Its interest turns out to be greater given that the finding of such old textile pieces and of such dimensions is rare, and in good condition even less. \u0000 \u0000It is a piece of linen woven by hand, on a vertical loom, where the threads have also been spun by hand. Although macroscopically it appears to be in a good state of conservation, the microscopic study reveals a contamination by microorganisms, so it is advisable to improve the conditions of conservation, to avoid the progression of its deterioration with the passage of time. \u0000 \u0000It presents a certain degree of inorganic contamination, due mostly to particles formed by calcite idiomorphic crystals, derived from an initial contamination with lime that, over time, ends up evolving in situ to calcium carbonate. We also find quartz particles (round and angular) and microcrystals of salt. \u0000 \u0000The conclusions lead us to establish that we are faced with an ancient and affected fabric of biodegradation, which has resided in an underground space within a desert climate environment.

EnglishThis research study aims to approach the conceptions and knowledge of History students about different aspects in relation to sexual inequality in ancient Rome. By means of the elaboration and implementation of a questionnaire based on a Likert rating scale, the reactions of the students are analysed. The propositions offered to the students address aspects such as inequality in the access to political power structures, legal rights or the economic activities developed by women in the Roman period. The student’s responses reveal that these are aspects barely included in the university programmes on ancient Rome, which have been traditionally characterised by an androcentric bias as it occurs also in many other areas of knowledge. These results also highlight the necessity to continue developing knowledge about the historic inequality between women and men and also of the incorporation of this knowledge in the study programmes.

EnglishEpigraphy is a reliable sample of the culture which it belongs to, because it allows us to study the social relations between the conserved text and the epoch which it is inser ted in. The two Hispanic inscriptions that we are going to analyze are dated in the period of the Late Middle Ages, in a purely Christian context. They recognize prayers that are significant in relation to the situation which they are located in, the Lisbon Cathedral, as they are used regularly within the Hispanic monastic office, also taking into account the peculiarity that its stone support simulates a prayer book. Until now, both inscriptions have been studied from the epigraphic point of view, but in no case has its liturgical character been analyzed. It was found at some time between the late 1960s and mid-1980s, near Molata de Casa Vieja, one of the most important oppida in Alta Andalucia. The engraved bezel is of a schematic style, and derives from the iconic Iberian rider, ubiquitous on the pre–Roman coinage. It adds a new representation to this already rich corpus. The image of the rider was frequently used by the Iberian elite between the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC.
