One of the problems with peatlands is the degression in the quality of peat water, which has a negative impact on ecology and human health as well as the welfare of local communities who depend on peat water as a source of clean water. The problem of peat water processing lies in the need for large capacity, ease of maintenance, and water quality that meets standard criteria. The aim of this research is to evaluate the combination of filtration, absorption, and double flow ultrafiltration techniques, and compare them with single flow ultrafiltration techniques for treating peat water in the South Kalimantan region of Indonesia by looking at the amount of production and quality of water treatment results. This research proposes dual flow ultrafiltration as a solution for treating peat water on a large scale up to 2 times and results in better water quality than single flow ultrafiltration treatment. This is indicated by the percentage difference in TDS reduction of 19.5%, color of 23.1%, nitrite of 37.8%, and manganese of 69%. However, the dual flow ultrafiltration method still has a higher turbidity of around 60.65% and nitrate of about 15%. However, these water treatment results are still standardized by the Indonesia Minister of Health PERMENKES No.492/MENKES/PER/IV/2010.","PeriodicalId":52648,"journal":{"name":"Ecological Engineering Environmental Technology","volume":"135 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135472266","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In-situ data was taken in July 2023 at 18 sampling sites, including temperature, DO, pH, TDS, and water transparency. In-situ data is also used to develop and validate algorithms for estimating water quality from satellite remote sensing data. Multi-temporal Landsat-8 satellite imagery was used to spatially and temporally map the surface water quality of Lake Sentani. In-situ data showed temperature, DO, pH, TDS, and water transparency ranging from 29.3°C to 31.8°C, 1.7 mg/L to 7.9 mg/L, 7.75 to 8.64, 23 mg/L to 46 mg/L, and 2.28 m to 2.94 m, respectively. Only water transparency does not meet the quality standards for water quality (class 1 and class 2), while the other parameters meet class 1 to class 3 quality standards for surface water samples. The accuracy of the algorithm used and the resulting one has a low Mean Absolute Error value, namely 0.81 (temperature), 0.37 (DO), 4.84 (TDS), and 0.12 (water transparency). The temperature and TDS concentrations from the satellite imagery data ranged from 28.110°C to 33.918°C, and 7.829 mg/L to 102.702 mg/L, respectively. Both of these parameters still meet water quality standards. The DO concentrations ranged from 2.228 mg/L to 12.562 mg/L, and water transparency ranged from 0.424 m to 3.151 m. The concentration of DO and water transparency do not meet qual - ity standards in several parts of Lake Sentani, especially in November and August.","PeriodicalId":52648,"journal":{"name":"Ecological Engineering Environmental Technology","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135924956","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Strong negative IOD occurred in 2016. However, none of the previous studies investigated its effect on the seas of Southern Java. This study aims to reveal the influence of the strong negative IOD in 2016 on the upwelling intensity along the seas of Southern Java as represented by surface temperature and chlorophyll-a. This research was conducted using satellite-based data and the analysis was based on climatology, and anomaly for 15 years (2007–2021). The data used includes sea surface temperature (OISST), wind (ASCAT), IOD index (DMI), chlorophyll-a (OC-CCI), and sea level anomaly (altimetry). The findings show that the strong negative IOD in 2016 had a significant impact on sea surface temperatures which made these waters warmer. The most visible impact is through the sea surface temperature anomaly map where in 2016 throughout the year it experienced a positive anomaly with a value of 2°C higher than the climatological average. The value of chlorophyll-a in these waters has also dropped drastically which, when viewed from the anomaly map, has a value of 0.2 mg/m³ lower than the climatological average, especially during the upwelling month. This means that, strong negative IOD in 2016 reduced the upwelling intensity along the seas of Southern Java. We also found the propagation of downwelling Kelvin waves from the Indian Ocean to the Southern Java waters which bring warm temperatures and cause downwelling events during the strong negative IOD in 2016 that hampers coastal upwelling along the seas of Southern Java.","PeriodicalId":52648,"journal":{"name":"Ecological Engineering Environmental Technology","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135924955","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The treatment process took place between wastewater and green algae when the latter reached a stable stage to ensure its high treatment capacity and the best possible life span. Where the measurements were made for the characteristics of the treated water in addition to the biochemical measurements of the algae on the 4th and 8th day of the biological treatment. A study of the growth curve of C. vulgaris showed that the growth phase started on day 6, reached stability on day 12, then reached the death phase on day 19, and continued to decline until the death of the alga. The results of the study showed the value of what was contained in the wastewater before the treatment process, as it was as follows: total hydrocarbons (5.38 mg/l), as for the biochemical properties of algae before exposure to wastewater, they were as follows: superoxide dismutase enzyme (1.2197 U/mg), catalase enzyme (0.6023 U/mg), total chlorophyll (6.1503 mg/g). After the wastewater treatment process was completed, the high ability of green algae to remove hydrocarbon pollutants from the water was shown, at a rate of 72.3–64.5%, respectively. The results of the study showed the effect of sewage water on some physiological characteristics of algae, as it showed an increase in the activity of SOD after 4 days of treatment to reach 1.33 U/mg, while the activity decreased on the 8th day to reach 1.289 U/mg, as for the CAT enzyme It appeared in the same way as the previous enzyme, as its effectiveness increased after 4 days of treatment to reach 0.6916 U/mg, and decreased on the last day to reach 0.5476 U/mg, while with regard to the value of chlorophyll, the value of chlorophyll a decreased to reach 1.9473 mg/g in the last day, while on the contrary, the value of chlorophyll b increased to reach 4.5369 mg/g in the last day, while for total chlorophyll its value increased to reach 6.4842 mg/g in the last day.","PeriodicalId":52648,"journal":{"name":"Ecological Engineering Environmental Technology","volume":"117 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136100468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each region has a specific N/P ratio, due to the influence of anthropogenic inputs. This study aimed to assess the response of phytoplankton chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) biomass due to differences in N/P ratio by the influence of river flow in the north coast of Java; Jobokuto Bay (Jepara), the coastal waters of Semarang and the front of the Cisadane river. N-nutrients were analyzed in the form of N-NO 3 (nitrate), and N-NH 4+ (ammonium ions), and orthophosphate ions (P-PO 42). Nutrient analysis was spectrometric, using the reduction methods (nitrate), ammonium (indophenol-blue), and phosphate (molybdenum-blue). Test for site differences using Kruskall-Wallis, followed by a posthoc test. The results showed that Semarang waters had a lower N/P (Stoichiometric) ratio than Jepara and Cisadane, which can be used to predict that P nutrient input is higher than N. This high P input impacts microalgal develop - ment (chlorophyll-a). In addition, we also found Semarang waters to have higher speciation of inorganic N in the form of ammonium, which is one of the drivers of eutrophication in these waters. The use of a ratio of N/P is very important in estimating the eutrophication process and can be used to estimate the dominance of nutrients entering the water due to anthropogenic activities in the upstream area.","PeriodicalId":52648,"journal":{"name":"Ecological Engineering Environmental Technology","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134990386","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
