Two P. ciliata species were collected in 2016 spring season from local natural rangelands. The phenotypic variations were assessed by measuring the main root length, number of stems (spikes), length of the longest stem, number of leaves, and length of the longest leaf as well as the fresh weight of the whole plant. Moreover, the genotypic variations were assessed by using the RAPD technique. Data on phenotypic traits were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) procedure. Cluster analysis supported similarity matrices was additionally deployed on phenotypic data using the Un-Weighted Pair Group Methodology with Arithmetic mean (UPGMA) to get a dendrogram. The results showed significant variations (P ≤ 0.05) in the P. ciliata phenotypic traits within and between the two studied populations. The general pattern of the variation between the two populations showed that the highest measurements were recorded by plant population collected from location I, while the lowest measurements were recorded by population collected from location II. Out of the five APOM, random primers applied, two primers showed amplification in the two populations, while three primers did not show any amplification in any of the populations. Out of these five primers, two primers showed polymorphism and two primers gave the variation in bands. In conclusion, the findings of this study are important for breeding programs and biodiversity conservation in Ha’il Region, Saudi Arabia.","PeriodicalId":54108,"journal":{"name":"Entomology and Applied Science Letters","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70815745","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The granary weevil primarily affects barley crop at storage. Due to this reason, an experiment was carried out by using Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with three replications. The work was designed with the objectives to identify resistance potential of barley varieties against weevil (Sitophilus granarius) damage and to identify the quantity and physical quality loss of barley varieties against storage weevils. For analysis of variance percentage of weight loss, percent of damaged seeds, and many weevils, data was collected. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) of the collected data revealed a highly significant difference (P<0.0001) among the studied varieties for the percent of damaged seeds and percentage of weight loss, whereas the number of weevils among the tested varieties was non-significantly different. The results of this study show that Sitophilus granarius can bring 12.1-25.91% and 3.17-6.17% of both quantity and quality losses respectively on barley crop at storage. The mean comparison between improved barley varieties (Holker, IBON 174/03 and HB 1966) and local variety shows a significant difference for the percent of damaged seeds and percentage of weight loss, but the non-significant difference for HB 1307 barley variety. Among the studied barley varieties, IBON 174/03 variety revealed high susceptibility to granary weevil. Generally, in this study, the local barley variety manifested resistant potential than improved barley varieties to granary weevil infestation for both quantity and quality loss.","PeriodicalId":54108,"journal":{"name":"Entomology and Applied Science Letters","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70808685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To explore the physical and mental health impacts of long term use of visual display terminals on the population in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It was a cross sectional study;the method of non-probability convenient sampling was used to collect data on 503 subjects, in Jeddah city through online-Google forms. Data collection was done through the use of a predesigned questionnaire that provided information on individual, sociodemographic, and clinical features of the subjects as well as information on the aspects of use of VDT. Statistical analysis: data analysis was performed in SPSS version 23. The sample size was 503 subjects with mean age of 31.95 +/- 12.51 years, 98% of them used VDTs. They used it almost every day (mean=6.6 +/- 1 days), for about 8 hours per day (mean=8.2 +/- 4.1 hours). Students and office employees used the VDT > 7 hours/day. Almost, all the subjects (99%) used smart phones. Headache, neck pain and shoulder pain, lower back pain, dryness of the eye and interrupted sleep were common complaints among VDT users. It also, interfered with their daily life activities. In principal component factor analysis, duration of use of VDT in hours/day (weight = 0.710), and days/week (weight = 0.724) were significantly loaded on one factor;however, no other variables had weight greater than 0.3 on this factor.","PeriodicalId":54108,"journal":{"name":"Entomology and Applied Science Letters","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70825275","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
