Evaluar el impacto del esfuerzo de caza sobre la densidad y el diámetro de la madriguera de este crustáceo durante Semana Santa es crucial para desarrollar estrategias de protección y conservación. Cuatro sitios de la costa de Turbo, Cameru, Punta de Piedra, Cirilo y Tie fueron muestreados antes (20-23 de marzo) y después (20-23 de abril) de Semana Santa del 2018. La densidad poblacional fue estimada mediante el conteo de madrigueras ocupadas dentro de cinco transectos de 10 m x 2 m por cada sitio. La población local fue encuestada para determinar tendencias de consumo, épocas de mayor actividad de caza y métodos de captura. Después de Semana Santa se obtuvo una densidad promedio de 1,3 ± 0,7 madrigueras m-2 y un diámetro medio de 44,0 ± 16,5 mm (Min: 10,5 mm, Max: 100,3 mm, n: 370) correspondientes a una disminución del 9 % y 16 %, respectivamente, respecto al muestreo previo. Aunque el esfuerzo de captura en temporada de semana santa no afectó significativamente la densidad de las madrigueras de C. guanhumi, se presentaron cambios significativos en las proporciones de individuos adultos y no adultos entre ambos muestreos indicando mayor presión antropogénica del hábitat en Cameru y Cirilo. Los resultados de este estudio proveen información valiosa para el desarrollo de proyectos locales destinados a la protección y conservación de la especie en Colombia.","PeriodicalId":55293,"journal":{"name":"Caldasia","volume":"235 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135270399","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, their ecology and natural history are largely unknown, partly due to their rarity in the field and in biological collections. This contribution summarizes the status of knowledge of the Colombian Lucanidae, based for the most part in bibliographic research and personal observations from fieldwork and biological collections in Colombia and Brazil. Bibliographic records are supplemented by data from the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), including field observations recorded through the online platform iNaturalist. In the literature, we found 19 species of stag beetles recorded for Colombia, belonging to five genera, three tribes, and two subfamilies. Bibliographic records are concentrated in the Andean region of Colombia, with some records in the Caribbean and Pacific regions. The lowlands of the Amazon and Orinoco regions lack any records for lucanid beetles. The diversity and ecology of stag beetles in Colombia are discussed in the light of current environmental threats. By presenting diagnoses and an identification key to the lucanid genera present in the country, along with known distributional data, and a discussion about their ecology, this contribution constitutes the first step towards proposing Colombian lucanids as species in need of conservation efforts.","PeriodicalId":55293,"journal":{"name":"Caldasia","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135270436","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

La continentalidad tiene un papel importante en la composición y distribución de especies vegetales. En el presente trabajo, la flora urbana ha sido estudiada a lo largo de un gradiente de continentalidad. Cuatro ciudades han sido muestreadas en el sur de España (Andalucía): Huelva, Sevilla, Córdoba y Linares (Jaén). Dos áreas por ciudad han sido estudiadas obteniendo información sobre distintos parámetros tales como diversidad, fenología y especies alóctonas. Los resultados soportan la alta presencia de especies nitrófilas, principalmente plantas anuales (terófitos). Las ciudades más cercanas a la costa (Huelva y Sevilla) han mostrado una fenología más avanzada y un mayor número de especies alóctonas que en las ciudades más interiores (Córdoba y Linares). Las familias Asteraceae, Poaceae y Fabaceae han sido las más representadas en este orden. Los índices de diversidad han resultado altos para todas las ciudades estudiadas.","PeriodicalId":55293,"journal":{"name":"Caldasia","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135270441","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The hooded skunk (Mephitis macroura) is a medium-sized mammal common in North America, but its abundance is poorly known throughout its range. In a semiarid location in southern Mexico, we deployed a camera traps array to study the populations of meso-carnivores in three seasons. With 2520 camera days of sampling effort, we obtained 41 photographs of the hooded skunk, an average of 6.2 photographs per station, meaning a capture rate of 1.63 photographs/camera day per 100. Based on pelage color patterns and specific characteristics, we identified 25 