The aim of the research was to evaluate the protective effect of an encapsulating matrix, composed for the first time with three prebiotic materials to maintain the viability of a mixed culture of spray–dried microencapsulated probiotics under simulated gastrointestinal and prebiotic conditions. Microcapsules of four formulations with better viability were then evaluated by inoculating microencapsulated and free strains in MRS broth, adjusting three pH values, bile salts, broth with and without carbohydrate (prebiotic test), incubated at 36 ± 1°C / 24 h; then the percentage of post–treatment cell survival was calculated. Showing that, formulation 1 presented higher barrier protection with average counts: 7.31 log CFU·g-1 lactobacilli and 7.75 log CFU·g-1 (Saccharomyces boulardii) / 4 h (SGF), reaching 6.78 log CFU·g-1 in the four formulations (SIF) with a higher average survival rate 79.79% and 85.06% SGF and SIF, in vitro. On the other hand, the prebiotic test maintained average counts of 9.40 log CFU·g-1 (Lactobacillus spp.) and 6.99 log CFU·g-1 (S. boulardii) / 24 h. The protection exerted by the microspheres under simulated gastrointestinal and prebiotic conditions at therapeutic levels (≥ 106 CFU·mL-1) was demonstrated.","PeriodicalId":54478,"journal":{"name":"Revista Cientifica-Facultad De Ciencias Veterinarias","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135854510","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The most natural infection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS–CoV–2) in animals is related to close contact with their owners with COVID–19 which is handling, taking care and feeding them. SARS–CoV–2 can survive on food, fomites and surfaces for extended periods related to environmental conditions. Many natural feed additives and supplements have been a candidate in recent antiviral treatment strategies against COVID–19. In this study, myo–inositol which is permitted in animal nutrition was used at different concentrations (0, 12.5, 25 and 50 mg·100 g-1 cat food) and conditions (22°C at room temperature and 4°C in the refrigerator) to investigate its effects on feed physicochemical structure and viral load of dry cat food contaminated with inactive SARS–CoV–2 by simulating sneezing. For the interactions between myo–inositol, feed structure and viral load, dry matter, moisture, water absorption index (WAI), water solubility index (WSI), pH and virus gene copy (GC) by RT–qPCR were measured. As only storage temperature affected both WAI and WSI as expected, myo–inostol supplementation dose–dependently decreased gene copy in dry cat food (IC50:366.4–581.5 mg·100 g-1 cat food) at 22°C storage temperature. Virus GC did not correlate with the dry matter, moisture content, pH and WAI after the 30 min contact time (except WSI). In conclusion, myo–inositol as a feed additive might have the potential to control serious viral infections such as COVID–19 for human–animal interactions in a One–Health context.","PeriodicalId":54478,"journal":{"name":"Revista Cientifica-Facultad De Ciencias Veterinarias","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135855531","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sin embargo, la intensificación de la producción primaria, la competencia por el territorio generado por el turismo y su baja rentabilidad, hacen que estos sistemas estén a punto de desaparecer, con negativas consecuencias ambientales y sociales. Para poder conservar estos sistemas, es necesario profundizar en el conocimiento del manejo, lo que permitirá mejorar su gestión técnica y económica y establecer estrategias que optimicen su rentabilidad, pero conservando sus beneficios socio–ambientales. Se seleccionaron 10 unidades productivas ovinas de dos razas autóctonas de Mallorca (Mallorquina y Roja Mallorquina) que fueron monitorizadas mensualmente durante 2015, con el objetivo de evaluar la gestión mediante la elaboración de indicadores técnico–económicos. Posteriormente, se realizó una evaluación de las debilidades del manejo, para detectar aspectos clave que ayuden a mejorar la rentabilidad de la actividad. Se observó que estas unidades productivas están poco especializadas y presentan diversos modelos productivos (profesional, recreativo, turístico, agrícola). Todas ellas están orientadas a la producción de corderos, menos una que es mixta, produciendo tres tipos diferentes de corderos según su peso (lechal, recental medio y grande). La autonomía alimentaria de las unidades productivas es alta, sin embargo, poseen poca organización reproductiva y los costes de producción no se cubren por el precio del cordero. Así mismo, solo el 30 % de las unidades productivas genera beneficio empresarial. Como estrategias de mejora se considera importante la mejora de la producción de pastos; la mejora de la planificación reproductiva y de la genética de las razas; el producir corderos de buena conformación de la canal o el crear una marca de calidad que informe al consumidor de los beneficios ambientales de estos sistemas y de la calidad nutritiva–funcional que tienen estos corderos criados en pastoreo.","PeriodicalId":54478,"journal":{"name":"Revista Cientifica-Facultad De Ciencias Veterinarias","volume":"298 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135197575","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To assess the influence of internal parasites (helminths and protozoa) and their interaction with the different phases of reproduction and season on hematological parameters, fecal and blood samples (n = 89) were taken from ewes during the period from the end of gestation to 3 months after parturition, two weeks apart. Animals were reared under a traditional pasture–based farming system in a Region of Northeastern Algeria characterized by a Mediterranean climate. Parasitic coproscopy results showed the consistent presence of digestive strongyles, Strongyloides, Trichuris ovis, Moniezia spp., Fasciola hepatica, and Coccidia. Hematological parameters, mainly hematocrit (HCT), hemoglobin (HGB), and erythrocytes (RBC), showed lower levels in anemic ewes throughout the study period. These hematological effects became significantly prevalent in 91% of the animals (P<0.05) during the third month postpartum (p.p.). The use of a mixed–effects model confirmed the significant hematological effect (P<0.05) of internal parasitism, which was amplified significantly by its interaction with the reproduction stage for HCT and RBC (P<0.01). Monitoring of blood biological constants in ewes during the critical reproductive stages seems to provide valuable data