The study aims to consolidate the concept of social manufacturing by characterizing and evaluating its theoretical potential, identifying its main practical trends, and correlating its state-of-the-art with its state-of-the-practice. Design / Methodology / Approach: The first step was the consolidation of the concept of social manufacturing through bibliographic analysis. Then, real-world cases were identified and classified under the optics of social manufacturing to define the current practice. Lastly, confronting the concept of social manufacturing with existing methods depicted a clear panorama, including academic and practical opportunities. Results: The results show a trend towards social manufacturing. New challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, are pushing forward social collaboration initiatives related to manufacturing. The most advanced conceptualized stage occurs theoretically, as mass individualization is still not a reality. New scenarios of limited resources and challenging environments such as the COVID-19 pandemic will impose the broader dissemination and application of mass customization concepts, practices, and tools. Limitation of the investigation: This research only considered articles published in English. Practices were analyzed using third-party content available. Practical implications: New scenarios of limited resources and challenging environments such as the COVID-19 pandemic impose the broader dissemination and application of mass customization concepts, practices, and tools. Originality / Value: The term social manufacturing in the literature has yet to be consolidated. In addition, no comparison between theory and practice was available.","PeriodicalId":54139,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Operations & Production Management","volume":"12 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88107214","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The oil and gas industries have realized the significance of employees' QWL to retain and attract a talented workforce in the competitive job market. This study examines the status of QWL of employees in the LPG Bottling Industry. Design / Methodology / Approach: A measuring scale was designed and validated to evaluate the employees QWL working in the LPG bottling plant. The data for the study was gathered from 435 employees working in four LPG bottling industries. Using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), predominant components of QWL are identified. With the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), the designed scale is validated. With percentage analysis and chi-square analysis, the data was analyzed, and meaningful inferences were drawn. Results: EFA and CFA resulted in four components of QWL with 19 items representing superior model fit. The model fit indices reported from the model namely Chi-Square value = 399.020; CMIN = 2.978, AGFI = 0.900; CFI = 0.937; GFI = 0.915; IFI = 0.938; NFI = 0.909; TLI = 0.920 and RMSEA = 0.068 are in the acceptable range. 51.5% of the respondents expressed to be satisfied with present condition of QWL. The research outcome revealed that among demographical characteristics, nature of activities significantly impacts on the status of QWL of employees. Limitations of the investigation: The data was collected from 435 employees working in four industries because of time constraints. Practical implications: This research's outcome will help the policymakers of LPG Bottling industries to implement QWL interventions for improving the work-life of employees. Originality/value: The present paper is one among the few studies carried out in the oil and gas sector as minimal research has been done in this area.","PeriodicalId":54139,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Operations & Production Management","volume":"11 1 1","pages":"1-13"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84889396","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Design/methodology/approach: Literature review was made of scientific articles, frameworks and norms that supported the field research applied to managers, coordinators and experts from IS area, totaling 104 respondents from different countries. The data collected were analyzed by comparing the degree of importance with the use, and also by means of cross-analysis. Results: It was observed that most respondents agree with the importance of the themes approached, however, in practice, these concepts are not always used by the organization. Besides, it was observed that when security is directly responding for the high level of the organization, the maturity level is between optimized and managed. However, where security is subordinated to the technology area, the level appears with higher percentage, as repeatable. Limitations of the investigation: The sample size is a limiting factor as it was conditioned to questionnaire responses sent to IS experts through electronic means and social networks and it is not possible to generalize as the population size is not known. Practical implications: To assist the electricity industry in taking measures turned to IS governance, and, with that, increase consumer protection with regard to their classified data and the company’s reliability in power supply. Originality/value: The present research originality lies in the proposal of 10 IS governance guidelines obtained from the literature review and the field research applied to IS experts, aiming to raise, more and more, its level of maturity.","PeriodicalId":54139,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Operations & Production Management","volume":"46 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74669398","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Silva","doi":"10.14488/BJOPM.2021.037","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.14488/BJOPM.2021.037","url":null,"abstract":"Goal: The supply chain sustainability (SCS) literature is missing studies that specifically analyse factors that impact sustainability performance in supply chains, according to specific theoretical backgrounds. Within this context, this paper aims to understand how and why social capital theory (SCT) can inspire SCS studies and practice. In doing so, two research questions are addressed: (1) How has the SCS literature evolved in its application of the social capital theory?, and (2) What are the main sustainability performance factors studied in SCS?. Design / Methodology / Approach: A systematic literature review was developed. Data were collected from 12 years (2008–2019) in two databases (i.e. EBSCO and Web of Science) and a total of 56 articles were selected and analysed through deductive and inductive content analysis. Results: The analysis revealed 24 performance factors that influence SCS research throughout the three sustainability dimensions (i.e. economic, environmental and social). We found that social capital makes a significant conceptual contribution to understanding how the supply chain practices (i.e. cooperation, coordination, collaboration, resource exchanges and information sharing) explain how relationships are formed and interrelated to improve SCS performance. Limitations of the investigation: The use of two databases may present limited results, which may have resulted in missing publications. Practical implications: By recognising the performance factor for SCS, managers can identify their supply chain practices and increase their strategies within the relationship. Originality / Value: By revealing the performance factors that can increase SCS, this paper reinforce how powerful SCT is to explain SCS performance.","PeriodicalId":54139,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Operations & Production Management","volume":"57 1","pages":"1-18"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88619756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Design / Methodology / Approach: The system was analyzed in the light of recent theoretical references, having all its phases described, as well as its results and future prospects. Results: The systematic approach involved the development of specific procedures for planning and carrying out audits using a digital platform. The practice was implemented from March 2020 through August 2021. It was approved by the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) and is currently used as a reference for other operators in oil and gas exploration and production (E&P) in Brazil. Limitations of the investigation: The choice of a unique case study, restricted to a practice adopted since the beginning of the pandemic, brought some theoretical-methodological limitations. The authors chose to adopt participant observations due to the inclusion of one of the authors in the process of conducting the audits. Practical implications: The main contribution of this study focuses on the results of the critical analyses carried out to find the strengths and opportunities for improvement that could be adopted by organizations that have similar processes. Originality / Value: The added value of this study refers to the scope of the remote audit, as it is about Process Safety. The studies presented so far refer mostly to remote certification audits or maintenance of the quality management system, with emphasis on ISO 9001.","PeriodicalId":54139,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Operations & Production Management","volume":"404 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87654410","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Design / Methodology / Approach: The case study was carried out in a given material distribution center for civil construction through a questionnaire, based on the Johari window model. The research was classified as applied, exploratory, qualitative and case study. Results: Most of the respondents in the surveyed sector have the opinion that their leader is inserted in the “blind” area of Johari window, that is, it is an area unknown to the leader, either because subordinates do not want to share feedback or because the leader is not able or does not care about it. Through these results, improvements were proposed. Limitations of the investigation: The questionnaire was only applied in one moment, and it is not possible to compare the leader's Johari window with the posterior view of each team member. Practical implications: When leaders share their way of thinking and acting and are willing to receive feedback, there will be greater clarity in communication and executing objectives. With this, it is possible to obtain more qualified and motivated personnel for the performance of the organization's activities, reducing costs, increasing productivity, generating a competitive advantage. Originality / Value: Understanding the relationship between the leader and followers in the researched sector, verifying the confrontation of the opinion of the followers about the behavior of the leader in order to improve the organizational environment to achieve the objectives.","PeriodicalId":54139,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Operations & Production Management","volume":"33 1","pages":"1-16"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76224604","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, companies need to build up new skills to develop and implement PSS focused on business models that should be able to generate value. This context calls for a theoretical analysis with the objective of identifing characteristics of this type of business model by means of a literature review. Design/Methodology/Approach: A descriptive review was conducted, and 313 publications related to PSS business model were selected. A final set of 48 articles related to PSS and business models were identified as well as the number of publications per year and main journal. Mechanisms for generating value from the PSS business model and its components were described after content analysis. Results: Most of PSS business model publications were published in recent years with the main focus on sustainability. Fourteen business model components were identified from the literature to be considered when structuring a PSS, associated with value proposition, creation, delivery, and value capture mechanisms. The most common components were ‘value proposition’ and ‘key partners’, although their concepts need a clarification. The business model should be designed with a value-centric vision in an iterative process. Moreover, it must cover the interests of the entire PSS value network, considering environmental, economic, and social dimensions of sustainability. Limitation of the investigation: The analysis has not considered the related research field on servitization, and nor the publications related to the ‘value’ concept from interdisciplinary areas (e.g., marketing). Practical implications: Developing a PSS business model requires forming a value network, considering the interests and responsibilities of those involved for the generation of mutual value as well as the inter-organizational relationships. Originality/Value: As PSS as a business model is a promising field of study, this paper devotes more attention on developing this kind of business model.","PeriodicalId":54139,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Operations & Production Management","volume":"51 8","pages":"1-18"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72410935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Design/Methodology/Approach: A literature review was conducted on the subject's constructs, with subsequent reasoning grounded on the fleet's characteristics and data obtained from in-depth interviews from a government transportation agency. Results: The results show Brazil's contextual evidence that risk management for the haulage sector should consider air pollution's negative impacts. With air quality standards as an essential reference, it is possible to observe that the city of Uberlândia does not effectively manage air quality. Limitations of investigation: One limitation of this research is related to the representativeness of the sample. The research also recommends future studies to use government policies for the improvement of the framework. Practical implications: The local and contextual addressing of air pollution and transport correlation in one focal point for cargo transportation at a national level pontentially contributes to environmental public policies. Originality/value: Originality value resides in considering emissions from cargo vehicles as a significant factor in this process of air pollution in a specific context of a metropolitan area of an emerging economy that has its transportation modal grounded on trucking freight.","PeriodicalId":54139,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Operations & Production Management","volume":"35 1","pages":"1-17"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81387635","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
