Understanding the genetic control of these traits is essential to help breeders in the selection process. The aim of this study was to evaluate the inheritance of sucrose accumulation and soluble solids content in melon. A randomized block design with three replicates was used to evaluate AC-16 and Vedrantais parents, and F1, F2, BC1 and BC2 generations. We verified that sucrose is the main factor which is related to genetic and environmental variability observed in sugar content between parents. The inheritance of sucrose content involves a major effect gene with additive and dominance effects associated with polygenes with additive effects. The inheritance of soluble solids involves a major gene with additive and dominance effects associated with polygenes, with additive effects, and the presence of epistasis.","PeriodicalId":56307,"journal":{"name":"Horticultura Brasileira","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42862916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, in order to identify the best population level for inoculum of the root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita) for maximum expression of symptoms of this nematode attack on carrots, an experiment was carried out to evaluate the carrot cultivar Brasília (CBR) and the population Pop-750 (CRO). The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse at Embrapa Vegetable, Brasília-DF, in 5 L pots, with six replications, in a 4x2 factorial scheme in a completely randomized design, in the dosages of 0, 1, 5 and 10 thousand eggs and occasional juveniles of 2nd stage (E+J2R). ‘Rutgers’ susceptible tomato cultivar was used as control to verify inoculum efficiency. Inoculation was carried out 30 days after sowing and evaluation 60 days after inoculation. Gall index (GI), egg mass index (EMI), number of eggs plus occasional second stage juveniles per gram of root (E+J2R) and reproduction factor (RF) were performed. There were differences between genotypes and between inoculum levels for all variables evaluated. For CRO, inoculum levels of M. incognita from 1,000 E+J2 the plants already manifested symptoms and changes in all evaluated variables, with ideal levels around 5 to 7 thousand E+J2R, above 7 thousand E+J2R nematode multiplication to express symptoms decreased. For CBR the response variables E+J2 at root and RF inoculum levels close to 5 thousand E+J2R also present the best results, but when the characterization is based on the evaluation of GI and EMI, suitable inoculum levels would be close to 9 and 12 thousand E+J2R.","PeriodicalId":56307,"journal":{"name":"Horticultura Brasileira","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46880811","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Uma estratégia para atender a essa expansão da demanda e reduzir a pressão sobre a produção de alimentos é minimizar o desperdício de alimentos. O objetivo deste trabalho é avaliar se a combinação de práticas operacionais e gerenciais nas etapas da logística e comercialização de frutas e vegetais estão associadas aos menores níveis de desperdício no setor atacadista. Foram analisados cinco produtos do grupo de frutas e hortaliças: alface, batata, laranja, mamão e tomate, vendidos por atacadistas da Central de Abastecimento de Alimentos (CEASA). Foram utilizadas a análise de componentes principais e as regras de associação para reconhecer a inter-relação das práticas que promovem a redução de desperdícios. O desperdício autorreferido de mamão e batata foi de 5,8%, para alface 22,5%, tomate 3,3% e laranja 2,2%. Foram identificadas treze práticas e comportamentos que explicam 100% da variância, e que estão associadas ao componente tecnológico e ao componente de comercialização. Com base nas regras da associação, a elevada frequência de oito práticas, como a prestação de serviços de apoio ao cliente e a utilização de câmaras frigoríficas, está relacionada com a redução do desperdício de frutas e vegetais.","PeriodicalId":56307,"journal":{"name":"Horticultura Brasileira","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46332752","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thirty-five quantitative traits were evaluated, encompassing 29 morphoagronomic and six physiological characteristics. Principal component analysis (PCA) was performed. Tocher’s optimization method was used based on the Mahalanobis distance and the graphic dispersion of canonical variables, which followed the same trend of genotype clustering, forming three distinct groups. The PCA indicated some genetic divergences not shown by the other methods. A high divergence was observed among the species accessions and interspecific hybrids. The cultivar Redenção had the greatest genetic dissimilarity, and the interspecific hybrids of S. lycopersicum with wild accessions showed the greatest morphoagronomic and physiological similarity with the wild parents.","PeriodicalId":56307,"journal":{"name":"Horticultura Brasileira","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48224828","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this sense, the objective of this study was to estimate the repeatability coefficient and the number of measurements necessary for the analysis of characters of production of zucchini, cucumber, pout pepper and pea. In the experiments carried out with zucchini and cucumber the variables number of fruits, fruit mass, fruit length, largest fruit diameter and smallest fruit diameter were evaluated. For pea the number, length and mass of pods, number and mass of grains per pod and for pout pepper number and mass of fruits, largest fruit diameter and length were evaluated. The repeatability coefficient (r) was estimated by the principal component method using the correlation matrix and the covariance matrix. The number of measurements for each variable was also determined based on the coefficients of determination of 0.80, 0.85, 0.90, 0.95 and 1.00. The estimated repeatability coefficient obtained the highest estimates using the covariance matrix, ranging