This paper proposes a new LC principles deployment method called New PAD. The previous method, called PAD (Preparation, Application, Deployment), was evaluated based on previous exploratory studies and a literature review, which enabled its improvement with the proposal of the New PAD, which was applied and evaluated in a case study of a paver block production process. The main result is the proposal of the New PAD, the validation of which revealed a reduction in production time from 5 hours and 25 minutes to 4 hours and 30 minutes, minimizing flow times. The New PAD proved to be a viable method for implementing Lean Construction principles in various construction activities, and there was a positive evaluation in the case study company. Because of the lack of formalized methods for deploying LC principles, this paper validates the New PAD method, which can fill this gap. Keywords: Civil ProductionDeployment MethodLean ProductionEMJ Focus Areas: Operations Management Disclosure StatementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).Additional informationNotes on contributorsMarcelo Fabiano CostellaMarcelo Fabiano Costella has PhD in Production Engineering. This integer programming-based model generates various schedules that aim to optimize time, cost, quality, and risk, either individually or by achieving a balanced combination of these factors. By allocating accessible resources to the tasks of the project and adhering to precedence and resource constraints dictated by availability and skills, a collection of viable schedules was generated. Using a uniform distribution for time, cost, quality, and risk, three project case studies were derived from existing literature and expanded upon. These case studies were then employed to showcase the model. To generate optimal solutions, an open-source Python-MIP package employing the branch-and-cut methodology was employed. It was found that time is not a factor in minimizing the risk of a project, except for large-scale projects. Meanwhile, cost is a factor in all sizes of the project. Quality has no significant impact on risk. Project managers must strike a balance between resources that contain skills set with short to medium duration, moderate to high cost, and moderate to high-quality level to minimize project risk. Keywords: Project SchedulingInteger ProgrammingRisk MinimizationTime-Cost-Quality-Risk Trade-OffEMJ Focus Areas: Decision MakingRisk ManagementProgramProject Management Disclosure StatementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).Additional informationFundingDe La Salle University financially supported this work.Notes on contributorsRonaldo V. This study aims to examine the understanding of the Corporate Social Responsibility concept and the impact of its implementation on sustainability in companies. Therefore, the research proposed and tested two scenarios where five industries sectors were ranked according to the importance (scenario 1) and implementation (scenario 2) of Corporate Social Responsibility activities. The integrated Entropy-TOSIS method to obtain results was employed. The research data were obtained from interviewing employees from Serbia, Russia, and Bulgaria working in various industries. The findings of this study revealed certain differences in perception and implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility depending on the country where the concept is applied as well as among the industries with their specific needs for sustainable development goals achieving. This research can be useful for engineering managers as a roadmap for reaching sustainable business while fulfilling economic, social, and environmental norms as well as stakeholder expectations. Keywords: Corporate Social ResponsibilitySustainabilityIndustriesCross-Country StudyEMJ Focus Areas: New Product DevelopmentOrganization Development & ChangeOrganization & Work System DesignOrganizational & Performance Assessment AcknowledgmentsThe research presented in this paper was done with the financial support of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia, within the funding of the scientific research work at the University of Belgrade, Technical Faculty in Bor, according to the contract with registration number 451-03-47/2023-01/200131. This research aims to propose an integrated method using LM tools (such as Kanban, VSM, Pareto chart, and Supplier Input Process Output Customer) and Arena simulation to improve the productivity of the production line through reducing lead time, inventory time, including Raw Material (RM) time and Work In Progress (WIP) time and enhancing Process Cycle Efficiency (PCE) ratio. To begin the process, a Pareto chart is employed to identify the main product of the organization. Subsequently, a current VSM is constructed to identify any waste in the production line. The Kanban tool is then used to propose appropriate remedies to improve the manufacturing process. To validate the efficiency of the production capacity in future VSM, Arena simulation is executed by determining Takt Time. Lastly, a future VSM is formulated based on the suggested improvements, and an appraisal is conducted to provide recommendations for prospective enhancements. A real case study of a furniture company in Vietnam is performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The results reveal impressive benefits, including a 92% reduction in lead time and a corresponding 92% increase in PCE. Additionally, there is a substantial reduction of around 90% in WIP time, while RM time is completely eliminated, resulting in a 100% reduction. These findings highlight the efficacy of the proposed approach and the importance of VSM and other Lean tools in achieving process optimization. Keywords: Current Value Stream MappingFuture Value Stream MappingLean ManufacturingKanban Toolinventory TimeEMJ Focus Areas: Continuous ImprovementOrganization & Work System DesignSystems EngineeringTechnology Management Disclosure StatementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).Data Availability StatementAll data, models, and code generated or used during the study appear in the submitted articleAdditional informationNotes on contributorsChia-Nan WangChia-Nan Wang received the Ph.D. degree in industrial engineering and management from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 2004. Moreover, this evaluation method holds promise in enhancing the ability to respond to emergencies in coal mines. The current research conducts both theoretical analysis and field research to determine and extract 26 factors that impact the emergency management capability of coal mining companies. The collected data is analyzed using SPSS version 24.0 and undergoes reliability and validity assessments. Subsequently, the entropy weight technique is utilized to determine the weight of individual evaluation system indices. As an effective evaluation tool, the trained convolutional neural network (CNN) model can accurately and effectively predict the satisfaction of the samples outside the training sample set, providing suggestions for improving coal mine emergency management. The trained model is employed to make empirical predictions and analyze the XY coal mine. The findings indicate that the overall emergency management capacity of the coal mine is II, which is at a good level. This requires circular low carbon (CLC) supply chains which extend the lifecycle of resources as much as possible. The aim of this study is to propose an integrated model for CLC supplier selection. First, economic, environmental and social responsibilities related to carbon management are identified. Then, DANP (Dematel-Analytic Network Process) and COPRAS (Complex Proportional Assessment) model with interval type-2 (IT-2) fuzzy sets are applied to evaluate the suppliers of a case energy company in Turkey. In this study, the ranking of dimensions from the most important to the least yielded the following order: environmental, social, and economic. In turn, carbon policy, carbon emission risks and low carbon supplier collaboration are found to be the most important environmental criteria. The current study has been used for the first time for a CLC supplier selection problem. Further, the study innovatively employs IT-2 fuzzy sets to better address differences and uncertainties that may come into play with a group of experts’ linguistic judgments. The validity of the proposed method is determined through sensitivity and comparative analysis. Keywords: Circular Low Carbon Supply ChainDANPCOPRASSupplier EvaluationInterval Type-2 Fuzzy SetsEMJ Focus Areas: Decision Making & Risk ManagementOperations ManagementSupply Chain ManagementSustainability Disclosure StatementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author.Author ContributionsAll work was conducted by a single author.
