Su estudio puede ser abordado desde múltiples y diversas perspectivas, sobre todo reconociendo la importancia que reviste en el desarrollo educativo de un país. Precisamente, en el presente texto se analiza la función e importancia de la figura del profesorado desde la justicia social y la justicia curricular, dos conceptos potentes que nos hacen volcar la mirada en las prácticas pedagógicas que desarrollan las y los docentes en los centros escolares; en el tipo de formación que se le brindan a los niños, a los jóvenes; en la consciencia que se les configura desde los espacios educativos institucionales. Destacan en este abordaje las tradiciones de Alemania, Francia, Estados Unidos y Latinoamérica. Las concepciones sobre la pedagogía que se han venido configurando a lo largo de la historia de la educación difieren en las diversas regiones y países. Es por ello que un análisis minucioso, detallado y profundo de la configuración epistémica de la noción de pedagogía requiere tener en cuenta no sólo la propia dimensión epistémica de la misma sino además su dimensión geográfica. En este artículo se reflexiona sobre los componentes del currículo: los propósitos formativos y los contenidos de aprendizaje. Para tal fin, se considera, en primer lugar, la noción de calidad educativa, en lo referente con sus principios y características fundamentales. En segundo lugar,  se puntualiza la pedagogía basada en competencias como nueva  tendencia educativa en el siglo XXI. Finalmente, se explica de manera general cómo se articula y se puede aplicar este enfoque pedagógico.
