The implicit protagonist of the novel, however, is the emerging movement of German National Socialism. The literary investigation thus proceeds as a counter-investigation: It illuminates the spectrum of social and psychological events that take shape in light of the police investigation, and thus depicts the beginnings of fascism. The literary counter-investigation is thus not driven by a single event, but by the emergence of a social disposition. The article then shows that Seghers’ artistic mode of representation is informed by both her dissertation on Rembrandt and contemporary discussions of ‘realism’; furthermore, it argues that the novel establishes ‘counter-investigation’ as a para-genre the history of which leads up to the present, as recent films like Michael Haneke’s The white Ribbon (2009) show.","PeriodicalId":55928,"journal":{"name":"ZEITSCHRIFT FUR FRANZOSISCHE SPRACHE UND LITERATUR","volume":"13 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85135412","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Le testament de Bismarck . It draws upon the theory of decolonization by Achille Mbembe to investigate the way the novel represents Congo and its natural resources as the beginning, but also the result of colonial claims from Europe. The paper also questions the postcolonial relationship between Europe and Africa on the basis of the encounter between the young Congolese hero of the novel and the European Aude Martin and is consequently addressing the issue of colonial memory from a postcolonial perspective. It raises the argument that Bofane’s narration of an African present is the deconstruction of the topos of a postcolonial Africa caught in nostalgic cant, for it represents Isookanga, the Pygmy, as a perfect master of imagination in the sense Appadurai puts it.","PeriodicalId":55928,"journal":{"name":"ZEITSCHRIFT FUR FRANZOSISCHE SPRACHE UND LITERATUR","volume":"44 1","pages":"226-240"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85673025","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although at first glance almost exemplary for Le Matin ’s self-conception as a medium of most recent objective information from any corner of the globe, at a closer look Feneon’s threeliners unfold an astonishing poetic power. Their author’s active participation in the aesthetic avantgarde during the Parisian fin de siecle as well as in the anarchist movement of the early 1890s provides the breeding ground from which Feneon’s Nouvelles en trois lignes emerge as explosive mixture of artistry and political commitment that goes far beyond a nicely cast tweet to the reader.","PeriodicalId":55928,"journal":{"name":"ZEITSCHRIFT FUR FRANZOSISCHE SPRACHE UND LITERATUR","volume":"22 1","pages":"166-186"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82173089","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article investigates linguistic practices in Saarland’s population and attitudes towards French and the region’s language policy. An online survey carried out in spring 2017 with roughly 1,200 participants reveals a generally positive stance towards the objectives of the strategy and the French language, especially in the education system. The quantitative findings of the survey, including opinions about specific measures of the ‘France Strategy’, are complemented by qualitative data from comments given at the end of the survey, which reveal the reasoning behind the arguments made both for and against the aims of the strategy. Saarland’s society turns out to be surprisingly multilingual already and therefore offers a promising setting to further enhance the region’s multilingualism.","PeriodicalId":55928,"journal":{"name":"ZEITSCHRIFT FUR FRANZOSISCHE SPRACHE UND LITERATUR","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69234841","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
