On the original material of two austral American Senecio species (Compositae) collected during British naval expeditions in 1828, now located in the herbarium of Geneva. Candollea 76: 261–267. In English, English abstract. The location of the original material of the austral American species Senecio bipinnatifidus Hook. & Arn. and Senecio websteri Hook. f. has been unknown for decades. In the course of curation labours in G, such material originating from Delessert's herbarium has been located. The name Senecio bipinnatifidus was described from Coquimbo (Chile) based on material collected in 1828 during the Captain Beechey's Expedition; the specimen found in G is designated as the lectotype of this name and the currently accepted Senecio elquiensis Cabrera placed under synonymy. The description of Senecio websteri was based on material collected in 1828 in Staten Island (Argentina) during the voyage to the Southern Atlantic Ocean lead by Captain Foster; the located specimen is considered here as the holotype of the name. A synoptic revision of the genus Deidamia (Passifloraceae). Candollea 76: 293–297. In English, English and French abstracts. Deidamia Noronha ex Thouars (Passifloraceae) is a small genus known from Madagascar and the Comoro Islands. The previous treatment by Henri Perrier de la Bâthie for the Flore de Madagascar et des Comores recognized five species: Deidamia alata Noronha ex Thouars, Deidamia bicolor H. Perrier, Deidamia bipinnata Tul., Deidamia commersoniana DC. and Deidamia setigera Tul. A complete study of all material available in G, K, MO and P has facilitated a critical review of the taxonomy of the genus. A taxonomic revision of Ranunculus sect. Batrachium in Corsica: a morphological and statistical analysis. Candollea 76: 275–292. In French, English and French abstracts. In Corsica, the species of Ranunculus sect. Batrachium DC. are poorly defined due to a lack of sufficient observations and because the group is taxonomically complex. Our study concerns 113 individuals collected around the whole island, and is based on a biometric study of 16 morphological characters and field observations (plant development, intrapopulation variability, ecology). As a result, several species are excluded from the section and the groups Ranunculus peltatus aggr., Ranunculus penicillatus aggr., and Ranunculus trichophyllus Chaix are retained. These groups are statistically discriminated by fruiting pedicel length and multifidous leaf length. The species present on the island are Ranunculus penicillatus (Dumort.) Bab., Ranunculus saniculifolius Viv. (initially attributed to Ranunculus peltatus aggr.), and Ranunculus trichophyllus Chaix. Taxonomic studies on Malagasy Dalbergia (Fabaceae). II. A new name for D. mollis and the reinstatement of D. chermezonii. Candollea 76: 251–257. In English, English and French abstracts. The two varieties of Dalbergia mollis Bosser & R. Rabev., recognised by Bosser & Rabevohitra, have been recently shown on the basis of molecular data to be distinct at species level. This distinction is supported by a number of clear differences in the morphology of the two species that we discuss here in detail. Nomenclatural problems have beset these taxa: the name Dalbergia mollis was established by Bosser and Rabevohitra as a replacement for the later homonym Dalbergia stenocarpa R. Vig., however, the name was superfluous because the name Dalbergia chermezonii R. Vig. was available for this species as circumscribed in Bosser and Rabevohitra's article, but was treated by the authors incorrectly, as a synonym of one of the varieties. We re-establish Dalbergia chermezonii, provide the new name, Dalbergia bemarivensis Phillipson & N. Wilding, as a replacement for Dalbergia stenocarpa R. Vig. and propose an amended description of both species. While the former species occurs only in the southern half of the country, the latter occurs only in the north-west. Isert and Thonning's plants and Schumacher's Beskrivelse af Guineiske Planter (1827) – A Danish legacy to the study of the West African flora. Candollea 76: 171–190. In English, English abstract. In the late 18th century, the Danish government planned to establish plantations in Danish Guinea (now southeastern Ghana), and detailed botanical studies were initiated for this. Material of more than 600 species was collected, mostly preserved at C, with duplicates at B, BM, FI-W, G, G-DC, K, LE, M, P-JU and S. Duplicates were distributed and studied across Europe long before the publication of a treatment of the entire collection. Examples of research on duplicates at B, C, G and G-DC illustrate how the material was sometimes described under different names during this period, as when Augustin-Pyramus de Candolle in Geneva took up Thonning's intended generic name Tricliceras Thonn. ex DC. for a new genus, while Schumacher in Copenhagen named the same genus Wormskioldia Schumach. & Thonn. This example also illustrates the contacts between Danish botanists and Candolle in Geneva, both directly and via Marc Nicolas Puerari. A manuscript dealing with the entire Guinean collection was ready by 1819, but only published when the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters took responsibility for it. Archival studies document that, on 30 June 1826, the Academy decided to publish Beskrivelse but not when and how a preprint became available. In a range of libraries in Europe and USA there are copies of this preprint entitled Beskrivelse af Guineiske Planter and the year of publication given as “1827”, while in the regular series of the Academy's publications the first 228 pages of Beskrivelse appeared in 1828 and the remaining 236 in 1829. The International Code of Nomenclature for Algae, Fungi and Plants stipulates that the priority of all new names published in a work must be counted from the year indicated as the year of publication on the work itself, unless this can be documented to be wrong, so 1827 must stand as the year of publication. Soon after that, Beskrivelse became an important source of information on West African plants. Chambouleyron, M. Charrier, J.-F. Léger & M. Perret (2021). Revision of the genus Ammodaucus (Apiaceae) in North Africa. Candollea 76: 191–200. In French, English and French abstracts. Recent collections from southern Anti-Atlas and northern oceanic Sahara identified as Ammodaucus leucotrichus Coss. & Durieu and Cuminum maroccanum Davis & Hedge (Apiaceae) led us to present a taxonomic revision of the genus Ammodaucus Coss. & Durieu in northern Africa, which is based on morphological and molecular data. Phylogenetic inferences based on original and previously published ITS ribosomal DNA sequences clearly demonstrated that Cuminum maroccanum is not related to the genus Cuminum L. but instead nested within Ammodaucus, which forms a distinct lineage in the subtribe Daucinae. Two clades within Ammodaucus are recognised. The first one includes the accessions corresponding to Cuminum maroccanum, characterized by having long bracteoles and fusiform mericarps and the second one includes the accessions corresponding to Ammodaucus leucotrichus, which displays short bracteoles and oboval mericarps. On this basis, the species Cuminum maroccanum is transferred to the genus Ammodaucus and the name Ammodaucus leucotrichus subsp. nanocarpus Beltrán-Tej. is included in the synonymy.
