This requires a measurement framework which allows for the collection of metrics from multiple dimensions at the same time. Morley Mao","doi":"10.1145/3349621.3355733","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1145/3349621.3355733","url":null,"abstract":"The multi-Gbps bandwidth offered by 60GHz millimeter-wave (mmWave) links has enabled a wide range of applications such as untethered virtual reality, fast file synchronization, and uncompressed video streaming. To provide these applications with high network utilization while preventing overload, TCP congestion control (CC) determines the data sending rate to achieve high throughput and/or low delay. CC over highly fluctuating 60GHz networks is extremely challenging -- the high directionality and small wavelength of mmWave make it vulnerable to mobility and blockage. Despite numerous studies on CC in WiFi/LTE, CC in 60GHz remains underexplored. To the best of our knowledge, the only related work on CC in mmWave is~citezhang2016transport. However, it's simulation-based and focuses on 28GHz mmWave cellular. Also, it only looks at loss-based CC algorithms and limited scenarios. We close this gap with a first experimental study that comprehensively evaluates the CC performance over commercial 60GHz WLAN using COTS devices. Our study aims to characterize the behavior and performance of different CC algorithms over 60GHz in a wide range of real-world mobility and blockage scenarios. Over the years, sensing using RF has explored different application domains wherein RF sensing is used dedicatedly for sensing and may or may not be used for productive wireless communication concurrently. In this talk, I would present active and passive RF sensing platforms, wherein active approaches require a transmitter to transmit the signal and measure reflections to perceive the environment and passive relies on ambient transmissions. Furthermore, the platforms I would describe inherently allows for concurrent productive communication for both active and passive sensing. To reduce the time to market, carriers utilize 5G NR for data plane operations while retaining the existing 4G infrastructure for control plane operations in what is called NSA (Non-Standalone) deployment mode defined as 5G system Phase I. EN-DC is a core technology of NSA 5G which supports the introduction of 5G services under 4G infrastructure. It enables a UE to connect to LTE and NR at the same time whereas the control plane connection is handled by LTE infrastructure. In this case, the UE will have only one single RRC state machine. Note that LTE RRC state machine contains RRC_CONNECTED and RRC_IDLE with different DRX settings while NR RRC has an additional state called RRC_INACTIVE. In this context, we present a time-shifted prefetching solution that prefetches content during off-peak periods of network connectivity. We specifically focus on YouTube as it represents a significant portion of overall cellular data-usage.
