Se evaluó la patogenicidad de Beauveria bassiana cepa B a 1 x 107 conidias/ml por inmersión sobre M. velezangeli. La cepa B causó una mortalidad de 84 % sobre el insecto. Se infestaron plantas de Cissus verticillata con M. velezangeli y se aplicó el hongo a una concentración de 4 x 1010 conidias/L. La mortalidad promedio de los insectos, bajo condiciones de laboratorio en el tratamiento con el hongo fue de 84 %. En condiciones de campo, en el departamento del Huila, en un lote de café infestado con M. velezangeli, se aplicaron los tratamientos: cepa B a una concentración de 4 x 1010 conidias/L, insecticida Clorpirifos a 4 cc/L y agua. En un primer ensayo se escogieron grupos de nueve árboles (20 repeticiones). Tanto el insecticida como el hongo causaron mortalidad en los insectos con disminución entre 80 y 90 % de los porcentajes de daños nuevos en los árboles, mientras que en los testigos la disminución del daño fue de 40 %. En un segundo ensayo, se seleccionaron parcelas de 450 árboles en donde se aplicaron los mismos tratamientos. El porcentaje de árboles afectados en el testigo varió entre 19 y 11 %. El lote con aplicación de insecticida, inició con una infestación del 29 % y, al final del experimento, la infestación estaba cercana al 20 % y el mayor daño fue observado en este lote. En el lote donde se aplicó B. bassiana, la infestación inicial fue de 30 % y al final del experimento mostró el menor nivel de infestación, cercano al 5 %. La cepa B de B. bassiana representa una alternativa viable para el control de M. velezangeli en plantaciones de café.","PeriodicalId":54476,"journal":{"name":"Revista Colombiana de Entomologia","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2020-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46071346","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, volatiles emitted by healthy J. regia and by plants infested with M. ohbayashii primoriensis (Coleoptera: Buprestidae) were obtained by a dynamic headspace method and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Shanxi, China). We identified 26 major compounds and compared the volatile composition of healthy and buprestid-infected J. regia. Green leaf volatiles were detected in all damaged plants, including the monoterpenoids β-phellandrene and (E)-β-ocimene, the sesquiterpenoids (-)-β-bourbonene, β-ylangene, and (E,E)-α-farnesene, the alcohols linalool, myrtenol, and (E)-(-)-pinocarveol, the ketones (E)-pinocamphone and (Z)-pinocamphone, and the ester methyl salicylate. The major volatiles detected in healthy plants were β-pinene (36.26 %), α-pinene (23.81 %), D-limonene (12.03 %), sabinene (8.63 %), and β-myrcene (4.35 %). The main volatiles from M. ohbayashii primoriensis larva-infested plants were β-pinene (37.82 %), α-pinene (20.36 %), D-limonene (14.71 %), germacrene D (5.24 %), sabinene (4.52 %), and β-phellandrene (3.80 %). These results enrich our understanding of volatiles of healthy plants and plants infested with M. ohbayashii primoriensis. Furthermore, they provide a theoretical basis and scientific foundation for integrated pest management and for effective ecologically sustainable pest control strategies.","PeriodicalId":54476,"journal":{"name":"Revista Colombiana de Entomologia","volume":"219 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2020-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77298038","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The entomopathogenic fungus, Beauveria bassiana, was evaluated as a biocontrol of larvae. The percent mortalities of second and third instar larvae produced by in vivo application of a commercial formulation containing the fungal spores were evaluated. Treatment of larvae at concentrations of 1.2 x 106, 2.5 x 106, 3.7 x 107 e 5.0 x 107 conidia/mL resulted in 49, 56, 66 and 72 % mortality within eight days, respectively. Based on the finding, it is recommended that the B. bassiana formulation should be employed at the lowest concentrations (1.2 x 106 and 2.5 x 106 conidia/mL) with repeat application to avoid possible inactivation of the fungus by abiotic environmental factors. Cost-benefit assessments of the use of this biological agent will be important for determining the economic feasibility of its application in the field.","PeriodicalId":54476,"journal":{"name":"Revista Colombiana de Entomologia","volume":"53 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2020-01-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83813711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the Formicidae knowledge in Durango State is limited as it has received little attention; this is mainly due to the lack of specialists, as well as the territorial extension of it. In order to know the myrmecofauna of the state of Durango, collections were made every 15 days between August 1, 2016 and August 1, 2017, in 56 sites in 19 municipalities located in different ecoregions of the State. Forty (40) species belonging to 24 genera were collected; the Myrmicinae subfamily was the most diverse with 21 species, followed by Formicinae (12 spp.), Dolichoderinae (5 spp.) and Dorylinae and Ponerinae with one species each. These gradients affect community structures, generating beta diversity replacement patterns. The two main patterns of spatial replacement are turnover and nestedness. However, there are very few studies that analyze diversity changes along environmental gradients in the