It speaks the volume of liquid contained in a special measuring cup in metric or English units. The volume of liquid present in the cup is measured by allowing the liquid to rise between two concentric cylinders which form a capacitor. The height, and hence volume, of the liquid is then proportional to the change in capacitance of the plates. A second set of plates at the bottom of the cup measures the dielectric constant of the liquid, permitting volume to be determined independently of the dielectric constant of the liquid. All measurements and instructions are spoken. It is accurate to 4% of the measurement for volumes from 10 ml to 1 liter.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":57507,"journal":{"name":"残疾人发展理论研究","volume":"52 1","pages":"194-196"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83965063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It enables real-time telephone sign language communication. It operates on a 32-bit portable computer system with standard modem communication capabilities. TeleSign consists of an instrumented glove worn on the dominant hand of each signing participant. The glove measures the position and motion of the fingers. In addition, an absolute position and orientation sensor is worn on both wrists of each signer. The finger, hand, and wrist data from one signer are used to construct a corresponding dynamic three-dimensional graphic image of the hand and arm (in second-person perspective) on the computer screen of a second signer. On the screen the graphic hands and arms move in front of a graphic image of a human head and torso to provide position reference.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":57507,"journal":{"name":"残疾人发展理论研究","volume":"77 1","pages":"2-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76224680","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One switch is used to change between mobility, communication, environmental control, and telephone. Depending on ability, proportional input or a single switch is used to control the operation of the selected device. Even with nonverbal children, however, efforts can be made to convey the concept of expressive language by encouraging the child to indicate his desire for an object (food, toy) by touching a photograph of the object. One valuable heuristic to speed learning is to trigger an electronic voice message each time a picture is touched. WeeTalk is an electronic voice recorder aimed specifically at this application.
