Its architectures, brought back to light at different times, were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List on 6th December 1997 and present today different problems of conserva- tion and accessibility influenced by the operations related to its discovery and by the territorial context. The Oplontis’ site rises in a degraded context of the city of Torre Annunziata (NA), poorly served by infrastructures and services able to connect it to the nearby archaeological area of Pompeii and to the main tourist flows. Although the city is generally known worldwide as the cradle of the Renaissance, most of the city walls of the historic center date back to the latest building transformations. Through the study of the main urban transformations carried out under the government of Pietro Leopoldo up to the assignment of Florence as the capital of the kingdom of Italy, this contribution traces the urban evolution of the modern history of Florence and reflects on the image of today's city, a result of the stratification of the epochs. It includes the Church of the Madonna delle Vergini (caved into the stone as a lot of dwellings in the Sassi and mentioned in documents as far back as the 16th century), the only rupestrian church open to cult of faithful until today. A place of historical and artistic memory, it is a synthesis of the territory's settlement modalities that describe the changes of times and cultures. In it are expressions of ancient popular traditions, now lost. The definition of criterion (ii) was modified from \"influence\" to \" interchange\" by the 1996 Operational Guide- lines. It is understandable that the view of World Heritage on cultural heritage has also changed from \"one direction\" cultural impact to \"cultural interaction\". Half a century after the adoption of the World Heritage Convention, it is necessary to review whether this criterion is properly applied to cultural heritage. But, for a considerable number of listed sites, there is a gap in the recognition and interpretation of the value of criterion (ii) and the site. This paper recognizes the basic notion of \"exchange of human values”, which has not been studied before and uses the evolutionary chronology of criterion (ii) to interpret the intent of the change. This reddish rock which is particularly suitable for carving, is extremely interactive with water. It was beneficial for the impressive excavation phases, but is now problematic for conservation purposes. Digging meant either the penetration of water into the massif and its erosion, but also the protection of the monuments from water stagnation. This is a very paradoxical situation in which water plays an alternately positive and negative role. XX, the remains of the Roman Villa del Casale (4th century AD), with rich mosaic floors, were discovered. After the first restoration, in the mid-fifties of the cen. XX, the architect Minissi and C. Brandi designed a stable protection and system for the use of the remains of the villa. The roof was made with modern materials: aluminum profiles and sheets of glass and perspex, which evoked the ancient volumes, while maintaining the authenticity of the remains. The arrangement, due to lack of maintenance, has been a source of deterioration for the mosaics, and in fact since 2007 the works for their destruction and replacement have begun, according to a project (commissioner V. Sgarbi, arch. G. Meli) that requires a vision both external and internal unsatisfactory. The research program has analyzed the traditional economic and social context of the centre of Florence in relation to the city’s urban zoning and building facades. The study highlighted the need to integrate the documentation and survey phases of the physical realities of the places of commerce with the recording of intangible cultural heritage. The latter are strongly interlinked with the authenticity of a place its features, whose disappearance may irreversibly change the environment itself. In this research we explore what these changes have been, the state of the art of rock art worldwide, and what are the trends towards the future of heritage declarations, delving into the specific case of outdoor rock art, since its fragile and accessible nature requires specific management plans appropriate to its needs and characteristics, and how the growing trend of naming cultural landscapes as world heritage can be a powerful tool for the conservation, protection and dissemination of these heritage assets and their environments. The main objective of our research lies on the identification of the main features of open-air rock art on the UNESCO World Heritage List, establishing their current situation as to their preservation and social awareness and the policies developed in each particular case. The development of typological features of this kind of factory involved a high level of specialization of its spaces, but it led also to a lowered interior flexibility that makes particularly difficult its re-use after the building disposal.
