However, in Latin America the subject is still little explored, despite the fact that several cases have been revealed that point to its strong presence in several cities in the region. In this sense, the objective of this article seeks to conceptualize transnational gentrification in Latin America through the case of San Miguel de Allende, as a starting point to understand the process that in the subcontinent. A mixed qualitative research was carried out on the main structuring fronts of transnational gentrification in the historic center of San Miguel. Latin American transnational gentrification presents a diverse combination of actors and factors compared to that of the central and peripheral countries of the global north. San Miguel de Allende case shows the central role of the state and the economic elites in the process and highlights the transforming power of an international middle class as agents of change in the urban order of tourist cities.","PeriodicalId":52799,"journal":{"name":"Iztapalapa","volume":"42 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83537787","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, the aim of the present paper is to analyze the way in which research on gentrification has been developed in Mexico and Spain, based on a comparative exercise that takes as reference four analytical axes: central location, patrimonialization and tourism, displacement and resistance. The methodology consisted of a large bibliographic review of academic research that had gentrification as a central argument. Among the findings of this document, convergences located in the central location of gentrification can be mentioned, as well as in its relationship with patrimonialization phenomena. While there were divergences in the way in which the displacement and resistance to the process are expressed by social movements.","PeriodicalId":52799,"journal":{"name":"Iztapalapa","volume":"21 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84591725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

I used the analytical method from the Modern World-System perspective and the functioning of capitalism, where I argued that the hegemony of the United States must be understood as the continuous articulation between 1) the permanent accumulation of collective power (which implies that the media spreads the “universal” project of the hegemon; the protagonism in the creation and functioning of the spaces of articulation and; maintenance of the geographical expansion of capital and asymmetric exchange) and 2) the permanent exercise of domination (it implies the control of the monetary system; maintenance of accumulation by dispossession and the administration and application of multilateral and unilateral force) that enables and encourages the hegemonic power to direct the Modern World-System towards the maintenance and expansion of capitalism. However, this aim faces a process of relative hegemonic decline.","PeriodicalId":52799,"journal":{"name":"Iztapalapa","volume":"22 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87176482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This particular feature, places this research on the border between two fields (electoral studies and social movements) that have remained with little communication between one and the other. Consequently, López Obrador’s presidential campaign must be approached not only with the traditional categories of political science, political communication or political marketing, its analysis requires a transdisciplinary approach that incorporates categories from the sociology of social movements. To fulfill this purpose, frame analysis is applied as a perspective that allows the investigation of public discourse, of different actors (candidates, social movements, journalists) and their messages (political spots, protest, news). It is concluded that López Obrador ́s campaign communication revolved around fourth transformation frame, and that this framework was built and communicated, through a set of framing mechanisms: metaphors, slogans, famous phrases, anecdotes and examples of collective memory.","PeriodicalId":52799,"journal":{"name":"Iztapalapa","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82330068","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Faced with this problem, there is a social need to redensify the city center, which has served to justify real estate speculation processes. The projection of a “Villa Panamericana” in 2011 was a turning point in the gentrification of downtown. A combination of neighborhood opposition and institutional disarray made the project fail, not without some city center areas being affected by expropriations and property destruction. The failed project has now been recycled under the Ciudad Creativa Digital brand, reactivating the fear of expulsion in the residents. Based on qualitative research with more than a dozen neighbors and activists, this work aims to analyze the speeches of some downtown residents, especially concerned about the urban transformations in the heart of Guadalajara. The work focuses on analyzing the civic discourse in defense of the territory, very critical of the institutional discourses that legitimize the urban transformation of this part of the city.","PeriodicalId":52799,"journal":{"name":"Iztapalapa","volume":"188 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75133952","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