from 0.67 to 0.84 for zucchini, from 0.66 to 0.97 for cucumber, from 0.47 to 0.70 for pea and from 0.57 to 0.71 for pout pepper. It was collected from University of the Punjab, Lahore under a Morus tree. For the domestication of this wild significant species, its three parameters i.e., culturability, spawn production and cultivation potential were assessed using different synthetic culture media and substrates. Completely randomized design was used to determine the parameters and all the effects were evaluated in triplicates. Among these different media used, maximum mycelial growth where observed on the potato dextrose agar (PDA) at 35°C, followed by the compost extract agar (CEA) medium, malt extract agar (MEA), glucose peptone agar (GPA), and Saboraud dextrose agar (SDA). Spawning material was prepared on rice, sorghum and barley grains by the cultured mycelium on PDA medium. Sorghum grains were found as the appropriate medium for spawn production of this fungus. Cultivation potential and biological efficiency was assessed on the different substrates i.e., pure rice straw, pure sawdust, pure tea-waste, mixture of sawdust and rice straw, mixture of tea waste and sawdust and mixture of tea waste and rice straw. Mixed substrate of sawdust and rice straw at 30oC showed the maximum yield. Tea-waste medium was used as the casing material and proved very effective. These results indicated that Lentinus tigrinus exhibit the growth potential and its domestication can compete with nutritional and medicinal peculiarities of one of the most cultivated species, L. edodes.","PeriodicalId":56307,"journal":{"name":"Horticultura Brasileira","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45430588","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there is the need to research what local organic substrates can substitute peat moss as a culture medium to produce watermelon seedlings of good quality and at low cost. The objective of this study was to evaluate the physical and chemical properties of five local organic substrates as substitutes of the commercial substrate “Peat Moss”, for the production of seedlings of two watermelon cultivars, Sun Sweet and Jubilee. Five local organic substrates were studied: cacao husk, compost, vermicompost, bovine manure, coconut fiber and the commercial substrate “Peat Moss” as control. The response variables were percentage of germination, indicators of morphological quality and morphological quality indexes, stability of the clod, and relative efficiency of the local substrates. The best morphological indicators and morphological quality index of the seedlings were found with the substrates cacao husk and vermicompost, with a seedling quality similar to those obtained with the commercial substrate. Compost presented the lowest stability of the clod and relative efficiency. The substrates of cacao husk and vermicompost can substitute the commercial substrate “Peat Moss”, in addition to being easy to obtain and of low cost; so they are a viable alternative for rural farmers in the production of watermelon seedlings.","PeriodicalId":56307,"journal":{"name":"Horticultura Brasileira","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48870112","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Avaliou-se a taxa de fotossíntese líquida, condutância estomática, transpiração, concentração interna de CO2, eficiência do uso da água, área foliar e produtividade. A maior taxa de fotossíntese líquida foi observada no arranjo 2R:3N para a primeira época de cultivo. A transpiração, condutância estomática e concentração de carbono interna foram menores na segunda época de cultivo. As eficiências intrínseca e instantânea do uso da água foram maiores na segunda época de cultivo. A rúcula em monocultivo e o cultivo consorciado 2R:1N alcançaram produtividade semelhante. As respostas fisiológicas da rúcula não foram influenciadas pelos arranjos de cultivo com nirá, indicando que a cultura pode ser arranjada sem prejuízo à eficiência do processo fotossintético. Therefore, the objective of the present work was to evaluate the agro-economic benefits of radish-lettuce intercropping under the influence of green manuring with Merremia aegyptia (hairy woodrose) and Calotropis procera (roostertree) and lettuce population densities in a semi-arid environment, in two cropping seasons. The experimental design used was randomized blocks, with treatments arranged in a 4x4 factorial scheme, with 4 replicates. The first factor in this scheme consisted of equitable biomass amounts of M. aegyptia and C. procera at doses of 20, 35, 50 and 65 t/ha on a dry basis, and the second factor of lettuce population densities of 150, 200, 250 and 300 thousand plants/ha. The production of radish and lettuce and its components, in addition to the agroeconomic indicators, system productivity index (SPI), land equivalent coefficient (LEC) and monetary equivalent ratio (MER) were evaluated. The greatest agro-economic benefits of the intercropped radish-lettuce were obtained with SPI of 15.37 t/ha, LEC of 1.27 and MER of 1.30, respectively, in the combination of 65 t/ha of M. aegyptia and C. procera biomass with the lettuce population density of 300 thousand plants/ha. The maximum commercial productivity of radish roots in the intercropping system was 8.45 t/ha in the combination of the biomass amount of 20 t/ha of M. aegyptia and C. procera and lettuce population density of 300 thousand plants/ha, while the maximum lettuce leaf productivity optimized in intercropping was 17.72 t/ha, in the combination of green manures biomass amount of 65 t/ha and population density of 300 thousand plants/ha of lettuce. The use of spontaneous species from the Caatinga biome as green manure in the radish-lettuce intercropping provides optimized agro-economic benefits in a semi-arid environment.","PeriodicalId":56307,"journal":{"name":"Horticultura Brasileira","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49324386","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
