Kıbrıs adası ve Kıbrıs Yayı; Afrika, Avrasya ve Arap levhalarının kesiştiği bölgede Alp-Himalaya Orojenez Kuşağı’nın bir üyesidir. Bundan dolayı Kıbrıs Adası ve çevresi sismik açıdan aktif bir bölgedir. Depremlerin sismik özellikleri ve mekânsal ilişkilerinin ortaya konulması o bölgedeki fay sisteminin ve tektonizmanın işleyişi hakkında bilgiler vermektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı Kıbrıs Adası ve çevresinde depremlerin zamansal ve mekânsal dağılımını jeoistatistiksel yöntemlerle ortaya koyarak sismik aktivitenin fay hatları ile olan ilişkisinin açıklanmasıdır. Böylece Kıbrıs Adası ve çevresinde depremlerin mekânsal yoğunluğu Kernel yoğunluk fonksiyonundan yararlanılarak belirlenmiştir. Depremlerin mekânsal kümelenme özellikleri Anselin Yerel Moran’ın I ve Getis-Ord-Gi* Kümelenme Analizleri kullanılarak hesaplanmıştır. Ayrıca çalışma alanında depremlerin zamansal-mekânsal değişimleri, standart sapma elipsi, ortalama merkezi ve medyan merkezi hesaplanarak ortaya konulmuştur. Çalışmada elde edilen sonuçlar depremlerin Kıbrıs Yayı’nın batısında ve Kıbrıs Adasının güneybatısında yoğunlaştığını göstermiştir. Kıbrıs Adası ve çevresinde depremlerin mekânsal kümelenme özelliklerine bakıldığında kuzeybatıda küçük depremlerin, güneydoğuda ise büyük depremlerin kümelenme gösterdiği tespit edilmiştir. Kıbrıs Adası’nın güneyindeki depremlerin mekânsal yoğunluğu fazla olmasına rağmen bu bölgede küçük veya büyük depremlerin anlamlı bir kümelenmesi test edilememiştir. Son olarak bu çalışmada Kıbrıs Adası ve çevresinde gerçekleşen depremlerin yıllar arasında mekânsal ortalama ve ortanca merkezlerinin Kıbrıs Yayı boyunca doğu-batı yönlerinde yer değiştirdiği ortaya konulmuştur.","PeriodicalId":52537,"journal":{"name":"Yerbilimleri/ Earth Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67440665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During the field studies, 14 rock blocks that were in danger of falling were identified and geometric measurements for each of the rock blocks were made. By using field measurements, the rock blocks are modeled their geometric properties in the RAMMS program and a total of 1400 rockfall simulations, 100 from each of the modeled blocks were carried out on the high-resolution DTM. Thus, the kinetic energy, jump height, velocity, and fall trajectories of each rock block were determined. According to the results, the rock blocks that are close to the settlements are damped without being transported to very long distances. These blocks do not constitute significant risks since having values such as low energy, speed, and jump height. However, the rock blocks of equant shape and high volume, located on the northwest slopes above the settlements, constitute a significant risk. These rock blocks move for long distances depend on their geometric properties and geomorphological characteristics of the study area and their energy is absorbed in contact with houses, roads, etc., structures, or in places where the slope decreases on the topography. To prevent the danger of rock blocks in this area, retaining walls have 142 m long and 1.5 m wide were created within the rockfall models. According to the results of these models, while a 5 m high retaining wall in areas close to the source of rock blocks, a 3 m high retaining wall far from the source areas stops the progress of the rock blocks.","PeriodicalId":52537,"journal":{"name":"Yerbilimleri/ Earth Sciences","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48546891","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Particle Flow Code software, which is based on the discrete element method, is used in many studies on rock mechanics. Using Particle Flow Code, rock behaviour under different stress conditions can be modelled and analysed in both two and three dimensions. Rocks can be presented by an assembly of disks in two dimensions and spherical particles in three dimensions. These particles are bonded to each other by contact models with different micromechanical properties. Model failure occurs as a result of the fracturing with the rupture of these bonds. Using parameters such as density, strength, deformation, which can be defined as the mathematical expression of the natural properties of rock samples, a representative models can be created by following multi-stage calibration procedure and used for different research purposes. In order to have a representative model, chosen contact models should be mimic the failure behaviour of the rock material. For this purpose, calibrated models were created for both PBM (Parallel-bonded model) and FJM (Flat-jointed model) using the experimental results of the unconfined compressive strength test of Hawkesbury sandstone in the laboratory. In the calibration phase, the results obtained from the models were compared against micromechanical data obtained from the laboratory experiments such as elasticity modulus, uniaxial compressive strength, tensile strength, and Poisson ratio. Results were evaluated by considering the displacement vectors, force chains, and crack parameters in terms of resolution and representativeness of the failure behaviour. The results of PBM and FJM model results were similar for displacement vector direction and orientation and distribution of the forces effective in breaking the bonds which is force chain. However, in terms of fracture resolution and localization, FJM provides detailed results, of which could be very useful for comprehensive studies.","PeriodicalId":52537,"journal":{"name":"Yerbilimleri/ Earth Sciences","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48619697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While the land and Saros part of the fault exhibit an asismic (non-earthquake producing) behavior, the part in the Marmara Sea has a very intense earthquake activity. It is clear that the differences in the geometric and physical properties of the fault and the changing stress conditions along the fault can create such behavioral differences. MONGAN seismic observation array consists of a total of 40 stations on the land of the Ganos Fault and has collected data for about 3 years. It is expected that the obtained data will contribute both to the physical properties of the fault and to the seismicity that occurs. In the first part of the study, which consists of two contiguous articles, which are the continuation of each other, the distribution of the seismic array and the data quality are emphasized. The second part consists mostly of primary data analysis and seismological evaluations (Yalçınkaya et al. 2022). In the study where two different types of sensors and recorders were used, it was determined that 4,5 Hz Geophone sensor and CUBE recorder provided much higher data collection efficiency than 1 Hz Mark sensor and EDL recorder. It has been observed that both sensors are sensitive to ground vibrations up to 0,3 Hz frequencies, and instrument internal noises begin to dominate at lower frequencies. It has been calculated that the noise levels observed at the stations can allow to detect earthquakes up to negative magnitudes. It is seen that the bimaterial structure of the Ganos Fault will have significant effects both in terms of near surface effects and on records such as transformed wave phases and fault zone waves. The stations located in the southern block of the fault, which consists of younger and looser units, exhibit much longer recording times and much larger wave amplitudes than the stations located on the older and stiffer northern block. The ground resonance frequencies obtained from the H/V analyzes at the stations clearly reveal the two-block structure.","PeriodicalId":52537,"journal":{"name":"Yerbilimleri/ Earth Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47087333","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