to improve their welfare and resistance to potential internal parasites.","PeriodicalId":54478,"journal":{"name":"Revista Cientifica-Facultad De Ciencias Veterinarias","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135194060","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 20 Tabby cat heads used. The materials was provided from the Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Street Animals Temporary Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Balıkesir, Turkey. Adult, regardless of gender difference, died from variety of reasons and 20 Tabby cat cadavers which weigh approximately 3–4 kg were brought to the laboratory in accordance with the procedure. Hard palates were subjected to gross examination, morphometric analysis, light and SEM.The Tabby cats hard palate was split up rostral and caudal parts and incisive papilla (papilla incisive), rugae palatine and with a gutter between them, the presence of palatine raphe and secondary rugae palatine were observed. The rostral and caudal parts of the hard palate were determined to have a smooth appearance with SEM 540X magnification and the presence of epithelial desquamations was found out. It was determined that the rostral and caudal part of the Tabby cat’s hard palate had a honeycomb appearance of the microplicae of the 3000X magnification hard palate epithelium with SEM. Round islets were detected with the SEM at the magnification of 600X of the incisive papilla, the 270X of the rostral–caudal parts and the 44X of the gutter between the palatine rugae. These adaptations of the Tabby cat’s hard palate might increase its efficiency during ingestion and mastication of hard food and in directing the food backward. A total of 16 Konya Merino ewes were used as a material. Four groups were set up, ewes birthing a male lamb (SM group, n=4), a female lamb (SF group, n=4), twin male lambs (TM group, n=4) or twin female lambs (TF group, n=4). Blood plasma samples were taken on days 0 (lambing day), 3, 7, 10, 14 and then weekly until day 35. All samples were analysed using a bovine pregnancy test kit to detect of PAGs level. It was determined that there was a strong negative correlation between PAGs levels in peripheral blood and days after lambing (r2=0.969; P<0.01). However, no relationship was found between PAGs level and lamb gender or birth type. In conclusion, plasma PAGs level decreases rapidly in Konya Merino ewes regardless of lamb gender and birth type. Moreover, the results showed that the plasma profile of PAGs after lambing in Konya Merino ewes can be monitored with a bovine commercial ELISA–based pregnancy test kit, and the test results can be used in decisions and assessments based on the levels of PAG molecules.","PeriodicalId":54478,"journal":{"name":"Revista Cientifica-Facultad De Ciencias Veterinarias","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134957678","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to determine its seroprevalence in Pit Bull dogs from the Western Region of the Turkish Anatolian Peninsula. In the Province of Manisa, 2 mL blood samples were taken from the antebrachial region of 35 Pit Bull dogs using sterile K2EDTA (3.6 mg) blood tubes, and the samples were analyzed using both the mercaptoethanol (ME) microagglutination test and B. canis–specific PCR techniques. Of the 35 dogs tested by 2–ME RSAT, 13 (37.14%) tested positive and 22 (63%) tested negative. Of the 13 dogs that tested positive for 2–ME RSAT, 8 (22.85%) were female, and 5 (14.28%) were male. Subsequent PCR analysis of all samples revealed that 7 (20%; 7/35) of the samples that tested positive for 2–ME RSAT were actually B. canis–specific PCR positive. These findings suggest that B. canis is present in Pit Bull dogs, although they provide a general idea of the disease's prevalence of the disease in the region. Multicentre studies with larger numbers of cases in different groups of Pit Bulls, such as healthy, patient and risk groups, are needed to provide comprehensive evidence.","PeriodicalId":54478,"journal":{"name":"Revista Cientifica-Facultad De Ciencias Veterinarias","volume":"129 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135925959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the current study, it was aimed to determine and compare the levels of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF–α), interferon gamma (IFN–γ), Procalcitonin (PCT) and Neopterin in the blood serums of cattle with brucellosis and vaccinated against brucellosis. The materials of this study consisted of a total 48 blood serums belonging to three basic groups, each consisting of 16 animals. Disease group (1st group) were divided into two subgrups each consisting of 8 animals that 21st day after abortion and seropositive 7 months pregnant, the vaccinated (2nd group) and the control (3rd group) groups were divided into two subgroups, each consisting of 8 animals that gave birth 21 days ago and 7 months pregnant. IFN–γ and PCT levels were determined by sandwich enzyme immunoassay, TNF–α and Neopterin levels were determined using competitive inhibition enzyme immunoassay method by using ELISA device. In this study, TNF–α, PCT and Neopterin levels measured in the blood serums of the Brucella seropositive (1st), conjunctival Brucella abortus S19 vaccine administered (2nd) and unvaccinated Brucella seronegative control groups were compared and no significant difference could be determined between the subgroups of the groups (P>0.05). There were a significant differences between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd groups (P<0.05). IFN–γ levels determined in the blood serums of 1st, 2nd and 3rd groups were compared and nosignificant differences were found between the subgroups of 2nd and 3rd groups (P>0.05), but there were a significant differences between the subgroups of the 1st group (P<0.05). Similarly, a significant differences were determined between 1st, 2nd and 3rd groups in terms of IFN–γ levels (P<0.05). As a result, it was thought that detecting very high serum TNF–α, IFN–γ, neopterin levels in cattle with brucellosis would be helpful in the diagnosis and follow–up of brucellosis. However, it was concluded that there is a need for controlled studies comparing more herds with brucellosis to determine whether the relevant cytokines can be used in the diagnosis of brucellosis.","PeriodicalId":54478,"journal":{"name":"Revista Cientifica-Facultad De Ciencias Veterinarias","volume":"113 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136383998","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
