Garay ex N.Hallé was a species only known from the type specimen and was considered doubtful. Since it has been recently relocated in its type locality and in its surrounding areas, we were able to compare it to the endemic closely related and well known species, Dendrobium oppositifolium (Kraenzl.) N.Hallé. We confirm D. petrophilum as a distinct species based on its morphology and its very special ecology. Both species are fully described, compared, and illustrated. Comparative tables are given in English and French. We also discuss their ecology, distribution, phenology and confirm the IUCN assessments made by the local Endemia Red List Authority.","PeriodicalId":55556,"journal":{"name":"Adansonia","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2022-01-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87973667","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is probably extinct in the wild, but is present in the germplasm collection in Bassin Martin (Réunion, France) and Meise Botanic Garden (Belgium). Phylogenetic analyses reveal a close relationship with C. montekupensis Stoff., a species endemic to the same region but occurring at higher elevations, and with C. liberica Bull. ex Hiern, a species with a wide Central and West African distribution. The new species can be distinguished from other Coffea species from Central Africa by its large black fleshy fruits with thick mesocarp. It can be differentiated from its close relative C. montekupensis by its larger less obovate leaves, longer corolla tube and larger fruits; and from C. liberica by its shorter petiole, acuminate leaf tip, cuneate leaf base, thinner leaf blade, shorter corolla tube, longer corolla lobes and black fruits with a thick fleshy pericarp. The evolutionary importance of the fruit colour is discussed, as well as the role of Mount Kupe, the Bakossi Mountains and the broader South-West Cameroon region as the principal Coffea diversity hotspot on the African continent.","PeriodicalId":55556,"journal":{"name":"Adansonia","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2021-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72582780","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Au sein de la tribu des Morindeae, Coelospermum se différencie par ses fleurs à étamines nettement exsertes. En Nouvelle-Calédonie, seules trois espèces étaient jusqu'ici connues, auxquelles une quatrième est ici ajoutée, qui s'en distingue aisément par ses fruits syncarpiques et sa corolle à gorge et lobes en face interne densément pileux. Cette espèce nouvelle, appelée C. nomac sp. nov., est endémique de Nouvelle-Calédonie et plus particulièrement micro-endémique à l'extrême Nord, sur le massif de Tiébaghi et à la Pointe Nord de l'Île. Le faible nombre de récoltes disponibles ainsi que les efforts de prospections, restés vains, de 2019 et 2020 sur Tiébaghi montre que cette liane reste relativement rare et doit faire l'objet d'une évaluation de menaces et de conservation. La catégorie CR « en danger critique d'extinction» est provisoirement proposée. Parmi les trois autres espèces, une étude taxonomique suggère l'usage d'un autre nom pour C. monticola, C. fragrans qui est ici néotypifié.","PeriodicalId":55556,"journal":{"name":"Adansonia","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2021-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81310085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our current study reviews the original materials in open databases of the 23 main herbaria that house orchids from A. Duss, A. Cogniaux or H. G. Reichenbach. Among specimens filed as types, a lectotype (BR0000013217891) is recognized and a presumed isotype (NY00059032) is rejected. However, the lectotype material is not sufficient for precise application of the name. Thus, we designate an epitype based on the specimen K000079638 which refers to the heterotypic synonym Ponera punctulata Rchb. f. to support the name I. pauciflorus. Furthermore, the holotype of P. punctulata commonly accepted and used in the literature is said to be in the Reichenbach Orchid Herbarium, at the Natural History Museum in Vienna (Austria). Unfortunately, this unique gathering is no longer extant or is missing there, but a photograph is available. From this picture, we show that this specimen was not original material, so it was not the holotype. We therefore designate a neotype of P. punctulata Rchb. f. supported by the specimen K000079638. In addition, we designate an epitype of Tetragamestus isochiloides Regel (LE00011188), heterotypic synonym of these above taxa. Finally, the type of Hexadesmia dunstervillei Garay, AMES00287200, is demonstrated to be a lectotype, not a holotype.","PeriodicalId":55556,"journal":{"name":"Adansonia","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73491264","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the present study is to explore the contribution of the micro-floral characters in understanding the relationships among the studied species of Brassicaceae as well as the evolutionary trends in calyx, corolla, androecium and gynoecium. It was concluded that the vascularization of sepals, petals, stamens, nectaries and carpels was considered diagnostic and reliable characters at the specific level. The reduction and presence of vascular complexes was found to be at the top of the floral evolutionary trends. The micro-floral data were discussed in the view of dicta of evolution which facilitate the construction of proposed schematic presentation showing the line of advancement within each tribe. The line of advancement in tribe Brassiceae (representing 14 studied species) is from the primitive Raphanus sativus L. to the advanced Eruca sativa Mill. To rule the line of evolution within other tribes, the number of studied taxa should be increased.","PeriodicalId":55556,"journal":{"name":"Adansonia","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2021-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76141635","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
