There are approximately 31 races of native maize and three races of teosinte in Oaxaca state, but little is known about their resistance to insect damage. This study compared the development and fecundity of S. frugiperda fed on native maize and the teosinte Zea luxurians, from Oaxaca, Mexico. No significant differences were determined in the development parameters of males and females according to the host plant types, except the pupal weight of males, which was higher on teosinte (0.189 g) than on native maize (0.174 g). Duration from hatching to adult emergence was 28.96 to 30.17 d on native maize and 28.51 to 30.34 d on teosinte. Females emerged before males in both host plant types. The sex ratio was approximately 0.5 for both sexes. Larval weight was higher on teosinte (0.451 to 0.459 g) than on native maize (0.442 to 0.454 g). According to the fecundity parameters, no significant differences in the duration of oviposition, the number of eggs per egg mass, eggs per female, and eggs per host plant types were determined. Fitness Index was positively correlated with the pupal weight of both sexes and the fecundity parameters of S. frugiperda females. Our results demonstrated that larval feeding on native maize and teosinte did not affect the development parameters and fecundity of S. frugiperda. Constitutive defenses in native maize leaves were similar to those of teosinte.","PeriodicalId":54476,"journal":{"name":"Revista Colombiana de Entomologia","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41786370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the females’ fecundity of the predator Podisus fuscescens (Dallas, 1851) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) with different pre-mating periods. The females of this predator were mated immediately after emergence (T1) or with one (T2), two (T3), three (T4), four (T5) or five (T6) days after emergence. The females mated immediately and one day after the emergency (T1 and T2) had fewer egg clusters than those mated after five days (T6). The number of nymphs per female was lower for those mated immediately after the emergence (T1) and with one (T2) or two days (T3). The total number of eggs was lower in females mated one day after emergence (T2) than for those mated after five days (T6). The proportion of hatched eggs was lower in the treatments T1 and T2 than in the T6. The oviposition and longevity of P. fuscescens females were similar between treatments; however, the pre-oviposition period longer in the T1 than T5 and T6. The pos-oviposition period was longer in the T1. Podisus fuscescens females require five days after emergence to mature their reproductive system, which improves their fitness and avoids unnecessary mating. A variation was found in the base 247 of a 500 bp amplified of the mtCOI gene, this change implies the substitution of an adenine (A) to a Guanine (G), this mutation was detected in the insects collect from greenhouses and in their progeny obtained under laboratory conditions. This genetic variant has a great potential to be a new haplotype of B. cockerelli, therefore, it was designated Mexico Haplotype 1 (MXH1) with GenBank accession number KX130767. El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar la capacidad depredadora de dos especies de hormigas (Solenopis picea y Crematogaster crinosa) sobre la broca del café con un atrayente en experimentos de campo. Para cada especie, se establecieron diez unidades experimentales (UE) con diez granos de café infestados con broca. Los granos infestados fueron colocados dentro de una malla de anjeo y colgados en árboles de café con un nido de hormigas. Para atraer las hormigas hacia los granos brocados estos fueron asperjados con una solución atrayente. Como testigo absoluto se usaron los mismos tratamientos con exclusión de hormigas y como testigo relativo granos brocados sin atrayente. La tasa de depredación de S. picea después de 24 h fue de 78,3%, seguida por C. crinosa con 34,3 %. El cebo atrayente incrementó en un 22 % la atracción de hormigas y depredación de estados biológicos de broca en cada UE, frente al tratamiento no asperjado. Los resultados muestran que las especies de hormigas evaluadas redujeron las poblaciones residuales de H. hampei; S. picea más que C. crinosa.","PeriodicalId":54476,"journal":{"name":"Revista Colombiana de Entomologia","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44859474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Por lo tanto, la reproducción es un proceso complejo en el que se requieren señales de comportamiento específicas de la especie y del sexo para la localización, el reconocimiento y la atracción de la pareja. Además, la interacción de moléculas específicas de la especie y del sexo, posterior a la inseminación es necesaria para garantizar la generación exitosa de la progenie. En esta revisión, nos centraremos en los procesos comportamentales y fisiológicos necesarios para la reproducción en mosquitos vectores de enfermedades, Aedes y Anopheles. Destacaremos los trabajos recientes que han dilucidado los comportamientos pre-apareamiento de machos y hembras que conducen a una cópula exitosa y describiremos los cambios fisiológicos y de comportamiento posteriores al apareamiento observados en las hembras, que facilitan, principalmente, la producción de progenie. Así mismo, discutiremos el papel de las moléculas específicas del sexo en la mediación de los cambios posteriores al apareamiento observados en las hembras apareadas de Aedes y Anopheles. Finalmente, daremos una descripción general de cómo los factores ambientales (por ejemplo, la nutrición de las larvas o la composición del microbioma) pueden influir en la fertilidad de los adultos.","PeriodicalId":54476,"journal":{"name":"Revista Colombiana de Entomologia","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45586457","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

El trabajo se realizó en 78 fincas, abarcando 26 municipios de muestreo. Para la captura de insectos fitófagos se utilizó el método de captura manual a nivel de planta y se instalaron trampas de luz color blanco y trampas atrayentes tipo Ecoiapar a nivel de parcelas. Con los datos obtenidos se construyeron curvas de acumulación de especies, análisis Multi Response Permutation Procedure (MRPP) para determinar diferencias en la composición de especies y análisis de especies indicadoras por núcleo productor. Se identificaron 42 especies de insectos fitófagos, agrupadas en siete órdenes y 12 familias. Los grupos taxonómicos más frecuentes fueron termitas (Blattodea: Isoptera), escamas (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha) y barrenadores de ramas (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). Se registró entre el 63,4 % y el 84,2 % de la riqueza de especies esperada por núcleo productivo según los estimadores Chao-2 y Jacknife-1. La mayor riqueza de especies se obtuvo en SP (30 especies), seguido de MM (26 especies) y SNSM (16 especies). El análisis MRPP detectó diferencias significativas en la composición de especies entre núcleos productivos (p ≤ 0,05). Las especies Nasutitermes sp. para MM, Xylosandrus morigerus para SNSM y Atta sp. para SP obtuvieron valores de indicador que difirieron de los esperados al azar.","PeriodicalId":54476,"journal":{"name":"Revista Colombiana de Entomologia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41626836","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this research was to improve the knowledge of the occurrence of the family Crabronidae in Mexico from a review of the scientific literature and to provide data on species of importance in biological control. The results revealed that 769 species representing 99 genera have been reported in Mexico. With the current review, 8.5% of the species known worldwide were found to be present in the country and the list of species was increased by 32%. The genus Cerceris and Trypoxylon had the highest number of species, 130 species and 58 species, respectively. The Mexican states of Baja California Norte, Sonora and Tamaulipas have the highest number of Crabronidae species. A total of 211 species were added to the list of Crabronidae in Mexico. Twelve genera and eight species of Crabronidae used as biological control agents of various pests were recognized.
