This paper describes a study of two methods currently in use for repairing damp-proof layers in such buildings in Shanghai, China: mechanical physical methods and chemical injection methods. It provides two case studies to demonstrate the use of each method in practice. The aim of the paper is to aid in the selection of suitable and reliable protection and repair technologies of damp-proof layers, to standardise construction technology and to ensure the continued and sustainable use of use of historic buildings.","PeriodicalId":54573,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers-Civil Engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2023-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73446710","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the past 10 years the building has undergone its latest iteration of re-use, with installation of a public gym, sports halls and archive facility. In 2022 a new self-contained film and television studio was added within the existing structure. This paper describes the building’s latest adaptation and the various challenges encountered. Originally designed for Formula 1 racing cars, the system has the potential to improve the efficiency of electric-powered plant and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The trial application on a tower crane achieved savings of 44 t of carbon dioxide equivalent a year. It proved the technology works with mains power, cutting-edge generators and batteries. With improvements to telemetry, the system could now have wider use across the whole construction industry.","PeriodicalId":54573,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers-Civil Engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2023-03-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87546887","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
