 15.2%, minimum AR of 0.27 dB and a 10 dB return loss bandwidth of 21.5%.
