This article presents the VILA (Valuable Insights from Log Analysis) Framework, a conceptual framework that structures how valuable insights can be generated from log analysis to support Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) practices. The design, development, and evaluation process is centered in the pragmatic research paradigm and follows the Design Science Research (DSR) methodology. Existing literature was reviewed to formulate building blocks and design requirements for the VILA Framework. The VILA Framework was evaluated and applied through expert reviews and an industry case study. Relevance cycles assessed and refined the VILA Framework. This article presents the main concepts, categories, and sub-concepts to derive valuable insights towards potential improvements of log-generating Apps. The VILA Framework focused on the quantitative log data concepts; however, it acknowledges the essential qualitative concepts needed to derive value from the log data. Despite its limitations, the VILA Framework provides a starting point for researchers to structure and implement log analyses beyond descriptive statistics towards increased or improved M&E practices.","PeriodicalId":53637,"journal":{"name":"Icon","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73710724","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on survey data from manufacturing companies operating in Germany (N=111) collected in December 202l/January 2022, we present how the perceived level of circular economy, via the implementation of circularity into operations, products and services, influences the company's perceived competitiveness on the level of product/service innovativeness. The results indicate that employees in the companies perceive that the level of circular economy implementation (i.e., implementing circularity into operations, products and services) has a significant influence on the perceived product/service innovativeness and perceived competitiveness of companies that have already incorporated circular economy into their strategy. Furthermore, the data indicate that fostering a circular economy-oriented business culture alone is no longer enough for ensuring competitiveness.","PeriodicalId":53637,"journal":{"name":"Icon","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74253364","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, digital learning has also been introduced; it is a learning vehiculated utilizing technology. With the current COVID 19 crisis, digital learning has become the best learning method by South African institutions by excellence, but how ready are they, though? This is the question this study attempts to answer. The study follows a case study approach on a South African University located in Johannesburg. A convenience sample was used with 168 students from the faculty of engineering that took part in the study. Data were collected using a questionnaire that was administered to the respondents. The questionnaire collected the respondents' demographical information, awareness of digital learning, and accessibility to digital learning tools. The data collected were captured on Microsoft Excel before being analyzed with SPSS for further results. The study revealed that most of the respondents are aware of digital learning even though it is not implemented in all modules at the University. Accessibility to essential tools to digital learning such as the internet and the devices to connect is still a big challenge for students mainly as most of them cannot afford the internet-connected devices. Although the general perspective is that higher institutions in South Africa are not yet ready for digital learning due to the infrastructure availability, many practices toward digital learning are being implemented. There are high hopes to believe in well-implemented digital learning Universities in the next decades.","PeriodicalId":53637,"journal":{"name":"Icon","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85145481","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, many manufacturers have intensified their search for methods on more precise predictions for In-Service Support (ISS) planning of a system. A methodology for preparation of ISS is Integrated Product Support (IPS). IPS, previously Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), is used in aerospace and defense since 1960s. The performance of IPS especially in the early life cycle phases concept, development, and production must be measured to achieve good performance in IPS and ISS and so in overall system availability in utilization phase. Established system measures used in IPS, e.g., reliability, maintainability, availability, affordability (or life cycle costing), etc. are good in utilization phase but have weaknesses in early life cycle phases. While this is known but poorly documented, it was found in an earlier paper that these weaknesses are significant and so are questioning the suitability for use in IPS. As a result, new IPS specific measures have been developed which are quantifiable and tangible with the intention to remove known weaknesses in early life cycle phases. This paper presents the new IPS measures with reference to the ASD IPS Suite and discusses their applicability in IPS.","PeriodicalId":53637,"journal":{"name":"Icon","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80999111","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this rural region, a main business activity is the conversion of waste products from fish production to food pellets for trout and tilapia. Although technology transfer is essential to advance rural enterprises in such economies, little is known about the interaction between rural cooperatives and the entities that can provide technological assistance - universities, governments, and non-governmental organizations. The empirical literature, derived from studies of technology transfer in developed economies, emphasizes the importance of various features that facilitate the transfer of technology: geographic and cultural proximity between participants, the recipients' absorptive capacity, and a clear understanding of the technology's source, market maturity, and financial implications. This paper contributes to this literature with its identification and examination of additional features (i.e. enablers) that are particularly relevant to technology transfer in rural regions of developing economies. The paper, which reports on a three-year case study conducted in the Cauca region in southern Colombia, identifies three enablers in technology transfer that can help compensate for the technology recipients' unfamiliarity with the technology appropriate for their business activities.","PeriodicalId":53637,"journal":{"name":"Icon","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79525548","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, existing industrial policy is based on a high-level approach that can misdirect intervention related to the sector by overlooking potential only pointed out by more detailed analysis. This study applies developed tools for effective and nuanced policy making. The Input-Output Product Space (IOPS) method framework was employed to determine forestry sector policy targets on a product category level across 10 SADC countries. Out of 38 product categories, the six top-performing categories were: wood wool and wood flour; filter blocks, slabs and plates of paper pulp; glazed paper; plans and drawings on paper; paper, paperboard coated with kaolin or organic substances; and transfers (decalcomanias). The IOPS analysis proved to be useful as a quantitative starting point for policy discussions, being more detailed than current policy documents. In-depth market research and further qualitative analysis should follow the application of the IOPS framework for effective policy-making.","PeriodicalId":53637,"journal":{"name":"Icon","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85776859","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on ISO 56002:2019 framework, we propose a self-assessment model for evaluating innovation management systems of science and technology institutions (STIs), integrating the Analytic Network Process (ANP) and the Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) methods. This model's applicability could be demonstrated in the context of a government STI in Brazil. The proposed conceptual model and the empirical results concerning this application may help established STIs identify critical issues and opportunities for strengthening their capacity to manage innovation processes better to achieve the intended outcomes. Finally, the potential contributions of the proposed self-assessment model for the continuous improvement of innovation management systems of science and technology institutions are discussed.","PeriodicalId":53637,"journal":{"name":"Icon","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82425967","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, using a patent to innovate through technology transfer is a complex process, full of uncertainties, and there is not a well-defined process available that enables entrepreneurs to develop business models based on patents. Therefore, this study aims to develop a methodology to support entrepreneurs in the development of businesses from patents available in technology transfer programs. The P2B methodology was developed within two research steps. Firstly, based on a structured literature review and on the case study analysis of the European Space Agency Business Incubation Center (ESA BIC), an initial conceptualization of the methodology was developed. Secondly, data was collected throughout thirteen semi-structured interviews with experts in technology transfer and management, innovation, and business model development to create the final proposed P2B methodology. The P2B methodology addresses the inherent challenges of the innovative business development process, specific to the technology transfer context, by providing a set of twenty-three activities, supported by sixteen tools, divided into four major phases: technology analysis, value analysis, business model, and business plan.","PeriodicalId":53637,"journal":{"name":"Icon","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82270834","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Notwithstanding all the progress and interest ported to the development of innovative and efficient career and vocational guidance, in the human-computer interaction domain, several questions remain unanswered. One of these questions regards the direct and indirect effects such systems can have on the user's decision-making process during his vocational and/or career projects. So far, the evaluation of user impact evaluation is limited, making it an area that needs further investigation. In this context, this work presents a survey instrument to evaluate the impact of CACGs on high school students based on the system utility attributes, hedonic attributes, and social/engagement attributes. This study contributes to the general body of knowledge on Computer-assisted Career Guidance Systems by providing a comprehensive theoretical foundation and practical implications that illuminate the sustained use of CACGs.","PeriodicalId":53637,"journal":{"name":"Icon","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78967741","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
