It extracts sequencing rules from input music and uses these rules to generate new tunes, which are sung by a vocal synthesiser. We developed a method to represent rules for musical composition as quantum circuits. We claim that such musical rules are quantum native: they are naturally encodable in the amplitudes of quantum states. To evaluate a rule to generate a subsequent event, the system builds the respective quantum circuit dynamically and measures it. After a brief discussion about the vocal synthesis methods that we have been experimenting with, the paper introduces our novel generative music method through a practical example. The paper shows some experiments and concludes with a discussion about harnessing the creative potential of the system.","PeriodicalId":54937,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Unconventional Computing","volume":"3 1","pages":"303-331"},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2022-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83688000","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These problems highlight two recently uncovered aspects of parallel computation: 1. There exist computations for which the running time of a parallel algorithm, compared to that of the best sequential algorithm, shows a speedup that is superlinear in the number of processors used, a feat that was previously believed to be impossible. 2. There exist inherently parallel computations, that is, computations that can be carried successfully in parallel, but not sequentially. A surprising consequence of these discoveries is that the concept of universality in computation, long held as a basic truth, is in fact false.","PeriodicalId":54937,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Unconventional Computing","volume":"1 1","pages":"347-366"},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2019-03-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45909516","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We invoke representations of groupoid tiling wreath products analogous to the study of nonrigid molecules { or of related fuzzy symmetry extensions { to build a Morse Function that can describe spontaneous symmetry breaking phase transitions driven by information catalysis. The Function can, however, also be used to construct an Onsager-like stochastic dynamics, linked to the phase transition approach by the rich stability criteria associated with stochastic dierential equations. The two methods provide complementary ways of looking at the FLK. A limit condition emerging from the stochastic dynamics gives insight into a cellular ‘generalized inammation’ requiring progressively higher commitment of metabolic free energy for maintenance of basic FLK processes. These results suggest that more systematic study may illuminate pathologies associated with the failure of the FLK, a centrally-important but enigmatic biological process.","PeriodicalId":54937,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Unconventional Computing","volume":"71 1","pages":"93-110"},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2013-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83940623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Distributed character and complex nonlinear dynamics of chemical reactions inherent in the medium are the basis for large-scale parallelism and complex logical operations performed by the medium as primitives and equivalent to hundreds of binary fixed-point operations. Photo-sensitive catalysts controlling dynamics (modes of functioning) of the medium enable to easily perform input of initial data and output of computational results. It was found during the last decades that chemical reaction-diffusion media can be effectively used for solving artificial intelligence problems, such as image processing, finding the shortest paths in a labyrinth, and some other important problems that are at the same time problems of high computational complexity. Spatially non uniform control of the medium by physical stimuli and fabrication of multi level reaction-diffusion systems seem to be the promising way of enabling low cost and effective information processing devices that meet the commercial needs. Biological roots and specific neural net architecture of reaction-diffusion media seem to enable simulating some phenomena inherent in the cerebral cortex, such as optical illusions.","PeriodicalId":54937,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Unconventional Computing","volume":"37 1","pages":"129-163"},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2006-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87113038","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
