The genetic material of the virus in samples of respiratory secretions is identified by way of basic diagnostic tests. Due to the altered course of the respiratory tract, patients after total laryngectomy require special attention in the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection. We present a case of a patient after laryngectomy who obtained different results of COVID-19 tests depending on the site of sampling.

One of them was professor Władysław Dobrzaniecki. Of the 66 items written by W. Dobrzaniecki, 26 works concerned issues related to the head and neck. These works show that the main topic was plastic surgery, both aesthetic and reconstructive after extensive oncological operations. The scientific and professional career of such a talented surgeon was suddenly interrupted. At the age of 44, he was murdered by the Nazis, in Lviv on July 4, 1941, along with other professors.\u0000\u0000

In most of the cases, they present as a painless, fluctuant swelling, usually located in the neck region. They tend to grow extensively if not removed. Cystic hygromas can range from 1 mm to several centimeters in size and are filled with clear- to straw-colored fluid. Surgical treatment remains the gold-standard treatment for these tumors. In some cases they can be misdiagnosed with branchial cysts, swollen lymph nodes or other pathologies. When this malformation is present in the prevertebral fascia its surgical treatment is challenging, and some Authors advise its conservative treatment, which is in a great risk of its reoccurence. Because of potential malignant transformation in some percentage of branchial cyst cases, a similar situation was suspected. The present report describes a case of cystic hygroma of the left side of the neck in a 92-year-old female adult and its clinical, radiologic and operative features.\u0000\u0000

The primary use of NAC is to confirm allergy to a specific inhaled allergen. NAC reproduces the allergic reaction of the nasal mucosa under standardized and controlled conditions that occurs after direct intranasal administration of allergens. As the only used method for assessing the degree of allergy, it mimics the body’s natural response to the sensitizing factor in the early and late stages of an allergic reaction. NAC is used in the diagnosis of chronic, occupational and local rhinitis, as well as in the differential diagnosis of rhinitis and ophthalmic symptoms. Under conditions similar to natural exposure, it determines the relationship between the allergen and symptoms of allergic rhinitis, especially in the case of difficulties in interpreting the results of skin tests and the serum concentration of specific IgE. It is a truly valuable tool in determining the indications for immunotherapy and the selection of allergens for desensitization therapy. It also serves as a method of monitoring the effectiveness of immunotherapy and pharmacotherapy. For scientific purposes, NAC is used to study the mechanisms of an allergic reaction and the influence of various factors on its course. It is considered safe, but requires appropriate instruments and qualified personnel.\u0000\u0000

The disease mechanism is associated with anatomical changes after surgery (scope of surgery) or complications of adjuvant therapy (xerostomia, neuropathy, swelling of tissue, etc.). The above changes lead to: decreased mobility of the lateral walls of the pharynx and tongue retraction, the occurrence of lingual pumping, decreased swallowing reflex, weakening of the upper esophageal sphincter opening, contraction of the cricopharyngeal muscle, tissue fibrosis, formation of pharyngeal pseudodiverticulum, etc. As a result: regurgitation of food through the nose and oral cavity, food sticking in middle and lower pharynx, prolongation of bolus transit time. Upon the formation of tracheoesophageal fistula, there may be aspiration of gastric contents. The above changes considerably reduce patients’ quality of life after surgery. The diagnostic protocol includes: medical interview (questionnaires can be helpful such as: EAT 10, SSQ, MDADI, DHI), clinical swallowing assessment and instrumental examinations: primarily videofluoroscopy but also endoscopic evaluation of swallowing. In selected cases, multifrequency manometry is necessary. The treatment options include: surgical methods (e.g. balloon dilatation of the upper esophageal sphincter, cricopharyngeal myotomy, pharyngeal plexus neurectomy, removal of the pharyngeal pseudodiverticulum), conservative methods (e.g. botulinum toxin injection of the upper esophageal sphincter, speech therapy, nutritional treatment) and supportive methods such as consultation with a psychologis physiotherapist, clinical dietitian. The selection of a specific treatment method should be preceded by a diagnostic process in which the mechanism of functional disorders related to voice formation and swallowing will be established.\u0000\u0000

Lyme borreliosis is the most prevalent leptospirosis in the US and Europe. Due to the potential for serious complications and the lack of specific prevention, diagnostic vigilance is essential so as to ensure early diagnosis and implementation of treatment. The main pathogen-transmitting vector is the tick species Ixodex ricinus. The suborder of ticks (Ixodida) belongs to the Acari subclass of arachnids. The natural reservoir of B. burgdorferi consists of small and medium-sized mammals and birds. Around ¾ of patients with Lyme disease report complaints and present disease symptoms within in the head and neck. The symptoms are diverse and may occur at all stages of the disease. These include headaches, neck pain and stiffness, sore throat, dizziness, cervical lymphadenopathy, otalgia, tinnitus, sudden hearing loss, and facial muscle paresis. Despite numerous papers being published on neurological manifestations of Lyme disease, the issues regarding the location of damage within the course of the auditory pathway and the balance system remain unanswered. In some cases hearing disorders may be due to central damage while others may be due to peripheral damage. \u0000Objective: The article provides an overview of reports on the clinical course and manifestation of Lyme borreliosis.\u0000\u0000