Colombian Caribbean region. In an attempt to understand these spatial changes, a complete sampling was conducted in five Colombian Caribbean ecoregions (Golfo de Morrosquillo, Montes de Maria, Sabanas, San Jorge, and La Mojana) using dung beetles as an indicator. In each region, a linear transect with 20 pitfall traps baited with dung was established. Differences in abundance, richness, Shannon-index, evenness, and beta diversity between ecoregions were evaluated. A total of 923 individuals belonging to 27 species were collected. The tribe Deltochilini and the genus Canthon were the most diverse. The most abundant species was Silvicanthon aequinoctialis. Significant differences were found in the parameters measured between the ecoregions. A Beta diversity index established a clear spatial pattern demonstrating high turnover with low nestedness values. The Montes de Maria ecoregion has the highest diversity, which was linked with the maintenance of conserved forest fragments. It is advisable to generate conservation strategies and the designation of a new National Natural Park for Montes de Maria in order to stop the negative impact caused by agricultural and cattle farming expansion in the region. This study represents the first effort to understand dung beetle spatial patterns within the ecoregions of the Colombian Caribbean region through connecting environmental gradients and spatial diversity dynamics.","PeriodicalId":54476,"journal":{"name":"Revista Colombiana de Entomologia","volume":"41 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2020-01-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87744738","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The division of the digestive tract into the stomodeum (foregut), the mesenteron (midgut) and the proctodeum (hindgut) was observed; the second of which being composed of endocrine, regenerative, column-shaped cells. The larvae did not present a crop; hence digestion of the bolus occurs in the midgut. They have two well-developed gastric caeca, where it can be assumed that great nutrient absorption takes place. The peritrophic membrane is type II, with a pore size that allows the passage of molecules up to 150 kDa, and which divides the midgut into two regions: the endoperitrophic and ectoperitrophic spaces. There are four Malpighian tubules present. The midgut has a pH gradient ranging from mildly alkaline in the foregut to neutral in the caeca and hindgut. It has a recirculation mechanism stretching from the endoperitrophic to the ectoperitrophic space and vice versa, which improves digestion and optimizes enzyme production. The morphophysiological features observed in B. impatiens larvae confirm that these organisms are well-adapted detritivores. Additionally, the peritrophic membrane protects the midgut from pathogenic agents.","PeriodicalId":54476,"journal":{"name":"Revista Colombiana de Entomologia","volume":"7 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2020-01-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88922007","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As an alternative, yellow pitaya crops were established, but knowledge of the possible phytosanitary limitations for this crop in this region was absent. This study presents the entomofauna associated with yellow pitaya crops in three plantations of Inza that contrast in agronomic and landscape features. Direct sampling of the insects found on each structure of the plant and sampling was done using entomological nets from directly under the plants to 50 cm away. Abiotic factors and indices of ecological diversity were considered. With direct sampling, 58 families were recognized; of these, Formicidae (n = 22), Coreidae (n = 11) and Lonchaeidae (n = 7) were most prevalent. Five orders and 56 families of insects were collected using entomological nets. The plants with the highest density of cladodes favored the Lonchaeidae (τ = 1.0; P = 0.00), Formicidae (τ = 1.00; P = 0.007) and Cicadellidae (τ = 1.00; P = 0.00) families. Insects from the Lonchaeidae family benefitted from the positive correlation between rainfall (τ = 1.00; P = 0.00) and temperature (τ = 1.00; P = 0.00). Six treatments generated from the combination of levels of the following color factors (transparent, red and green) and alcoholic attractants (without and with coffee essence) were evaluated. The test was conducted in a randomized complete block experiment design. The incidence of coffee berry bore damage was measured in periodic measurements every 30 days, while the capture levels (adults / trap) were evaluated every 15 days. The obtained data was subjected to an analysis of covariance, detecting statistically significant differences between the treatments and once applied the multiple comparisons test, specifically minimum significant difference, it was evidenced that the red trap without essence of coffee captured a greater number of adults (with a maximum of 4,000 adults / trap / week) and proved to be more effective in reducing the incidence (43.7 % less than the initial incidence). On the other hand, the least effective trap was the transparent one without coffee essence.","PeriodicalId":54476,"journal":{"name":"Revista Colombiana de Entomologia","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2020-01-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48644923","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
