Following a morphological taxonomic study supported by new field collections, P. suffruticosa is confirmed as an accepted species endemic to southern India and Sri Lanka, and as distinct from P. pilosa and P. tuberosa. The more recently described species P. lakshminarasimhaniana and P. laljii are considered to be conspecific with P. suffruticosa, and P. badamica conspecific with P. tuberosa; their names are accordingly synonymised. Lectotypifications of the names P. suffruticosa Wight, P. tuberosa Roxb. and P. wightiana Wall. ex Wight & Arn. were found to be necessary to avoid future misapplication of names and full descriptions of these three species are provided. A key to all Indian species of Portulaca is provided.
","PeriodicalId":53662,"journal":{"name":"Feddes Repertorium","volume":"133 2","pages":"128-140"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44690600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The two new species are placed in subsect. Asterotricha (Boiss.) Gürke, because of the asterotrichous indumentum (stellate trichomes) of their basal leaves. An extensive review of the literature and comparison with specimens from various European and Asiatic herbaria led to the recognition of these novelties. Our argument for these innovations is based on observation of significant differences in taxonomically important morphological characters including trichome type, shape and size of basal and cauline leaves, shape and size of calyx and corolla, annulus hairs, anther length, connection type and degree of exsertion, and nutlet morphology. The diagnostic morphological characters of closely related species are discussed, and for each new species a detailed description and details of distribution and conservation status are provided. An updated synoptical key to the species known from the Flora Iranica region and Atropatene sub-province is provided.
","PeriodicalId":53662,"journal":{"name":"Feddes Repertorium","volume":"133 3","pages":"173-193"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42293326","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Karapuzha Dam is 700 to 2061 metres above sea level and is a part of Western Ghats. Thirty-nine taxa of desmids were identified from Karapuzha Dam of Wayanad district from June 2019 to May 2020. The collection comprises ten genera of 39 desmids, including 24 species of Cosmarium, 5 Staurastrum, 2 Closterium, 2 Euastrum, 1 Gonatozygon, 1 Triplastrum, 1 Penium, 1 Spondylosium, 1 Micrasterias and 1 Arthrodesmus. Among these, Cosmarium regnesi var. montanum is new to India, 8 taxa are new to Kerala and 2 taxa are new to South India. Some rare and high altitude distributed species are found in the study. This desmid diversity relates to the oligotrophic nature of the dam. Examination of specimens in the field or various herbaria and critical surveys of type specimens and previous literature represented that S. paradoxa and S. papposa possessed a considerable overlap in the morphology and geographic distribution, and consequently, S. paradoxa was confirmed as a synonym of S. papposa. We also found that S. papposa and S. paradoxa were morphologically different from S. picridioides in plant height, shape of basal leaves, color of florets, color of anther tube, and pappus bristles, thus, S. picridioides was re-established as an independent species. In accordance with a recent taxonomic revision of subtribe Scorzonerinae that split Scorzonera s. l. into independent genera and placed S. papposa in genus Pseudopodospermum, we proposed the placement of S. picridioides in Pseudopodospermum, and provided an updated morphological description and geographic distribution notes for Pseudopodospermum papposum and Pseudopodospermum picridioides.
","PeriodicalId":53662,"journal":{"name":"Feddes Repertorium","volume":"133 2","pages":"152-161"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49206206","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
