THz emission is an order of magnitude higher from cylindrical micro-lens array compared to circular micro-lens array, at the same bias voltage. Laser processing of diamond discs allows the artificial formation of grooves on diamond disc surfaces. A potential application is the design of windows with a surface finish offering an increased bandwidth. As grooves with sharp edges and corners might lead to local stress accumulation beyond tolerable limits, the method has been checked by FEM analyses. This is particularly the case for the mechanism of optical rectification. Early work in the area was concerned with simple geometric arrangements, such as normal incidence of the pump radiation on the emitter surface, and low-index crystal faces, such as (001), (011), and (111). In this paper the general problem will be described for arbitrary angles of incidence and detection relative to the emitter crystal axes.
