The nest was situated in a grey poplar tree 1 5-20 m above the ground in a treebuffer by the rivulet Okna, in open lowland landscape without woodland, just with linear tree vegetation and scattered trees. In 2011 incubation of the clutch was observed and the female was present in the nest even at the end ofApril, when the fledglings were probably already present in the nest, but no more data on their further success were obtained. In 201 2 the pair of Eurasian eagle owls bred in the same nest again, but in May the nest was already abandoned and we suppose predation of the clutch, probably by ravens. This occasion is the third known breeding attempt by the Eurasian eagle owl in a raptor nest built in a tree, and the first known occasion of breeding in a white-tailed eagles’ nest in Slovakia. The obtained data also document the further spreading of the species in the Dolný Zemplín region into unusual habitats of a lowland agricultural landscape with very few trees. Abstrakt V rokoch 2011 a 201 2 bolo zistené hniezdenie páru výra skalného v starom hniezde orliaka morského pri Blatnej Polianke v CHVÚ Senianske rybníky. Hniezdo sa nachádzalo na topoli sivom 1 5-20 m vysoko v brehovom poraste riecky Okna, v nížinatej otvorenej krajine bez lesov, len s pásmi líniovej zelene a roztrúsenými stromami. V roku 2011 bola pozorovaná inkubácia znášky a samica bola prítomná v hniezde ešte aj koncom apríla, kedy už boli pravdepodobne vyliahnuté aj mládatá, ale bližšie údaje o úspešnosti hniezdenia neboli zistené. V roku 201 2 hniezdil pár výrov v tom istom hniezde, ale v máji bolo už opustené a predpokladáme znicenie znášky krkavcami. Jedná sa o tretí známy prípad hniezdenia výra v dravcom hniezde a o prvý známy prípad hniezdenia výra v hniezde orliaka z územia Slovenska. Súcasne potvrdzujeme týmito údajmi šírenie sa výra na Dolnom Zemplíne do doteraz netypických biotopov v agrocenózach.","PeriodicalId":56343,"journal":{"name":"Slovak Raptor Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79509846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sighting was documented with photographs. This is the first recorded occurrence of this species in terms of the bird fauna of Slovakia. The present article describes in detail its distribution and breeding in eastern Hungary and western Romania, based on an isolated population in the Pannonian Basin at the north-western edge of its breeding range. The occurrence of the Levant sparrowhawk beyond the boundaries of its breeding range and outside the Pannonian Basin consists mostly of rare movements by young individuals (northern Moravia, central and northern Poland) far north of its breeding range. An adult male was observed in south-eastern Poland in the pre-breeding period, and in Slovakia an adult female was observed in the breeding period. Abstrakt Dna 1 5. mája 201 2 bol na južnom okraji mesta Trebišov na východnom Slovensku v orografickom celku Východoslovenská rovina pozorovaný jastrab krátkoprstý. Je to prvý zaznamenaný, zároven fotograficky dokumentovaný, výskyt tohto druhu pre avifaunu Slovenska. V texte je podrobnejšie opísaný jeho výskyt a hniezdenie vo východnom Madarsku a západnom Rumunsku, kde žije izolovaná populácia v Panónskej panve na severozápade jeho hniezdneho rozšírenia. Výskyty jastraba krátkoprstého mimo hniezdneho areálu a mimo Panónskej panvy predstavujú zriedkavé zálety mladých jedincov (severná Morava, stredné a severné Polsko) na sever od hniezdneho rozšírenia. Na juhovýchode Polska sa vyskytol dospelý samec v predhniezdnom a na Slovensku dospelá samica v hniezdnom období.","PeriodicalId":56343,"journal":{"name":"Slovak Raptor Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84074670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We supposed that similar patterns might be found in the diet spectra of insectivorous birds. The diet composition of the insectivorous scops owl was studied by analysing the prey remnants collected from 21 nests during 2008-2009 in an extensively cultivated rural area in the centre of the owl’s distribution range in Central Romania. Altogether 831 prey items belonging to 45 prey taxa were identified. Similarly to the other parts of the scops owl range, orthopterans were high dominant prey items (86.8%) - especially bush-crickets Tettigoniidae (78.6%). In food samles were found also beetles (Coleoptera, 5.7%) and rarely spiders Araneidea, moths Lepidoptera, mantids Mantodea, Hymenoptera and Neuroptera (<1 .5%). Vertebrates were rarely represented by rodents (2.5%) and passerines (1 .3%). The following diagnostic prey species were identified in 20 nests using the MDFM method: bush-crickets Tettigonia viridissima, Decticus verrucivorus, Metrioptera bicolor and other species of the family Tettigoniidae, the beetle Onthophagus spp., the cricket Gryllus campestris and other unidentified beetles Coleoptera g. sp. Furthermore, the scops owl’s diet in different parts of its range was compared. As expected, there were more Orthoptera and generally more prey taxa in food in the range centre than at its northern limit. Abstrakt Diverzita hmyzu negatívne koreluje so stúpajúcou intenzitou obhospodarovania trávnatých plôch a so zemepisnou šírkou. Predpokladali sme, že podobný model môže fungovat aj v prípade potravného spektra hmyzožravých vtákov. Zistovali sme potravné zloženie hmyzožravého výrika lesného skúmaním potravných zvyškov z 21 hniezd v rokoch 2008-2009. Sledované lokality sa nachádzajú v extenzívne využívanej vidieckej krajine v centre areálu rozšírenia, v strednom Rumunsku. V potrave sa zistilo spolu 831 kusov koristi patriacich do 45 taxónov. Podobne ako v ostatných castiach areálu výrika, rovnokrídlovce (Orthoptera) boli v potrave vysoko dominantné (86,8 %), a to hlavne druhy celade Tettigoniidae (78,6 %). V potravných vzorkách boli nájdené tiež chrobáky (Coleoptera, 5,7 %), zriedkavejšie pavúky Araneidae, mory Lepidoptera, modlivky Mantodea, blanokrídlovce Hymenoptera a sietokrídlovce Neuroptera (<1 ,5 %). Stavovce boli zriedkavo zastúpené hlodavcami (2,5 %) a spevavcami (1 ,3 %). Pomocou metódy MDFM boli v 20 hniezdach identifikované ako diagnostické druhy nasledujúce: kobylky Tettigonia viridissima, Decticus verrucivorus, Metrioptera bicolour a dalšie druhy celade Tettigoniidae, chrobáky Onthophagus spp., svrcky Gryllus campestris a dalšie neidentifikovatelné chrobáky (Coleoptera g. sp.). Okrem toho sme porovnali potravné zloženie výrika lesného v jednotlivých castiach jeho areálu. Ako sme ocakávali, v centre areálu sme zistili viac rovnokrídlovcov a všeobecne viac taxónov koristi v potrave výrikov ako na severnej hranici jeho ","PeriodicalId":56343,"journal":{"name":"Slovak Raptor Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79126156","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From the first half of the 20th century it began to expand to the north, and at the end of 201 2 the northern boundary of its breeding expansion in south-eastern Europe extended to central Hungary, south-western Romania, Romanian Dobruja, the southern half of Ukraine and along the western border of Kazakhstan. In the work are 232 faunistic data on the occurrence of the species on the territory of Slovakia from the year 1 870 to the end of 201 2. In the period from 1 911-1 950 only 7 cases were found here; from the period 1 951-2000 43 observations exist, and for the short period from 2001-201 2 there are as many as 1 80, of which 98 occurred in the year 201 2 alone. The text in particular evaluates the invasive occurrence of the species in 201 2 in Slovakia and its neighbouring countries (Austria, Czech Republic and Poland). Given this increasing trend in the frequency of occurrence of the long-legged buzzard in Slovakia, its breeding on the territory of Slovakia in the near future can be anticipated, though by the end of 201 2 this had not yet to be confirmed. Abstrakt Myšiak hrdzavý hniezdil v 1 9. storocí na Balkánskom polostrove len v Grécku. Od prvej polovice 20. storocia sa zacal šírit severným smerom a do konca roka 201 2 severná hranica jeho hniezdneho rozšírenia v juhovýchodnej Európe dosiahla po stredné Madarsko, juhozápadné Rumunsko, rumunskú Dobrudžu, južnú polovicu Ukrajiny a po západnú hranicu Kazachstanu. V práci je zhrnutých 232 faunistických údajov o výskyte druhu na území Slovenska od roku 1 870 do konca roku 201 2. V období rokov 1 911-1 950 bol tu zistený len v 7 prípadoch, z obdobia rokov 1 951-2000 už existuje 43 pozorovaní a za krátke obdobie rokov 2001-201 2 až 1 80, z coho len v roku 201 2 to bolo 98 pozorovaní. Na základe uvedeného rastúceho trendu pocetnosti výskytov myšiaka hrdzavého na Slovensku možno predpokladat v blízkej budúcnosti jeho hniezdenie aj na území Slovenska, do konca roka 201 2 ešte nebolo potvrdené","PeriodicalId":56343,"journal":{"name":"Slovak Raptor Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82752192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
