Die Pantomime wurde 1914 uraufgeführt, erschien im gleichen Jahr aber auch als gedruckter Text. Ausgehend vom Konzept der intermedialen Referenz werden zwei Aspekte von Saltens Pantomimentext in den analytischen Vordergrund gerückt: (1) die Pantomime als metatheatraler Kommentar zur historischen Gattungstradition und (2) die intermediale Beziehung zum neuen Medium des Stummfilms. At the beginning of the twentieth century, early film carved out new possibilities for the human sensorium. Many writers regarded the camera as a new aesthetic instrument, which redefined the common perception and understanding of the world. This is achieved by collecting all the attestations of these predicates in the given corpus and analyzing their semantics and distribution over the centuries. This article aims to examine how Anne Bannerman (?1765-1829) uses the ballad form to write fictional history. Her collection of original ballads, Tales of Superstition and Chivalry (1802), draws from the margins of the past and creates supernaturally informed historical tales. I argue that Bannerman weaves together gender, Gothic and history to demonstrate that historical retrieval is only possible through the use of the imagination. In analysing the interrelation between the text and paratext, I demonstrate how she construes an open-ended narrative to suggest that all historical record is an interpretation. While most research in the field of Jesuit theater focusses on the first centuries of the order, disregarding the eighteenth century because of its decreased social relevance, this article surveys significant changes in the eighteenth-century plays. Although the continuities of baroque spectacle in the different phases of the order have been accepted, Tjoelker (2016) shows the French classical influence on poetical texts of Jesuits in German regions. Quantitative data on the choice of English as the language of instruction form the starting point for the debate on advantages and disadvantages of this development. In view of this discussion, it is interesting to gain more insight into how English is used in higher education in practice. This paper is devoted to a case study at Hasselt University. We focus on aspects of English as the medium of instruction in relation to the quality of education and phenomena that occur in the practice of teaching. Only recently European scholars more attention has been paid to the non-agrarian rural population, who did not possess large land properties and had to rely on their craftsmanship and the provisioning of goods and services as their primary source of income. Similar studies on the existence and social and economic strategies of the non-agrarian rural population on the Flemish countryside are still lacking. The aim of this paper is to contribute to our general understanding of the economics ot village artisans, retailers and service providers by looking at a specific case-study.