individuals (seven to twelve skunks per season). Single camera-trap stations recorded up to seven different skunk individuals (an average of 3.6 individuals). The maximum number of capture-recaptures was four for three skunk individuals, and the average capture-recapture record was 1.4 per skunk. Although the survey area was appropriate for mesocarnivores, no spatial recaptures were observed for hooded skunks because the distance between cameras was longer. Traditional capture-recapture models estimated hooded skunk abundance at 12.60, 21.10, and 20.20 skunks during the dry, pre-rainy, and rainy seasons, respectively. The capture rate was higher than reported in other camera trapping surveys in Mexico, and estimated abundances were the lowest but, in the range, reported for the species using other techniques. Idiosyncratic characteristics of hooded skunks are useful to the recognition of individuals, but we recommend testing short distances among cameras to achieve spatial recaptures and to apply contemporary spatial capture-recapture analyses.","PeriodicalId":55293,"journal":{"name":"Caldasia","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135270432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Se tuvo como objetivo describir la estructura de talla, relación longitud-peso y factor de condición (K) de cuatro peces nativos de la presa Nezahualcóyotl. Durante el periodo agosto 2010-julio 2011, se analizaron 1545 especímenes, se midió la longitud patrón (Lp) y el peso eviscerado (Pe) de cada ejemplar. La estructura de tallas se analizó con histogramas de frecuencia, la relación longitud-peso se estimó mediante la ecuación de alometría W= aLb y el factor de condición K=100 (W/L 3). Petenia splendida fue el cíclido que registró mayores tallas con una Lp promedio de 23,48 cm (DE ± 2,1 cm), Ictalurus meridionalis presentó una Lp promedio de 36,63 cm (DE ± 7,6 cm). El tipo de crecimiento para I. meridionalis fue alométrico negativo (b=2,63), P. splendida (b=3,19) y Cincelichthys pearsei (b=3,73) presentaron un crecimiento alométrico positivo; Vieja bifasciata registró un crecimiento isométrico (b=2,92). El análisis de Wilcoxon mostró diferencia significativa en la variación del factor de condición entre temporadas de lluvias y secas para P. splendida (P=1,874e-08) y C. pearsei (P=5,123e-05), sin embargo, el factor de condición para las cuatro especies analizadas fue menor a 1 lo que sugiere que para esos años de registro se encontraron con buen nivel de alimentación y en condiciones ambientales adecuadas en ambas temporadas del año.","PeriodicalId":55293,"journal":{"name":"Caldasia","volume":"149 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135270400","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Se evaluó la importancia cultural de las especies de esta familia en una localidad de Cajabamba. Se aplicaron tres métodos para la evaluación etnobotánica, el listado libre, caminatas etnobotánicas y entrevistas semiestructuradas. Fueron 31 las especies útiles registradas, agrupadas en siete categorías de uso. Las categorías Medicinal y Social agruparon los mayores números de especies con 26 y 22 especies respectivamente. Catorce fueron nuevos registros de especies útiles para la jalca y nueve eran endémicas para el Perú. Las especies Senecio collinus y Barnadesia dombeyana se registraron como las de mayor versatilidad de usos, mientras que Barnadesia dombeyana, Baccharis alaternoides, Gynoxys caracensis y Gynoxys ferreyrae fueron las que obtuvieron los mayores valores de importancia cultural. Here, we study the diet of syntopic populations of the lizards Ameivula apipensis and Teius oculatus from an island in northeastern Argentina. Based on stomach contents extracted from specimens collected in September and December 2012 and February 2013, we analyzed prey richness and abundance and calculated both trophic niche breadth and the degree of dietary overlap for the two species. Both species were almost completely insectivorous, and their dietary composition showed a similar prey richness. Numerically, Isoptera dominated the diet of both species, followed by Hymenoptera, insect larvae, and Coleoptera. We report a low niche breadth for each species and substantial overlap between them. This high overlap in their diets could reflect the overall abundance of prey resources in the environment. Other factors, such as the foraging microenvironment and activity period, might be dimensions on which the niches of these species are differentiated.","PeriodicalId":55293,"journal":{"name":"Caldasia","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135270433","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
